I'm having one of the worst pop problems I have ever had. I'm getting pop ups on my desk top screen when I dont even have a browser open or surfing the web. The are usualy pop ups to try and get me to download a program that "eliminates pop ups and spy ware" I have already tried runnig ad-aware , clearing my temp files and cookies and nothing works. If I leave my computer for any amount of time (and am still connected to DSL) I'll come back and have like 5-10 pops on the desk top screen.
Anyone else have this happen to them or have any good ways to combate these DAMN F'ING Pop ups?
Thanks
Jets

Are these the pop ups that come via Windows Messenger? If so, they'll need disabled though the control panel (administrative services).

Browse the list until you see "Messenger", right click & select 'Stop'. Double-click for Properties and select 'Disable' in the 'Startup Type' drop down.

"IM HAVING A POP UP PROBLEM"
I was waiting to see how long this topic would take to devolve into a discussion about erectile dysfuntion and Viagra. So far I've been disappointed. I thought FOFC could do better than this. ;)

Thank you! This has been driving me nuts, and the only advice I would get is "get a pop-up killer," etc. Nothing gets rid of it. My firewall prevents them, but if I have to drop the firewall because of a program problem, they would pop-up.

Or you could just use Mozilla as your browser.
It kills pop-ups automatically.

Heh, I didn't even read the responses and saw that someone predicted the Viagra quote.
I was also thinking "Stop looking at you bosses hooch," but I thought that'd be out of line.
What if his boss is gay?

It doesn't have anything to do with the browser. It is not a browser pop-up as far as I can tell.

The Google toolbar has a built in popup blocker that works great.
