With the money coming from the sale of my recent uber youth pull (550k of it) I was not gonna sit there and let the money rot, I had to spend it, just had to. :) One of the holes I felt I could plug for my team was on defense. While I regularly post solid/excellent/excellent defense ratings, these ratings are with only one solid and 2 passable defenders. I'm thinking that maybe another solid defender (or two) could help boost these up a bit. So I went shopping... and found this guy...

Reimund Brigg (16971124)
20 years, weak form, healthy
A nasty fellow who is fiery and dishonest.
Has disastrous experience and inadequate leadership abilities.

Nationality: Deutschland
Assessed value: 598 000 C$ (that is 299 000 US$)
Wage: 4 368 C$/week including 20% Bonus
Owner: Pintendre Pittbulls
Warnings: 0

Stamina: passable Goaltending: disastrous
Playmaking: passable Passing: solid
Winger: wretched Defending: solid
Scoring: weak Set Pieces: disastrous

I know he is already 20 (21 in a few weeks) but I liked his double solid in both defense and passing. My goal for him, once he's increased his form a little, is to play him on defense on Sundays and play him at inner mid on Wednesday, thus giving him playmaking training for the week. With the upcoming use of the new tactics, his passing could even be used on Sundays, and with some more playmaking, he'd be perfect as an offensive central defender in a counter attack tactic...

The price: 306k. Do you think I overpaid. Maybe a little, but I like him. His weak form may be a concern, but he was playing on a brand new team that had played only two games so far. He played in the two games and while he was played as a winger (newbie mistake?) he increased his star total from 1 star to 1.5 star between his first and second game (both played as a winger, with wretched winger skill), leading me to believe his form is on the rise...

Anybody think he may be a high passable in playmaking? With the kind of skills he got there, it's quite difficult to evaluate, as there's just way too many different variables involved in the equation here. He will play at inner mid tonight, my best hope would be to see him pop to solid playmaking this week. A guy can dream :)

His nastiness did cost me a little hit in the Team Spirit department, but I'm fairly well set for the rest of the season and will PIC in two weeks, plus the season is almost over...

Your impressions on this fellow... Good, bad, who cares :)

definately a great offensive center defender.
personally i like defenders that are around fiery and dishonest. not sure, but I think they cause more injuries. nothing like injuring another teams striker :) especially when you might be in the race for the scoring title.
i am not sure if the price is good or not, i am not up on the going rates of players with those skills.

Don't you have God on your team?\

Looks like a good grab...tho people keep telling me I'm a transfer addict...I've not made a transfer in 1 week...sheesh...

Even if he isn't a high passable in PM, he's still a solid player...though that salary frightens me.

I indeed have God on my team, and if high salaries frighten you, you probably should not look at his fact sheet :)

The guy looks like a stud to me, but I'm horrible at evaluating player's values. :)

Man, he'd be the uber-middie if you train him up...too bad he's going to be 21 in about two weeks.

Nice pickup! Woohoo! Even 20-turning 21, I'd imagine you should still be able to get at least another 3 levels within the next 2 years. That'd still make him a very good normal inner midfielder or an awesome offensive centreback. Good show! :)

When he finally turns to an excellent+ PM, you will be able to sell him for a bag of peanuts. Really expensive peanuts.

I had some good success with the 'double play' of a player. You play them out of position on Sunday and then in position on Wednesday to get the training. What it really does for the player is it boosts his experience faster than normal. Good pickup. Make him a star!

The fiery temperment makes him more prone to stud first tackles or headbutts. One of my fiery defenders has been suspended twice in less than 2 seasons thanks to accumulated yellows, so that would be my only word of caution. Other than that, it seems to be a good pick up.

The good thing about God is that his salary will go way down next year.

"Sorry, God, you're just not earning your pay so we need you to take a paycut" (sounds like something Lumbergh would say)

daed, you know me. I have already simulated his development over the next two seasons, and if he is only half way between passable and solid playmaking, he could be a formidable playmaker before the end of his second season with the team, or before he turns 23. :)

That was exactly my thinking. I didn't really like the fact that at 20 he's only got disastrous experience, but then I'll be giving him training AND playing him on defense on sundays, so...

Since he becomes the third solid defender on my team, the less experienced one (other two have inadequate and passable experience) and I will still keep at least one passable defender with high experience on the team, it won't bother me as much if he misses a league match here and there, at least not for now...

Good one! You are right though. I never thought about this, but God's salary has nowhere to go but down. Good news!

Finally, Brigg played his first game as a Pittbull tonight. He played as an offensive midfielder and, despite only being in weak form, he pulled 2 stars. Should definitely be 2.5 or with some luck 3 stars in passable form... I'm happy.

That sale of that 17yo solid winger/solid defender netted me roughly 550k after the agent fees and I got Brigg for 306k and this fellow solid defender for 184k out of the deal, leaving me 60k clear in my pocket... Here's the other player...

Quentin Doaré (7112623)
29 years, passable form, healthy
A pleasant guy who is temperamental and dishonest.
Has passable experience and passable leadership abilities.

Nationality: België

This one I think I overpaid, but I had the money and he'll fit right in. Just as with Brigg, I liked his fairly good passing skill, which may come in handy if I ever try to use the couter attack tactic... Also, with his passable experience AND passable leadership, he may be good to play a full season with the team, maybe pop to solid experience and take over as the coach of the team in a season or so...

All in all, this was a fun week. I wish you all out there to have at least one great youth pull like I had last Saturday. Now I'm ready to start pulling popcorn vendors for a few more weeks :)

REI! REI! REI!!!

:D

As luck would have it, my instincts were right and Reimund was very, very close to solid playmaking. He popped in this week's training update, after playing only one week at inner mid, giving the Pittbulls their first ever triple solid player, WOOT!!!! With that new development, he could conceivably pop to excellent playmaking by week 8 or 9 of next season (season 21) and to formidable by week 7 or 8 of season 22, when he will be 22...

Even though his form didn't change from weak (bummer), his value still increased from 299k to 344k, an increase of 45k, leading me to believe he is now in high weak form. I would have wanted him to improve his form, if only to play him on Sunday at defense. At weak, I have two other players that are still starters ahead of him, on passable defender in excellent form (only wretched experience though) and the other a passable defender in passable form with inadequate experience AND excellent set pieces.
