2003-10-21 New countries next season
Season end is close at hand, and it is time to announce that 6 new countries will join the Hattrick family next season. South America has been growing on a broad scale recently and three of the new leagues are from that continent: Paraguay, Ecuador and Bolivia. Although African growth has been negligable so far, we think it is time to add two countries there: Huge nation Nigeria and Morocco (Al Maghrib). And finally... much requested... it's... Faroe islands. And there was much rejoicing...

I had never heard of the Faroe Islands before so I figured I'd pass along my findings. Most stuff found at Yahoo Reference (http://education.yahoo.com/reference/factbook/fo/index.html) .

Background: The population of the Faroe Islands is largely descended from Viking settlers who arrived in the 9th century. The islands have been connected politically to Denmark since the 14th century. A high degree of self-government was attained in 1948.

Location: Northern Europe, island group between the Norwegian Sea and the north Atlantic Ocean, about one-half of the way from Iceland to Norway

Population: 45,296 (July 2000 est.)
But if it's anything like Sverige, half the population plays hattrick. Not much to do with all the snow, I guess

Dependency Status: part of the Kingdom of Denmark; self-governing overseas administrative division of Denmark since 1948

Chief of State: Queen MARGRETHE II of Denmark (since 14 January 1972), represented by High Commissioner Bente KLINTE, chief administrative officer (since NA)

Head of Government: Prime Minister Anfinn KALLSBERG (since 9 May 1998)

Currency: 1 Danish krone (DKr) = 100 oere

Military Branches: no organized native military forces; only a small Police Force and Coast Guard are maintained

I fought for Faroe to get their own country in HT.

Well not really "fought," but I lent my support.

oh, you mean Faroe islands, not Fargo!!! For a moment I was sure The Afoci had succeded in declaring Fargo, ND an island and had received his very own country... oh well, better luck next time...
