What exactly is a clown? I've seen the reference a couple of times in the last couple of days but am not familiar with how it applies to the game...

Technically, a "clown" is popular player with solid leadership that team could carry around to be a positive team leader. Since the team leader does not have to play, frequently teams will employ a useless player in this role - hence the term "clown". A positive team leader can help to slow down the speed that team spirit falls back to the "normal" level.
A team leader is anyone who has your highest leadership rating so a lot of people end up using the term "clown" for whoever that person is.

whoever has the highest leadership becomes the team "leader" (different then the team captain) and his agreeability (popular, controversial etc...) will directly affect the team spirit. if you have more then one solid leader (or whichever is the highest leadership level) then one of them will be the leader but which one it is, is difficult to determine. thats why post ppl avoid solid leaders unless they are also popular (or sympathetic).
as posted in another thread i have a team clown (solid leader who is popular) still on the transfer market. he sells shortly after the qualifier matches sunday
