I've already come close to screwing this up a couple of times. When hiring a coordinator, the game defaults to your offer being as a head coach. Anybody else think this should default to his "best position?"

Is it possible for Jim to add a search? It becomes too tedious sometimes to search for a coach or coordinator.

I did, yes. Almost signed my new defensive coordinator as head coach. Noticed that you can just "overwrite" the original offer, but it's still not as intuitive as I'd like.
I tried to hire a DC, but submitted him too as HC. Luckily the game told me I had a HC signed, so I could make the change, the difference is possiby that I was in the last stage of hirings.
The best would be if this choice was left empty as default, you should have to decide on your own what is his best role.

I'd also like the old "withdraw offer" button on there. Sometimes I pick a guy and go wow. Then a few moments later I'm going WOW...and then doh! since I already offered another guy for his position.

I ran into this when trying to hire a new OC. He was listed as an OC but, as you point out, the position defaulted to HC. Luckily, I already had a head coach and a box warned me of this.
It would be nice for it to default to what they are listed as. I would have been screwed if I didn't already have a HC.

I had this issue a ton the first couple times playing.
Another annoyance comes after you upgrade your stadium. The ticket prices can't be entered, but can only be bumped up $1 at a time (or $1000 for luxury boxes). After I upgraded I guess my ticket price expectation increased a lot. It gave me the "the league frowns upon practically giving tickets away" every single time I bumped the price for a long time. So instead o fjust highlighting my luxury box price and changing the $100k to $150k, I had to click the up arrow 50 times and close the above popup window between each click.
Also I added club seats for the first time so I had 0 to start. To get them up to $200 requires 200 clicks!!

Wouldn't "best position" be somewhat subjective? I haven't tried hired a coach yet, and can understand how this can be an annoyance, but it seems like something you would soon get used to. And it seems to me that most of the available coaches don't have a designation to start with, so the program has to default to something.

I would have also thought there would be a difference between coaches. Like Off coordinators not having defensive ratings and vice-versa. In a situation like this with 3 coaches shouldn't the head guy be there for non-development purposes ie: motovation, injurys and the like, and the coordinators have the responsibility of developing the players and maybe calling plays?

I like the way the coaches are done for the most part. I'm not real sure you could default to a coordinator position/head coach option the way the coaches are done. I like the idea that a coordinator can become a head coach and a former head coach can go back to being a coordinator.
The problem I had was with salary. The first time I heard a DC, I misunderstood the salary setting and offered him what he was asking for. I later realized that the salary he was asking for was head coach money, so I now have a DC who is better paid than my head coach. :)

I almost did that too. One other thing I think would vastly improve the hiring process would be if yould do a side-by-side comparrison of coaches.

Well, most coaches are known for one or the other. How many coaches have reputations for both their Offensive and Defensive prowess? that's what the coordinators are for. You might hire a coordinator as a HC if he's a great motovator and calls an excellent game.
