I'm listing some things in FOF2004 that you can modify.

Of course, you can use nfl players by downloading the real player file and opting to use an alternative player file on the new game options screen. Get it here: http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16581

Graphical mods

* Resolution. If you have a high resolution monitor, try lowering the resolution to 1024x768 while you play. It is much easier on the eyes and makes the game look better too. Then change it back when you finish.

* Team Logos. You can find replacement team logos by MizzouRah here: http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16320]. Just copy them into the pictures directory of your FOF2004 game directory. Don't forget to download the nfl logo for free agents. It's attached to the fourth post in that link. Here is another set of logos by Mckerney: http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=282229. Here's another set by shorty http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16927

* Color. You can change the game's color scheme under FOF2004's global options.

* Backgrounds and in-game images. You can use a very simple program called Resource Hacker to make other modifications to FOF2004. You can get it here: http://www.explodinghouse.com/FOF/ResHack.zip

Many banckgrounds and other images can be found here: http://www.explodinghouse.com/FOF/GUfof2004.htm . Here are some backgrounds by Shorty: http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16952. If you want to create your own background, it must be a bmp file with the dimensions 750x524 (if you come across older backgrounds that don't seem to fit right, try resizing them to 750x524). If you create anything and would like to share, send me a PM and I'll include it here.

* Quick directions for resource hacker *
Open resource hacker. Use the resource hacker file menu to open your frfoot2004.exe game file. It will automatically back up your original game file. Go to the view menu and select expand tree. Scroll to the image you want to change and go to the action menu and select replace bitmap. Select "open file with new bitmap" in the dialog box and and direct it to the replacement image. Click "replace" in the lower righ corner. Go to the file menu to save everything. When you open FOF2004, you will see the modifications. If this sounds complicated, don't worry. You will see it is extremely simple.

*** important note ***
Before you replace an image, click on the original image and go to the action menu and select save bitmap. That way if you want to go back to the original image you will have it.

Some things you can change:

284-285 - you can change the game background to a customized one.

219-222 - you can change the four default scoreboards (I just replace them all with the excellent one by wheelssb);

151 - you can change the positional tags to ones that have different colors for different positions, making it easier to view rosters, etc;

224 - you can change the scoreboard random color text to solid white text;

147 - you can replace the solecismic logo with an nfl or other logo of your choice;

I'll add to this when I remember things or learn of new mods.

p.s. the chances of screwing something up are pretty low. If you have a problem, go back to the original game file that was backed up by Resource Hacker. Nevertheless, be aware that game modifications are not supported by Solecismic, so you can't run to Jim for help.

Don't worry, there are no CPUs or programming involved. Resource Hacker a simple editor -- it doesn't require programming skills or you don't have to be a hacker to use it. You are just using it to tell FOF to look for an image in one place rather than another. All of replacements are linked to above.
