View Full Version : Completely random player file (*.fdt file) - Creation script to come

I have created a vbscript that will create a csv file containing entirely fictious players that can be imported into fof2k4 with Jim's player file generation tool. There are still a few things left to do with the script, but I thought I'd share a sample fiel you can use to start a fictious league.

This file is intended to be used only for preference or full drafts. if you don't start with a draft every player will have a 1 year, minsal and teams will probably not be even. Also please note that height and weight is one thing not handled yet in my script, so everyone will be 6' tall and weight 220 lbs (this should not affect gameplay). Also note, that colleges and hometowns are completely random so expect to see a lot of stars coming from very small colleges.

Please, if you get a chance start a career with this file and post any suggestions or comments you may have. When I finish I will post the script itself so that you can create your own player files.

Sample file (http://pubweb.acns.nwu.edu/~sws057/playerfile1.zip)

Instructions:

1. Unzip the file to some location.
2. Start a new career in FOF2k4 and elect to use an alternate player file and either a preference draft or full draft (I also reccomend using full X-factor).
3. When prompted give it the file you unzipped in step 1.
4. Come back here and comment after you've tried it. :)

Thanks.

Thanks for doing this.

everyone will be 6' tall and weight 220 lbs (this should not affect gameplay).

Some would disagree?

Thanks D.

From first glance it looks great. I'll play around with it tonight to be sure.

Great work.

I do plan to eventually set the height and weight.. just didn't have the right data to model it after and was more worried about the "important" stuff.

This sounds wonderful, any ETA for it to be completed?

What I need to finish it is some data to get the height/weight stuff right. If anyone has (or knows where to get it) a list of NFL players along with their position and height and weight that should be enough.

I think i found what I need at SI.com by listing players by position...

Daimyo:

Excellent! Holla back when you're ready for me to link to it from the main thread.

I've posted a new sample file (http://pubweb.acns.nwu.edu/~sws057/playerfile1.zip) that includes height and weight.

To do list:
Redo age/experience distribution to better reflect real NFL
Figure out how to realistically assign colleges
Make it so good, older players have a shot at the HoF
Set games played for players based on age/position (related to X-factor randomization only i think)

DOLA, does anyone know of a list showing something like colleges and the number of players currently playing in the NFL for each?
