<b>FOF2k4 - Empty Cupboard Challenge</b>

This will be an FOF2k4 that will use the ‘Empty Cup Board’ Challenge. For those not familiar with the Empty Cup Boards, I will explain them. Basically, you start out releasing all your players and signing players from the free agent pool. You build your team through drafting and free agency, as your initial roster stinks. We will not have a lot of money because we will still have to be paying salaries from all the players we release. I will be using real players and real teams. The team I have chosen is the Chicago Bears. There is no particular reason, but I do like their skins.

Other dynasty threads around the board have gone over the new features of FOF2k4. For restiveness sake, I will not go over them. Check out Chief Rum’s thread for that information. The game will be played on the Wall Street level, the highest available. I will, for the most part, be taking on a ‘hands-off’ approach. I will let my head coach do his job and handle the game plan week to week. However, I will be making all roster decisions. I consider a GM role, with the coach little to no input on the roster. It should be a fun ride.

<b>Staff</b>

<u>Head Coach</u>

<b>Kenyon Robertson</b>
Age: 50
Salary: $1,730,000
Contract Years: 2
Motivation: Excellent
Discipline: Good
Offensive Playcalling: Good
Defensive Playcalling: Good
Injury Avoidance: Good

Kenyon is the first guy in charge of the likely impossible task. It is a good thing he is an excellent motivator, because we are going to need it. He is balanced in the play calling and is also a not bad at injury avoidance.

<u>Offensive Coordinator</u>

<b>Carlton Smith</b>
Age: 62
Salary: $1,170,000
Contract Years: 3
Quarterbacks: Average
Running backs: Excellent
Receivers: Good
Offensive Lineman: Average
Kickers/Punters: Average
Young Talent: Very good

Carlton is a pretty good Offensive Coordinator. He is good at developing young talent, a definite plus. He is also works well with Running Backs, meaning our emphasis could be on the running game in the early stages. He is a bit old, but we will take him.

<u>Defensive Coordinator</u>

<b>Edward Okonski</b>
Age: 58
Salary: $790,000
Contract Years: 5
Kickers/Punters: Average
Defensive Lineman: Average
Linebackers: Very Good
Secondary: Excellent
Young Talent: Good

Edward is a nice coordinator who is under contract for sometime. If he was younger, he would be an excellent candidate for a future head coach. He will most likely hang around for a little while at the very least.

<u>Lead Scout</u>

<b>Vernon Cook</b>
Age: 65
Salary: $160,000
Contract Years: 1
Quarterbacks: Good
Running Backs: Excellent
Receivers: Good
Offensive Lineman: Average
Kickers: Average
Defensive Lineman: Fair
Linebackers: Average
Secondary: Average
Young Talent: Average

Vernon is basically just an average scout. He is judging young talent is somewhat lacking and that is critical for us. Once again it looks like the running game will be the focus this year. We will replace Vernon after this year.

Well, at least in the preseason we have hung in there better than I thought we would. Gerald Vaughn has proved that at the very least he can be a decent starting QB. Antonio Champion also proved that he may be a legit running threat. We suffered no real serious injuries which I guess is positive. I feel a little better about the team going into the season and we may win one game.

<b>2003 Season</b>

Well, it all starts here. We are playing for draft picks. In case you have not been paying attention so far, we are lead this year by QB Gerald Vaughn and RB Antonio Champion. By they way, the only veterans we have on our roster is ILB Don Davis (8 years experience) and FS Chris Atkins (5 years experience). Everyone else has just one year experience. It is going to be a long, long ride. Anyways, enough of my personal complaining and on to the season.

<b>Week 1</b> - We travel to San Francisco to face the heavily favored 49ers (by 15 points). After Ernie Covington connected on a 28 yard FG to give us a 3-0 lead the 49ers took charge. We added a score in the 4th quarter but lost 31-10. Champion carried the ball 20 times for 48 yards. Vaughn was 19 of 29 for 189 yards and a TD. He was sacked five times. Flanker Joseph David was a highlight, catching 7 passes for 91 yards. On the defense side, Clarence Moore had six tackles and an interception.

<b>Week 2</b> - We traveled again, this time to face the Minnesota Vikings. Our defense played well but we could not generate enough offense to win and dropped the game 17-3. Covington connected on a 21 yard FG for the only score. Champion carried the ball 24 times for 73 yards. Vaughn was 24 of 36 for 190 yards. David and Ramaswami had six catches each. Monroe continued to be the defensive starlet with 9 tackles.

<b>Week 4</b> - We hosted Green Bay in the 4th week of the season, after our bye week. They were favored by seven. We dropped a 23-6 decision. Covington connected on Field Goals of 33 and 42 yards. Champion carried 19 times for 76 yards. Vaughn was 14 of 20 for 93 yards. Back up Steve Foley came in and completed 8 of 12 passes for 71 yards.

<b>Week 5</b> - Before the game we picked up a free agent OLB Sedrick Marsh to fill a spot on the roster. He is a decent player and immediately becomes a starter. We hosted the 3-1 Raiders. They were favored by a touchdown and we were drilled 35-6. Covington connected on two FG of 18 and 49 yards. Champion carried the ball 14 times for only 23 yards. We used three different QB’s in the game: Vaughn was 11 of 16 for 175 yards. Foley was 8 of 9 for 80 yards. Finally, Martinez was three of three for 15 yards. We fumbled the ball three times.

<b>Week 6</b> - Next we traveled to face the 2-3 Saints. Despite their record, they are favored by 10 points. We lose the game 20-0. Our offense just can not score or even move the ball. Champion carried the ball nine times for 27 yards. Vaughn was the only offense, throwing the ball 35 times and completed 17 of those for 162 yards. Hockenhull and David had fives catches apiece.

<b>Week 7</b> - In week 7 we headed to the Pacific Northwest to face Seattle. They are favored by two touchdowns and they will beat us by worse than that. Well, I was wrong, the final score was only 23-10, Seattle. I bet people who said they would cover the spread are pissed. Our offense finally showed signs of life. We struck first as Dana Maxwell caught a 6 yard strike from Vaughn. Covington added a 19 yard field goal and we led 10-0. It was not meant to be, as Seattle responded with the 23. Champion carried the ball 17 times for 31 yards. Vaughn was 15 of 21 for 113 yards. Foley was 1 of 10 for 12 yards. Riley punted the ball 9 times for 412 yards!!

<b>Week 8</B> - Due to injuries we had to sing a couple of players. DT Rocky Bernard was brought in to help out the defensive line. QB Daryl Taylor from Purvis, MS was also signed due to a 2 week injury to Vaughn. Despite Taylor’s inexperience, he was start for us as we host the 4-2 Detroit Lions. Things started out good with a 58 yard FG from Covington and we led 3-0. We also had a 84 yard kickoff return for a TD by Mel Gerth. Covington added another field goal of 38 yards. However, in-between it was all Detroit as they won 37-13. Taylor was 11 of 29 for 111 yards and five picks (this was the first interception any QB had thrown all year). Foley was 5 of 10 for 74 yards. The leading rusher was Langer who carried the ball 12 times for 66 yards.

Looking good, GoldenEagle. I will be following along.

Curious, but can you give me a play-by-play for how to set up Print To Fiel so that it works from FOF 2004?

I see that you have that set up, but I have been unsuccessful in doing it. When I go under my printer's control pages, I find I can set up a print to file port, and I do get it to prompt me for a file name, which I give it. But when I try to open the file, no text program (Notepad, Wordpad, MS Word) does it (it shows ASCII characters in a jumble instead, like a non-text file being opened up by a text program).

Thanks for the help.

Chief - Your ignored :)

In case for some odd reason you skipped down this post, I will enlighten you as to what has gone on. It will also serve as a reminder for those who have been reading. We are currently at 0-7 but our offense is starting to show signs of life. QB Gerald Vaughn is expected to be back for the next game after missing the last game due to a strained foot injury. Vaughn has completed 100 of 157 passes this season for 922 yards. He has only thrown for two touchdowns but has yet to throw an interception. We have yet to establish a running game as Champion has only rushed for 303 yards. The misery is expected to continue…

<b>Week 9</b> - The 2-5 Chargers came to town and were favored by three points. I was expecting at least somewhat of a challenge from our troops. We did. After they took a 7-0 lead, Langer ripped off a 49 TD Run to tie things up at 7. After teams exchange field goals, things were tied at 10 (Covington kicked a 23 yard FG). After the Chargers added another two field goals and a touch down, they led 22-10. We added a touchdown with a pass to Larry Lin from Vaughn for 5 yards and the extra point to make it 22-17. We got the ball back with 3 minutes to go, but fumbled at midfield and lost. Champion carried the ball 19 times for 89 yards and Langer 2 times for 55 yards. Vaughn was 20 of 33 for 192 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT.

<b>Week 10</b> - We traveled to face the Lions in Week 10. If you will, remember the Lions pounded us 37-13 at home in week 8 of this season. Now that we play at Detroit we expected to be beat worse. We lost the game 28-3. Eddie Covington connected on a 32 yard FG. Champion carried the ball 12 times for 50 yards. Vaughn was 13 of 29 for 96 yards and a pick. The positive news is we only had one turnover, something we have struggled with all season.

<b>Week 11</b> - The Rams came to town as a 10 point favorite despite their 3-6 record. The challenge will be keeping their high octane offense in check. Vaughn re-injured his foot and could be out for three weeks. Steve Foley will start in his place. We started taking a 3-0 lead when Covington connecting on a 41 yard field goal. Unfortunately, we lost 27-13. Champion scored off a 3 yard TD run. Covington kicked another 46 yard FG. Champion carried the ball 23 times for 96 yards, coming close to his first 100 yard game. Foley scrambled/rushed 9 times for 65 yards. He was 23 of 42 in the air for 193 yards and an INT.

<b>Week 12</b> - Next we travel to the mountains to face the 3-6-1 Broncos. They are favored by nine points but I suspect they will beat us by much more because, well, we do not score points on the road. We dropped to 0-11 with a 31-10 loss. But hey, at least we scored. Covington connected on a 39 yard FG. Foley threw for the lone TD pass. Champion carried the ball 19 times for 111 yards. I think we will bring him back next season since he has shown improvement each game. Foley was 22 of 42 for 205 yards and a TD but also threw three picks.

<b>Week 13</b>- We hosted the marginal Cardinals this week. They have posted a 6-4-1 record. They are favored by nine points. After Tim Gordon jumped a fumble and took it 16 yards for the score, we led 7-0. Arizona scored 21 straight points, but we struck right back when Foley threw a 10 yard TD pass. Arizona put it away with two minutes left in the 4th quarter and won 28-14. Champion carried 24 times for 71 yards. Foley was 19 of 37 through the air with 4 INTs.

<b>Week 14</b> - We traveled to face the 6-6 Packers a the famed Lambeu Field. They drilled us earlier in the season 23-6. Good news is we have Gerald Vaughn back. They are favored by 16 points. They drilled us 34-0. Champion carried the ball 17 times for a measly 40 yards. Vaughn was 18 of 29 for 152 yards and threw 2 picks. Not much to say about the defensive effort.

<b>Week 15</b> - In another divisional match-up we host the Vikings. They are 6-7 and beat us earlier 17-3. If we can get some offense going we may have a shot. They are just favored by eight. They drilled us 43-10. Our defense is getting worse each game. The scores came from Champion and Covington had a 42 yard field goal. Champion carried 19 times for 59 yards. Vaughn was 8 of 16 for 53 yards. Foley came in and was 5 of 9 for 56 yards.

<b>Week 16</b> - The 7-7 Redskins came to town and we expected a tough game, as usual. We played them a lot closer than one would imagine and our offense actually moved somewhat. The final score was 31-21, Washington of course. FB Tatum caught a pass for the first score of the game. Washington scored twice to make it 14-7. We came storming right back with Lin catching a TD pass from Vaughn to tie it at 14. We took the lead 21-17 as Vaughn threw his third TD pass of the game. Our defense could not hold though. Vaughn was 18 of 32 for 205 yards and the three touchdown passes. Champion carried 19 times for 82 yards.
Lin had 8 catches for 72 yards.

<b>Week 17</b> - The last chance for a win on the season. It is the end of the first year. Next year we may win a game or two. We traveled to KC to face the 10-5 Chiefs. They are favored by 13 and as you know we do not have a chance. I think we are ready to just get the season over with. Vaughn broke his fibula and is out for the rest of the year. We decide to start Michael Martinez at QB. I figure why not? We get beat 31-13. Covington had two field goals. Champion carried the ball 18 times for 49 yards. Martinez was 16 of 22 for 130 yards and a TD and an INT.

The first season ends 0-16.…

<b>Amateur Draft</b>

Looking at the draft board, there really was not anything that struck out to me as first pick material. So I sent the first pick to Denver in exchange for the fourth overall pick and a second round draft choice (4th). The kid that I thought I would get with the fourth pick, a talented CB was taken first. At the 4th pick, I really didn’t like anything either so I sent that pick To Jacksonville in exchange for the first round (9th overall) and their second round pick. Finally with the ninth pick, I took the guy who was second on my board in C Randy Matson. Anyways the rest of the picks…

Hey we were in some ball games. This team is much improved over last year’s version. I mean we are not going to make the playoffs or anything but we may win a couple of games. Trung Canidate is a hoss. He may rush for 1500+ yards this season. Bulger needs to cut down on his picks but has completed some good passes. The defense looks improved. Bears for a win in 2004!

<b>Week 1</b>

The first game of the season we face the Minnesota Vikings. We travel to Minnesota to face them. They are favored by eleven but I suspect we will put up more of a challenge than what people think. Deep threat Peter Warrick is out for the injury. That is the only serious injury we have.

Minnesota is led UCF product Dante Culpepper. Dante is a big physical QB who can scramble. RB Moe Williams is a threat to run all over us if we are not careful. Randy Moss and Bobby Shaw lead a good receiver tandem. I would rate their offensive line unit as above average. On defense we can attack them on the left side as they are weak on that side. They are average on the right side and strong up the middle. They run a 3-4 but I do not know why. They have good corners in Shawn Springs and Charles Woodson. The SS, Keion Carpenter is good but we can attack the FS.

With roughly a minute in the first quarter Blake Hout adds 37 yard FG to take a 3-0 lead. Minnesota strikes right back in the early parts of the 2nd quarter to tie the game up at 3. However, the Bears would come storming out after halftime, as Jason Webster picked off a pass and took back 75 yards for the touchdown. Later in that same third quarter Blake Hout nailed a 51 yard FG for the 13-3 lead. Minnesota would cut into the lead with a FG to make it 13-6. Blake Hout and the Bears would not be denied as he tacked on a 33 yard FG to clinch. BEARS WIN!!! Oh my!

The Game MVP was DE Aaron Schobel. He has 7 tackles, 2 assists, and 2.5 sacks. Canidate only carried the ball 9 times for 19 yards. Wilkerson had 8 carries for 21 yards. Bulger was 16 of 25 in the air for 109 yards and an INT. Johnson caught 5 passes for 32 yards and Brothers had 4 catches for 30 yards. Rookie Rayburn caught 3 balls for 28 yards.

<b>Week 2</b>

After our stunning victory of the Vikings, we are set to travel south to Texas to face Houston. We expect similar results from last week and this is certainly a game on my schedule that I have pinpointed as a possible win. In the first week, the Texans lost to the Colts 20-16. David Carr leads the team and is a fastly developing into one the finer Quarterbacks in the league. Tony Hollings leads the running game and gives them a viable option in the backfield. The receiver core, led by Andre Johnson, is very talented. Veteran Keenan McCradell was added to the mix in the off season. The offensive line could be an area we could match up with them against and I hope our coach takes advantage of it.

On the defensive of the ball they are around average, having strengths and weaknesses like everyone else. Gary Walker is an excellent defensive end and will probably create havoc all day long. Ray Lee Johnson is set as the other defensive end and we need to run his side. Up the middle they are weaker and we also need to attack here. Jamie Sharper leads the talented linebacker corps that includes 2nd year man Antwan Peek and veteran Steve Foley. The secondary will gives us nothing and is one of the more talented groups in the league. Aaron Glenn and Marcus Coleman are two top notch corners. Eric Brown and Matt Stevens can shut down the running attack from the safety position if they so choose.

Houston struck first in the first quarter with eight minutes to play when David Carr hooked up with McCradell on a 37 yard TD strike. The ensuing extra point gave the Texans the 7-0 lead. Carr was lethal again with roughly 3 minutes to play in the opening quarter, hitting Johnson in stride for the 11 yard TD. Houston went up 21-0 after Carr found TE Billy Miller in the end zone in the midpoint of the third quarter. After we forced a turnover, Houston caught a break as we fumbled and TE Billy Miller picked up and took it 44 yards to the end zone to secure the win, 28-0.

Our offense was never able to get going as Bulger threw 3 picks. He did connect on 12 of 27 for 122 yards. The offensive line only gave up three sacks, perhaps showing they are an improving unit. Wilkerson carried the ball 12 times for 45 yards and Candiate added 8 carries for 39 yards. Last years star back,
Champion got three carries for 11 yards.

David Carr was named the player of the game as he torched our secondary for 259 yards In a 24 for 30 effort.

<b>Week 3</b>

The Saints come to town boasting a 1-1 record with a solid 14-3 victory over Carolina. The loss to Oakland last week by a score of 27-10. While they are probably not a Super Bowl contender, they will still provide our young and inexperienced team with a formidable task if we want the win.

Due to an injury to starting QB Aaron Brooks, the Saints will be quarterbacked by second year man Jimmy Compton. It is Compton’s ninth career start and he has a very high interception to TD rate. The running game is solid led by former Heisman trophy candidate Deuce McAllister. Ernie Crowell, the TE, will provide a good short option in the passing game. Joe Horn and Dante Stallworth will provide our cornerbacks with a serious task in coverage. They are the best 1-2 package we have faced all year. The offensive line is a good group and they will be the best we have seen all year as well.

DE Darren Howard is a stud and the other DE Brandon Mitchell is very talented as well. NT Jonathan Sullivan will do a decent job plugging the middle. The middle linebackers are weak and again, the coach should run the ball up the middle. The outside linebackers of Rogers and Wong are not the strong point of the team either. Fernando Bryant is a good corner but we can attack Jason Craft on the other side. Tebucky Jones and Doug Evans are good safeties.

In the first quarter the Saints took it right to us, scoring on the first possession with a 4 yard Amos Zereoue run. They tacked on the extra point for the 7-0 lead. After we missed a Filed Goal, the Saints decided to add six more points from the leg of Mark Atkins, as he connected from 22 and 30 yards out. We drove let in the third quarter and Blake Hout kicked a 22 yard field goal to cut the deficit to 13-3. However, the Saints would get another FG and win 16-3.

Jimmy Compton won player of the game honors as he was 24 of 30 for 189 yards. We managed to sack him seven times though. Bulger was 16 of 30 for 188 yards and 2 picks. Peter Warrick, activated before the game, caught nine passes for 98 yards. In the rushing game, Canidate carried 12 times for 29 yards and Wilkerson carried 5 times for 22 yards.

<b>Week 5</b>

We are fresh off a bye week which allowed us to heal up some injuries that we had. Peter Warick is now at or pretty close to full strength. This should help out the passing attack. This week, the high-flying and 3-1 Washington Redskins will be our gracias hosts. They are favored by 16 points and word is from Vegas they should meet that spread. Last week they beat the Packers 9-6.

Washington will spread the ball out and rely primarily on the young arm of Quarterback Patrick Ramsey. Ramsey hails from Tulane and is one of the better players on the team. L. Coles and Taylor Jacobs highlight the receiver crops which is a very dangerous group of players. The offensive line is led by tackles Chris Samuels and Jon Jansen. They are pretty strong unit overall. Three year man Ladell Betts is the starting tailback.

On the defensive side of the ball they will come after us Renaldo Wynn on the left side. He is an average defensive end. The other side has Frank Benton, a little bit weaker of a player. Bryan Robinson and Cletidus Hunt will plug the middle but neither will do a great job at it. LaVar Arrington and Warrick Holdman will lead the outside linebackers and are very talented. Jeremiah Trotter is also a good middle linebacker. Fred Smoot will shut down the right side passing game but we can attack the left side where Daylon McCutheon patrols. David Terrell and Andre Lott are the two safeties.

We struck first when Blake Hout connected on a 39 yard Field Goal early in the first quarter. With about 4 minute to go in the first quarter, Patrick Ramsey found Ladell Betts for a four yard TD pass. Washington the kicked two straight field goals to make the game 13-3. However, right before halftime, Trung Candiate scored on a two yard run and went into the break trailing 13-10. Close to the midpoint of the third quarter, Washington scored a Betts run to make the game 20-10. However Marc Bulger flicked a 3 yard TD pass to Chad Johnson to make it 20-16. Blake Hout missed the extra point. Hout tacked on another field goal from 40 yards out and the score was 20-19 with 8 minutes to play. We turned the ball on over on downs and with eight seconds left, Washington kicked a FG to make it 23-19.

Candiate carried the ball 12 times for 27 yards and Wilkerson also carried 12 times for 44 yards. Bulger was 17 of 31 for 254 yards and a TD. Our rookie TE Albo had six catches for 110 yards and may prove to be a dangerous threat in the future. Ramsey was named player of the game after going 14 of 25 for 174 yards and a TD.

<b>Week 6</b>

This week we host the 2-3 Cowboys and have a legit shot at beating this bunch. Besides ours, the Cowboys probably have the worst offense in the league on paper. Our go-to-guy on offense, Chad Johnson is out for four weeks with a shoulder injury. Peter Warrick is still banged up so I suspect to see our passing game suffer significantly.

Kelly Holcomb has taken over the starting QB for the Cowboys and will certainly do a good job back there. He has average receivers in Joey Galloway and James Thrasher. Second year man Ray Redster is the starting TB for the Cowboys, and should not get much on us. The left side of the offensive line is very good, along with the C Al Johnson. The right side of the line, however, is weak.

The defensive line is highlighted by the third overall pick in the 2003 draft, in rookie Austin Gilmore. He is not developed, but not that good of a player yet either. La’Rai Glover is a scary DT and we will have to keep it away from him. Kenny Mixon is on the right side and is not very good. The four linebackers include Dexter Coakley, Dat Nyguen, Lance Albriktsen, and Brady James. It is about an average core. Terrance Newman is a good corner on the left side and Derek Ross is also good on the right side. Woodson and Roy Williams are both very good safeties in all phases of the game. It is a good defensive unit.

The game starts out with Bulger orchestrating a drive that we lead to a 1 yard TD pass to rookie TE Eugene Albo. Hout added the extra point to make it 7-0 early in the first quarter. There was no scoring for the remainder of the quarter. With eleven minutes to go in the second stanza, Trung Candiate scored off a 7 yard TD run and the extra point was good to make it 14-0. Then, with 7 minutes left to go in the second quarter cornerback Geoff Turner ripped off a 39 yard INT return for six more. We tacked on the extra point to make it 21-zip. With 4 minutes to go before halftime, Kendrick Brothers caught a 7 yard pass for Bulger for another score to make it 28-0 going into halftime. In the last moments of the third quarter, Brother caught another pass from Bulger to make it 35-0 Bears. The Cowboys would prevent us from getting the shutout when back-up QB Carlos Carlson threw a 3 yard TD pass.

Trun Candiate had his number called 13 times for 66 yards. Rookie Wilkerson carried 10 times for 23 yards, as our coach has resorted to a running back by committee approach. Bulger garnered Game MVP awards as he completed 21 of 31 passes for 277 yards and 3 touchdowns. Backup Alscott also saw action in the blowout, completing 4 of 6 passes for 22 yards. Rayburn caught 8 passes for 59 yards. Brothers, starting for the injured Johnson, caught six passes for 76 yards. Warrick caught 4 passes for 57 yards. The defensive side was a joint effort with three players recording five tackles. Van Gray added a pick.

<b>Week 7</b>

We stand 2-3 in our second campaign and have been a pleasant surprise so far. Bulger, while not perfect, has been steady hand at QB. He also seems to have his better days ahead of him. While he has thrown six picks, he does have four touchdowns. The running game has not been productive as I would have hoped for and two backs, Trung Candiate and rookie Lee Wilkerson, have split time in the backfield. Kendrick Brothers and rookie Karl Rayburn have emerged as the tow leading receivers. Rookie Eugene Albo has become a threat from the TE spot. Defensively, LB Greg Biekert and S Van Gray are the two players most impressive. This game will have to be done without are two most talented receivers on paper in Chad Johnson and Peter Warrick. Before the game we signed free agent <b>Marcus Robinson</b> to play with the team for the rest of the year. Last year, Robinson played for the Ravens and caught 43 passes for 569 yards. He is not a great talent but could bolster the passing game a bit.

This week we travel to face Detroit. The Lions are 3-3 with wins over Jacksonville, Dallas, and New York. The only beat Dallas 9-7 and we trashed them last week 35-7. The Lions QB is Joey Harrington who has emerged as on of the better at his position in the league. He has already tossed for close to 2,000 yards this season. Duce Staley is the tail back and Cory Schlesinger the FB and they from a talented pair. Charlie Rogers and TE Michael Ricks will be Harrington’s main two targets. The OL is also a talented unit and the center is former Bear Olin Kruetiz.

On defense, the front three is not to strong and is led by a talent in DE Robert Porcher. The linebackers have one good player in Boss Bailey but after that are pretty weak and we can take advantage of that. Ray Buchannon and Tyrone Poole are two average corners. Rodney Harrison and Brian Walker are two safeties who are pretty talented.

The first play from scrimmage, Bulger dropped back and found newly signed Robinson for 11 yards. The next play Bulger hit Robinson again for 20 yards and the buzz surrounding the TV set is that I am a genius for signing this guy. The drive had to end though with us taking a 3-0 early lead when Blake Hout connected on a 45 yard field goal. Detroit would respond with a field goal of their own with 36 seconds to go in the first quarter for a 3-3 tie. Blake Hout then added a 54 yard FG with 9:47 to go in the second quarter. With the clocking ticking and halftime approaching Hout kicked a 20 yard Field Goal for the 9-3 halftime lead. Trung Candiate then scored from two yards out and Bulger connected to Brothers for the two point conversion for the 17-3 lead. Detroit would add nothing more than a consolation TD with two minutes left to go in the game and we get the 17-10 victory.

Izell Resse was named the game MVP for his defensive efforts which included 7 tackles and two interceptions. Candiate carried 16 times for 78 yards and Wilkerson had his number called 10 times for 29 yards. Bulger was 21 of 34 for 210 yards and just one interception. Robinson caught the ball six times for 82 yards and Brother hs five catches for 34 yards.

<b>Week 8</b>

We face our toughest challenge of the season so far when we take the road again and play against the New York Football Giants. They are 5-1 so far this season with the only loss coming to the Lions. They have a power offense which focuses on the running games and the defense is stingy as well. Heading into the game, it looks like Chad Johnson will be healthy enough to play. We picked up no additional injuries last week.

The offense is captained by QB Kerry Collins who will try to beat us over the top. The receivers corps are talented led by Amani Toomer and D’Wayne Bates. Tiki Barber is the running back and has performed very well this season. He has carried for 781 yards in six games. The offensive line is very talented and has some power to drive our front four back if they want to. The good news is that dangerous TE Jeremy Shockey is out with an injury.

The defense will run out of the 4-3 on most plays. Michael Strahan is the best defensive end in the NFL and will inflict damage on us all day long. Kenny Mixon is the other defensive end and is also talented, although not nearly as good as Strahan. Keith Hamilton and Kelly Gregg will plug up the middle. If we can get past the line, the linebackers are equally as tough. Mike Barrow will be in the middle and he is very good. The cornerbacks in William Peterson and Will Allen are incredible players. Shawn Williams and Jerome woods are the safeties and are very good as well. Overall, a good defense with no apparent weaknesses.

New York started the game with about 10 minutes into the first quarter by striking on a 7 yard pass from Collins to Barber. That made the score 7-0. Toomer then got involved in the action by catching a 33 yard TD pass from Collins. In the second quarter, Collins tossed another pass for a 1 yard TD pass to Magnum. He, Collins, then threw a 9 yard pass to Barber to make it 28-0 in the mid point of the third quarter. Former Bear Eddie Covington kicked a 45 yard field goal to make it 31-0. Blake Hout kicked a 38 yard FG to get us on the scoreboard. Back-up Palmer threw a pass to Toomer and the Giants won 37-3.

Wilkerson carried the ball 11 times for 22 yards and Candiate carried 8 times for 41 yards. Bulger was 9 of 15 for 81 yards with no touchdowns but no picks either. Alcott saw some action going for 1 for 3 for 2 yards. Robison was the leading receiver catching 3 times for 45 yards. This was just an ugly loss.
