I was just wondering if there was ever a patch that made Sierra Sports FB Pro '99 even close to usable. What a disappointment that game was. So close to perfect. I was a complete addict to the series, as I am to FOF...

No...they chose to recall the game instead of tying to fix it.

Not by Sierra, though I believe some people who didn't return their games put patches together to make it a playable game.

..but they did not really make it a playable game. They tried valiantly.

Yeah, what a piece of crap '99 was. I was so pumped about the game, then I loaded it onto my pc. :(

I've still got it around here somewhere.
You wouldn't think it would be that difficult to take an fof style game, and graphically represent it. For Jim, yeah, 1 man show, impossible. Geez thuogh, that was a huge series.

'99 was SOOOO close. It was great until you actually tried to play a game. It killed the whole Sierra Sports department. I still play Baseball Pro '98 and you see on billboards in the outfields other games that were apparently in development like Boxing...

I remember like it was yesterday...
The .07 patch (forget if it was 2.07 or 1.07) made it playable from a simming standpoint. Note playable in that you could sim year after year without it crashing....everything workign the way it should was a different story. However, it was playable and possible to enjoy it (for simming only)
The two major problems with FOFPro 99 at the time when they recalled it was the arcade mode was complete broken and the play editor was only really half done. A lot of the logic assignments didn't work the way they were supposed to. Plus, the sim times per game were...a lot. Peopel think Puresim is slow... :)

Yeah I never returned it. I installed it the other day actually, and grabbed the last patches out there. It did sim, and I liked what they did with their sims. You could watch each play unfold in Xs and Os, and you could accellerate that to fast speed, but it was too slow. Like sabotai said, think Puresim times 10 to the slowness factor. I laugh now when I think back that the FBPro series used to be the reason I would upgrade my computer every year or so.

I've still got FBPro 99 in original box w/ CD & manual. What a waste..."let's dump football and baseball so we can concentrate on a "real" sport........BULLRIDING"

I felt that NFL Legends '98 was the biggest failure of all in sports sims.

FBPro was just the greatest FB game ever. Id still guess that I spent more time with that through the years than I have with FOF, and thats saying a lot. And there were so many awesome utilities out there for it. Anyone remember EA Gelat?
I made the most incredile historic leagues with that game, kind of the basis for what I did with the last version of FOF and am now trying to do with this version.
Anytime someone brings up FBPro, it causes me to sit and reminisce for awhile. Kinda sick, isnt it?

I remember my fisrt teams. I won 3 straight superbowls with the lions. Lost my starting quarterback to a career-ending injury in the nfc championship game, then his backup won it all for 2 more years. I switched to the jets and traded all my starters for lions backups. I proceded to beat the lions in the superbowl. What a great game for the time.<br>'97 was the best. I could never get over how 98 had the QB line up over the guard.
For those interested, I am in an active FB Pro 98 league and we have 2-3 teams owner less => go check http://afl.atfreeweb.com (I am the 49ers there)

What about EA gelet and his rosters.
..and I agree '97 was the best installment of the game.

I'm sure that one killed you considering your love of historic rosters, etc. That game was a major disappointment.

I still swear by the '95 edition. Everything was downhill from there...

Dola.
FB pro '95 was a blast. I still have it but don't play it anymore. It's been replaced in my "heart" by the FOF series.
However, I do understand very well obviously those who keep playing those "old" games years and years after... I do just the same with FOF2.

I too still have the FBPro99 and two other versions. What a strange bunch we are to keep them.. I can't even play them on my computer anymore. I definitely had the most fun with 95, but the rules changes made that one obsolete.
I guess Jim has lucked himself into a bunch of hardcore hobbyists now. Well he deserves it.

Sierra did that to me not once, but *twice*.
#1) FBPro99, of course. What an utter, utter disappointment.
#2) Red Baron 2. They finally did patch it and patch it and patch it, but even in it's final incarnation, it wasn't nearly as 'cool' as its predecessor.

There are still a bunch of people looking for FBPro '99 patches. I used to keep them on my site until a couple of years ago. I still see 10 to 15 times per week in my weblogs where people try to download them.

To go off-topic on an off-topic post, anyone else a GK fan out there? Sins of the Fathers kicked major ass! All-time favorite game.

Yeah, all those games were great. Sins of the Fathers was terrific. I still have fond memories of the giant swinging axe towards the end slicing me up seemingly hundreds of times. :)
