View Full Version : Any FBCB fans want to do a league?

Basically what the topic says, I don't know of any FBCB leagues running, althoguh I don't really hang out at the FB forums, and I know quite a few FOFCers have this game.
Hey Heavy.. any chance we can get the post 2004-2005 Conference movement as an option in a patch? :)

I think most people were waiting for the html output before starting a league. Now that it is available I think we'll start to see a few spring up.
As far as the new alignment, it could be possible once everything is sorted out for sure. The main complication is how the game would handle two version of the default league files. That would complicate things when editing the default settings.

I know this is an oldie, but anything ever come of this?
After spending the last 3 days binging on FBCB, I have an itch to try it out multi.
Well, I have an urge to try some text sim multi, and this seems to be the one I'd enjoy the most.
Anywho, if anyone is still interested, add my name to the list.

If it gets going, I'll be more then happy to join. I'll need to buy the game, but that's fine. So Long as I get UCLA
SirFozzie
11-28-2003, 11:19 PM
Looks like we have about 10... do we all want to be one conference, or spread about?
We could always do some East Coast-West Coast stuff (without the drive bys and the hypocritical calls for peace from the people who incited the damn thing, if you ask me), and put five in a conference in the East, and five in a west coast conference..
Alterra: the Big XII has two divisions, but it is one conference, I believe

I would be interested in taking Marshall. Taking them to the NCAA tourney for the 1st time would make me a very happy coach.

I guess it comes down to what would be more fun.
Do we want to have 10 guys in 10 different divisions or 10 guys in one division? That's a tough call that I can't make.

I actually like the idea of splitting us up best.
Having us all over the place would basically make it playing SP imo, but it might be bad if we're all in the same conference also.
I think the coast idea could work, or a variation of. That would give us a good split.
Either way, I'm game. I'm not picky on which team I have either, so I can go anywhere.
The_herd
11-28-2003, 11:44 PM
I like the East Coast/West Coast I idea. I think we should try to be in different conferences. It would be more interesting to see how the programs grow as opposed to stepping all over each year.
SirFozzie

Having 2-4 to a conference would allow rivalries-conference pride to flourish I think
SirFozzie
11-29-2003, 12:17 AM
Talking with Marmel, on this:
East/West seems to work: Both Marm and I want to be Big East teams (he's a 'Cuse fan and me a BC fan, as if you didn't know), so here's what we're thinking:
two conferences per "Coast", with 2-4 people in each conference..
total of 10-12 coaches to start
The_herd
11-29-2003, 12:21 AM
Sounds good here, I'm willing to jump in just about any conference except the SEC. If anyone wants to start out in the Mid-Majors I'm game for that.
Calis
11-29-2003, 12:35 AM
Sounds like a plan, does it have to be an actual coast though? :)
I'm a Big XII man through and through.
I can really do about any conference though, I do however have a dislike for anything on the West Coast, so I'd prefer it not be that.
If I could be my Jayhawks, even better.

The Big 12 doesn't split the standings in basketball like they do in football:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/confstandings?confID=8
The schedule is based on the split conference though like it is in real life.

SirFozzie,
Thanks! I will follow along and if it doesn't look like it will be too time consuming, I might ask to jump in during the second or third year if there is still room.
I have an irregular work schedule and lots of family demands now, so I've been avoiding things that have deadlines and stuff, but I actually gave this one some thought. With no trading involved, I think the time demands might be something I could handle, especially when our new baby starts to settle down (which will be soon, I hope).
Thanks again. I look forward to seeing how things go.

Hey Foz,
I just picked this game up, and would be interested in joining in. It looks like there really hasn't been a decision yet for how to structure the teams, but I'd vote for the dispersal theory, and only have 2 or 3 teams from each conference be player controlled.
My preferences for teams:

I agree. After looking at default prestige for teams in some conferences, here are some that look like everyone would start on the somewhat of the same page.
Missouri Valley Conference
Bradley - 56
Creighton - 75
Drake - 41
Evansville - 47
Illinois State - 54
Indiana State - 61
Northern Iowa - 52
Southern Illinois - 70
SW Missouri State - 56
Wichita State - 47
The Southern Conference is similar with exception of one team and overall the prestige is a lot lower.
Its just a suggestion. I would think it would make for a more competitive environment. Does not matter to me, either way I want to join.
Calis
11-30-2003, 03:58 PM
Yeah, I have no problem switching to a low prestige conference if that's what people want.
I especially like the MVC if I get Wichita State, those are my hometown boys. :)
Overall though, I'll play in any conference as any team, and I can go with us all in one conference or split up, both have their advantages.
The_herd
11-30-2003, 05:47 PM
I'd much rather see us go about 3 to conference. It would be better to get people playing teams they are interested in and care about. That would also give us more of a chance in meeting each of in the tourney.
I'm very flexible as to who I'll be. I'm willing to join someone in a low prestige conference, but I really would like to see us somewhat spread out to allow each person's program to grow a bit.
Chief Rum
11-30-2003, 05:51 PM
I agree with herd. I don't we're that far from having at least three in every major conference. We already have two in the Pac-10, two in the ACC (coutning Easy Mac), and at least one in the other major conferences (Big 12, Big Ten, SEC, C-USA). We also have maybe 3-4 guys who haven't really picked teams yet, just given lists, I think. Maybe if we pushed what we want to do a little harder on the board (maybe a new thread?), we can find those third or fourth teams for a lot of these conferences.

Yeah, that's about the limit, 4 to a conference I'd think Unless we have like 6-8 who want a conference
SirFozzie
11-30-2003, 06:43 PM
here's the rule set I was going to use for our league:
Starting Season 2003
Attribute Style 0-100
Human Coaches Fired? Yes (but I can understand if folks want to leave this off)
Game Logs? Not unless folks want to, I don't know how much room it'd take up for 16 coaches game logs
Randomize Team Prestige: No
Play-In Game: Yes
Conference Promotions/Demotions: No
Conference Prestige Updates: Yes
Academic Suspensions: Yes.
The_herd
11-30-2003, 06:47 PM
I like those. I'm all for coaches getting fired, makes you work a little harder and puts some pressure on ya. The attributes on a 0-100 style is almost a must for me, there is no other way to play it IMO.
These settings are the most realistic you could have and thats what I'm for, so it sounds good here.
SirFozzie
11-30-2003, 06:48 PM
Also, we have to decide what level of coaching points we want. I figure we want to be GOOD coaches, if not gods, so maybe level 10 (300 Points?)
(100+20 for each level, Level 0=Hard, level 7=-Normal, 15=Easy)
Balldog
11-30-2003, 06:51 PM
I like them as well, I'd say anywhere between 7-10 for coaching level.

Personally, I like the A-F letter system for evaluation but I'd be willing to use the 0-100 scale. What do you find is so beneficial to this scales as oppossed to any other one? I only use A-F because I started using it the first time I played and haven't changed since but I'm interested in why you like 0-100 so much.
Second, I like to play on level 7, making a someone whose above average in some things, and average in the rest but on the other hand, we're just competing amongst ourselves, so it's even for everybody in the end.
Easy Mac
11-30-2003, 06:56 PM
I like the idea of having something set up to where there are 4 players in a conference.
Just to ease this out of the gate (we can change things around later after we get the sim rolling) why don't we do this:
4 PAC 10 teams
4 Big East teams
4 Big XII teams
4 ACC teams
I think this would be the easiest way. Then maybe we could just schedule eachother outside of conference play.

You know, I really can't answer it. I just don't like looking at the A-F ratings, thats one of the problems I had with TDCB. I think its easier to get a feel for a player with the 0-100 ratings. I have a real problem getting into the A-F ratings for some reason.

What about 0-20?

Looks like the current "hole" is Pac-10 only. If we get enough interest we can open up a fifth conference
And since folks are ready to go, I will create the initial file as 2000, sim to 2003, and then add the human coaches in, a week from today (I work Tues-thurs, Sat and Sunday 2 AM-Noon before having three days off Mon Tues Wed)

FWIW, SirFoz: The A-F ratings still are on a 0-100 scale, they're just masked into the letter grade form.
So during the game, your "C+" PF would still have his playing effected by his actual rating (probably a 60 or so).
