View Full Version : CPU offering low sal/high bonus contracts?

I found myself in a little bit of cap trouble, so I decided to try and trade away some salary for some cheaper talent. In doing so, I noticed that a number of good players on CPU teams had contracts with low numbers for regular salary, but then huge amounts of bonus. I don't have any specifics, but typically I would see three to four year deals with a million or million and a half in salary for all but the last year of the contract. The last year would be several million more (like 3 or 4 million). However, the signing bonus that was spread out among the contract would be in the 5-6 million dollar per year range.

The end result - the CPU will never trade these guys because it would mean huge dead cap space (and you get the message saying as much when you try to make the offer).

Is this realistic? Do CPU contracts need tweaking? Has anyone else noticed this? Just thought I would toss it out to see if it spurred any discussion.

This is the result of the Cap Out offer and is pretty typical of many superstars in todays NFL.
