PokerStars is running their freeroll at 9 tonight, Ron and I are already planning to be in it, both of us have top 500 finishes in the last couple days, so, if you want to join about 5,000 players and see how strong your poker skills are.. ;)

Never used PokerStars before, but I'll probably make it in depending on how much of my paper I can get done ahead of time.

Dola.

Rather than starting a new thread, I figured I'd ask in here. For people who play at casinos, specifically in the Northeast, is there any site that has information on what types of games are available and the minimum age. I saw something on here that said some New York Casinos allow gambling at 18 and I'm trying to figure out the nearest place to play a little Hold'em, whether it is in CT or NY.

The only one I've been to is in the Bahamas, and while it allows gambling at 18, Caribbean Stud is the only "poker" game.

Bishop: You'd have to go to Turning Stone.

PM me if you want more info.

SirFozzie

True, 1000 entries to this one, no limit to the entries in the 3 am one apparently.

(I'll probably do both)

8:10 PM, entries open, any and all folks NEED to be ready the second it opens.

Turning Stone would prob be the closest to you since Foxwoods you have to be 21 to go in the casino.

I just played in a tournament last night. Finished 371st out of 1202 ($3 tourney), mostly thanks to someone going all-in with a pair of jacks (he held KJ) against my AA, and he got a K on the river. Grrr. I was still alive for awhile, but ended up going all in with a pair of Kings, and someone else ended up with Kings and Nines.

I love Hold Em Poker.

SirFozzie
12-08-2003, 06:18 PM
it sounds down to earth and ritzy at the same time.

"No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em Poker" (sounds like some crazy game you'd do on poker night)

and then

"The Cadillac of Poker"

less than a minute until registration begins

EDIT - Registration has begun

EDIT - Didn't get in, even though when I clicked register, ~60 people were listed as registered. Oh well, I'll probably be up for the 3am one.

Damn you, SirFozzie.. Because of you I'm now up to 3 places to play cards online. :) I missed out on the entry for this one myself and will try and get in on the 3 am one. Off to play some Turbo Texas Hold'em to warm up a bit. Been a few weeks since I last played.

I'm on Absolute right now, if anyone else wants to play. Kind of packed, but not as much as for that Freeroll tourney was. I'll be on the 3000/10000 playmoney buy-in tournaments.

I bought TTH off my uncle a few months back when he got tired of it and fell in love, been pondering over picking up the Tournament edition for a while now. Maybe I'll have to ask santa for a copy for Christmas.

Anyone who orders software from Wilson Software (the Turbo THE guys) -- be sure to enter "Holiday Special" in your coment space if you order on line, and you'll get a nice discount-- $20 off for the standard software, $15 off the tournament game. Pretty good deal, all told.

I just got the Tournament THE game - only sat with it once, and don't yet have a feel for how useful I will find it. But the system is awfully good.

What is the principle of the TTHE software?

What is the progression of events, or what types of thing make it so useful?

Thanks for any opinions,

Turbo Texas Hold'em teaches tight, aggressive play. It gives advice as you play, gives exact odds, evaluates your play, has lots of statistics and lets you do testing. (You can even assign specific cards to specific players if you like.) You set the limits and the number of players (2-10) and what type of game you want to play in (loose, tight, average, etc.). You can even make your own players. It does not include tournament play nor no-limit or pot-limit play.

Tournament Texas Hold'em plays tournaments; limit, pot-limit or no-limit. You choose from 1-100 tables, rebuys or not, how quickly the blinds increase and level of competition : average, above average or loose. The Turbo features listed above are not in the tournament.

In summary, Turbo helps improve your play for both regular and tournament play while the Tournament program adds the ability to practice the timing and money management skills needed for tournament play.

I have been interested in Hold'em for awhile and will be playing with friends next week and have played a bit on yahoo and fiddled with the play money section of Party Poker in the last few months. However I want some soild software to play on the side since I find the game fascinating. Is the Wilson software the best for that even if I don't forsee myself playing seriously at a casino or gambling any time soon or would other software do a good job of simulating the game/tournament of Hold'em?

Its supposed the be easily the best software out there, and a very accurate simulation.

Messing around for an hour on PokerStars and I managed to accumulate over 20000 in free chips. I may venture into the pay tables one day.

SirFozzie
12-08-2003, 10:28 PM
Bone: Do not mistake freeroll play as good pay table play.

There's a good reason that Play Money ring games are called "Texas No-Fold-Em Hold Em". ;)

Tournaments are a bit different

Bonegavel
12-08-2003, 11:21 PM
No doubt Fozz. I actually managed to find a table with a low player/flop ratio and it was fun. Later on, every table saw 99% at the flop and people were "all in" every hand. Oh, and the amount of "your mama's" and the like were not uncommon.

I may plop down some money just so I can play a bit more seriously.

SirFozzie

Bonegavel

i tried the one tonight, but it was closed by the time i found it. Can you set up your own mini-tournies in there? It would be sweet if we could get a bunch from here together and each throw in like $5.

[edit: it would be nice if we could get 9 from here to commandeer a room one night in the freeplay.]

SirFozzie

I'll be there at PokerStars for the midnight PST freeroll as per usual. SN - kingfc22

The freeroll tournaments start to have really good play after the first break. Usually, the first hour is full of people going all-in because they want to leave.

Well, 1266th place. Lost to a higher flush on the river going all in. Was playing too conservative early and it cost me alot of chips on decent hands and then ended up battling a short stack after a misplayed hand on my part.

One nice thing, SirFozzie took my seat, make sure and kick their asses. ;)

Turd Ferguson

Well, finished at 1251 out of 3255, not too great. It was the first tourney I have played though. Most heartbreaking moment came when I folded Jc 5h and the flop was three 5's, it was all downhill from there and I couldn't recover.

Eilim
12-09-2003, 02:58 AM
I'm definetly picking up the tourney addition of TTH though. This was my first tourney, and my first try at no-limit. Even after a few years of playing Hold'em, I felt like a fish out of water.

Was on the big blind with pocket dueces. One guy went all in and it cost me another 155 to see a flop. Came up 2 A 9. Bet and was called by 3 others who had an A. Next card was an A, which made my boat and left the others calling my bets.

I won the hand and now have 14,820 in chips.

Haven't had a chance to post until now. I got as high to 4th in chips and then my table closed down and I was put in a new one with 36 people left.

I was able to win one or two hands, but then got caught in a bluff and lost a good chunk of my chips. At that point in the tourney I was ranked 18th out of 20 with 119K chips. The avg. was around 275K.

A few hands later, I had the same amount of chips and came across AdQd. The blinds were 3000/6000 and I was in position number 6. Everybody in front of me folded. So I came out aggressive with a 20K bet. Next 3 guys folded and then the chip leader at the table and #3 overall raised me to 32K. Everybody else folded and it was back to me. Being one of the smallest stacks left, I decided that this was a chance to double up. ALL-IN. He calls.

He turns over a 7h 10s?!?!
I have AdQd.

flop comes Qc Jh Kh

At this point we both have draws and I have a solid pair.

turn card comes 9s.

Crap. I need a 10 to save me now on the river and I can not believe that I might lose to this horrid hand.

river card is another Q.

My 3Q's with A kicker loses to his 4 card straight on the table.

20th out of 3100 is now my best and hopefully I can beat that on Wednesday night.
