Fantasy Football - question

Well my playoffs are in full effect and if I win this game I'm in our "Super Bowl".

So my question is who do I start at QB?

McNabb @ Mia on Monday night

or

Pennington home against Pitt

Our pnt system works like this for QB:
6 pnts for TD
1 pnt for 50 yrds
bonus after 300
1 pnt for 25 yds rushing


So what do you think.... help me get to y Super Bowl ;)

Tough one. If the weather looks good I would think Pennington. The Steelers D has been bad this year, and this game is a good matchup for the Jets. By that I mean a situation where a bad running team can't take full advantage of the Jets horrible run D... (the same as the Tennessee game). Both teams should pass a lot and the score will proabably be in the mid-high 20's for both teams.

Pennington has been a great fantasy play the past weeks (except last weekend that is), imagine having to choose between him and Marc Bulger, the problem I'm confronted with in the FOFC Euro FFL semi finals...

On the other hand, when rushing yards are a pre, McNabb is the better choice, though he is facing the Dolphins defense (despite their December choke history).

follwup. McNabb has twelve passing TD's and 1 rushing TD this year. Not exactly stellar stuff. I'm sure the Eagles win, but i'd be shocked if you got anymore than 225 yards and 2 TD's out of him. The high end expectations are so much greater for Pennington.

If you are definitely an underdog in your game this week, Pennington has to be the choice (as long as the weather for the game is reasonable).

If you expect to win regardless, McNabb *may* be the safer choice.

That Eagles/Dolphins game has 13-10 written all over it. I'd go with Pennington too.

He did get off to a slow start, but over the last 6-7 games he has been a stud and the Eagles have been on a roll.

with that scoring system you need volume in tds. Pennington has a much, much better chance to throw 3 than McNabb...

still, even over that span he's averaging UNDER 2 touchdowns a game. At QB, that is not a fantasy stud.

Plus, he doesn't get all that much for rushing yardage... Pennington is definitely the choice here.

Thanks for the advise. I'm probably going to start Pennington just on the match up basis and the 6 pnt for TD. Hopefully he will bounce back from last week. Thank God I had a first week bye...

FYI, every QB in the league is averaging under 2 TD passes a game :)

That is just not a good standard for QB fantasy stud, unless you would conclude there are no fantasy QB studs this year. Or last. In fact, only 17 players have gotten to 32 TDs the past 10 years (and P Manning has only gotten there once - he's a stud). QBs simply hardly ever average 2 TDs per game. Over that same time period, on average, only 5-6 QBs a year throw 24 a season (equalling the 1.5 per game McNabb has averaged during his last 6 games).

Still, Pennington has come closer than McNabb, throwing 12 TDs in his 7 games (in fact 12 in his six starts). And Chad has the better matchup. On the Goal Line, against the Steelers, they won't run.

I was saying that McNabb really hasn't been all that on-fire... the Eagles are winning, but his stats are still pretty unimpressive. My statement was also intended to include his rushing TD's (he only has 1). He simply hasn't been tearing it up.

I thought you claimed he was not that good over those six games because he had averaged less than 2 TDs per game over that span. It was just the idea that a QB needed to average 2 TDs/game to be a stud that I disagreed with. Pick any QB in the game, and they fail to meet that standard.

As I said, I agree with Pennington over McNabb (although I'm a Jet fan from SU - very confilicted). In fact, since he's been back, I'd take Chad over anyone. My first instinct when reading this thread was to respond to the "don't bench your studs" comment with "Pennington is the stud."

I'm sure we can pick quite a few QB's who have averaged at least 2 TD's (rushing+passing combined) over a 6 game span this season.

EDIT: My whole point was "McNabb has not been "on fire" over the last 6 games (or at any point in this season for that matter). The 2 TD thing was something that basically jumped to the top of my head. My real thought was "Can you expect two touchdowns out of him in a given week?" This season, the answer would be no.

I never really intended to install a 2TD/game benchmark, but I would still guess that 6-8 QB's averaged 2 TD's over a 6 game span this season.

Just to throw my own Q in here, who would you start this week. Matt Hasselbeck against the Rams, or Trent Green vs the Lions? Personally, I'm leaning towards Matt, as I think he has the higher upside possibility in points, and I can't see him stinking the joint out two games in a row. That, and I can't see Green duplicating his numbers from last week either.

how on earth have you managed to land that Chiefs trio of Green, Holmes and Gonzalez?

If your confident the Chiefs will trash the Lions, I think a safe pick would be Trent Green, because if Priest Holmes does not run for scores, someone else will pass for them and Trent Green will be the guy to throw those TDs.

MIJB, I got very very lucky this year. Blade and I started a fantasy football league with 12 teams (but only 6 owners, so we each have 2 teams). Picked up Holmes with the second last pick of the 1st round as everybody else was scared of his injury. Got A. Green in the second, then took Trent Green rather late (think it was around the 8th or 9th round). Had him in a different league last year (McNabb was my starter, so Green saved my bacon in that league) and figured he'd make a good backup to Hasselbeck. Course, my other QB combo is Manning and Kitna (who's started for me twice, kicked ass during Manning's bye week, and actually made a great gut call on him later in the year). As for Tony G., he was selected after Heap and Shockey, so I got in a little late on the TE scramble, but made out okay ;)
