That was the best high school game I've probably ever watched, as painful as it was. I actually had to walk away from the computer after Statesboro got the 1st down in overtime. They seemed to be in a funk the whole game, several mental mistakes that, in the end, they couldn't overcome. Statesboro was the better team today, but from watching that game, I really feel that Tucker wins that matchup 3 out of 4 times.

The players have nothing to ashamed of, however, they made if further than anyone expected after Thomas Brown went down. I checked the dynasty for updates several times a week and it was fun to follow.

Nothing to be ashamed of at all ... and an awful lot to be proud of.

Odd, isn't it? I mean, people from across the country and beyond following the trials & tribulations of a team most of them never heard of until fairly recently. And, while I certainly knew about 'em & had even seen 'em play a few times over the years, I never had a particular interest until now.

I'm sure there's other teams out there that could have produced the same reaction from a group like FOFC but AFAIC there aren't any that would have shown more heart nor more effort than Tucker did tonight.

Ben, if it ever comes up, tell 'em there's quite a few more people proud of them than they might think.

Was this game broadcast over the internet?

Jon:

I hear ya. Of course, the kids were/are devastated. The coaches told them emphatically after the game how proud of them they all were. Those kids never, ever quit.

Brandon Lang (#19), the guy who had 3 sacks and a TD catch, had the flu all week.

I mentioned the possibility earlier, but didn't want to go into specifics, but now that the season is over, I'll say it.

Thomas would have almost certainly played next week in the championship game. He was probably as devastated as anyone.

What a tough way to end the season:(

Tucker should be very proud of their season

Knowing D.T., he probably still thinks they can win. :)

I thought that this was an FOF2k4 thread. I just got through a season with only nine turnovers.

Bill Parcells would cry joyous tears.

But I read the other thread about this. Please post the link when it's archived. Sounds like it was a great game.

Somebody want to tell, or give me a link, to why this game was big or the story of this Tucker team?

For those that asked, the game is now viewable online. I haven't watched it all yet, but the quality is pretty good. Having stepped back from the emotion of it, I do think it was a GREAT football game, and am curious to re-experience it this way. As I mentioned in my PM to you, Ben, I can't yet separate myself from the emotion of it. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic high school football game. Watch it for the last 7 minutes of the fourth quarter alone.

I'm watching overtime for the first time right now. I'm nervous all over again. Sheesh that was intense.

REMATCH NEXT FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!! Tucker and Statesboro finished the regular season this year ranked #1 and #2, and meet in the quarterfinals, both bringing 12-0 records into the contest. The winner heads to the Georgia Dome for the semis.

If you missed this one last year, it is *still* available online. It really was a classic confrontation and is worth watching: http://www.gpb.org/gptv/programs/ghsa/asx/Class4A-StbrVsTkr-h.asx

wow. I'll do my best to listen/watch (whatever is available online) next week. With it being a q-final game, the options may be limited. However, since it is #1 vs. #2, there may be something out there. I'll certainly let y'all know.

Familiar foe awaits Tucker in quarters

Unbeaten Tucker took a step closer to its first state championship by trouncing Northwest Whitfield 48-14 in the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs Friday night at Adams Stadium.

The victory, sparked by long touchdowns and scores from seven players, advanced the No. 2 Tigers to a showdown in next week's quarterfinal at home against No. 1 Statesboro, a 12-0 second-round winner over Northside-Warner Robins.

<!--endclickprintinclude--><!--startclickprintinclude--> Statesboro has beaten Tucker twice in the state playoffs — 8-7 in the 2000 quarterfinals and 27-24 in the 2003 semifinals in the Georgia Dome.

Tucker wants to avenge last year's elimination by the Blue Devils, but it also wants to get a second shot at a state championship.

The Tigers have reached the quarterfinals four times in the past five years, but they lost 13-12 to Dublin in their only title-game appearance, in 1963.

"If we play Statesboro," Tucker coach Bill Ballard said, "we know it's going to be a smashmouth football game."

Tucker entered Friday's second-round game having outscored opponents by an average of 29 points.

In contrast, Northwest Whitfield, whose 28-27 first-round win over North Clayton was its first in state play, came in with seven of its 11 games decided by six points or fewer.

Tucker (12-0) wasted little time establishing its dominance, scoring twice on five snaps. Myke Compton raced 46 yards for a 7-0 lead on the Tigers' third play from scrimmage. Two plays after Northwest's ensuing punt, quarterback Dwayne Harris raced 6 yards for a 14-0 advantage less than four minutes into the game.

Tyler Johnson's 67-yard return of Tucker's ensuing kickoff set up Northwest (9-3) at Tucker's 19-yard line, and Caleb Calahan scored eight plays later on fourth-and-goal from the 2 with 3:51 left in the first quarter.

The Tigers extended their lead to 21-7 when Harris threw a 44-yard scoring pass to Hamilton Sims on the final play of the first quarter. Northwest cut the deficit to 21-14 on Callahan's 1-yard dive with 6:17 left in the half. But Northwest would get no closer.

TUCKER 48, NW WHITFIELD 14

Northwest Whitfield 7 7 0 0 — 14

Tucker 21 14 13 0 — 48

T — Myke Compton 46 run (Brad Daniel kick)

T — Dwayne Harris 6 run (Daniel kick)

NW — Caleb Callahan 2 run (Enoc Fausto kick)

T — Hamilton Sims 44 pass from Harris (Daniel kick)

NW — Callahan 1 run (Fausto kick)

T — Trey Buice 74 punt return (Daniel kick)

T — Tavares Kearney 16 pass from Harris (Daniel kick)

T — Brandyn Young 3 run (Daniel kick)

T — Asher Allen 66 run (kick failed)

tell #8 to tuck the ball!!;)

Trey has already more than redeemed himself for the fumbles in the Dome. He had difference-making plays against both Marist and St. Pius--our two toughest games. Against Marist he ran back a block punt for a TD on the last play of the half for our only TD in the game, and against Pius he picked off a pass deep in our own territory when Pius was driving. He actually ran that pass back for a TD, but it was called back due to a *stupid* block in the back that occurred BEHIND him on the play. (Tucker has *really* cut back on the penalties in the last 5 or 6 games, though.) Trey also probably has 2-3 punt returns for TD's as well, and has been a real leader on defense in general. I hope they punt it to him and hope for a mistake. Both he and Asher Allen (usually the other deep man on punts) can just flat-out fly.

is tucker nationally ranked?

Ben E Lou
11-13-2004, 06:21 AM
is tucker nationally ranked? No. The Calpreps computerized rankings had us in the 600's in the nation going into this week. Tucker's skill position players can probably match up pretty favorably with anyone in the nation, but we're only above average on the line of scrimmage.
