As it is now, or the old way?

JeeberD

I like the old way better. It seems like it was easier to see who started it that way...

Agreed, and if enough people feel that way, I will talk to Ryan or the 'Dog about making the switch. Also, I dislike the bold threads (indicating you have not read since a new post)!

Actually, I really like that unread threads are bold. Makes it really easy to tell if there's anything new in there that you need to see...

Like the bold threads.

Dislike the poster underneath the topic.

Look at the very bottom of the page. You can change it there... :)

i like the bold threads. it matters not to me who started a thread, i go by thread title to determine what i want to read. if i'm so inclined to see who started i've already adjusted to where the new location is to find this info. no big deal.

The bold links ain't goin' nowhere. I agree that if we can get the thread start in a different column, that would be very nice.

I despise this new software. :( Not to knock the FOBL, but their horrible forums are one reason I barely visit anymore. :(

Before the color change made things at least tolerable to my eyes, I pretty much felt like Marmel.

Now if somebody could just do something about the "designed-for-the- visually-challenged" Name/title/date/location/posts deal to the left of the posts, I might eventually stop flinching every time a thread opens.

dola-

However, with the bold, I feel compelled to click on some threads, just so they will stop being distractingly bold.

I like the bold in the topics. Its too large for my tastes at work but I like the idea in general. I dislike the way the starter looks.

My only real complaint right now is how, in the view of a specific thread, the name of each poster is bold, underlined, and 2x as large as the text of the posts.

I had to download netscape to even make the board readable at work. In IE, even on the "smallest" text size the text in the posts was so large that I'm pretty sure people on other floor's can read it...

by switching to netscape, zooming out to 75%, and turning off signatures, the board is once again readable, but the names of the posters are way way too large for my tastes.

this place embraces change (for the better, trust me, I've been using vB3 for a few months now) like Mike Martz embraces Brenda Warner

(which, for those curious, is by putting a long-haired wig on her and slapping her in the ass)

I think we have discovered the greatest reason of all for the change.

Somehow, I feel more guilty for reading this board at work than the old one. I don't know why, but it looks more...unproductive.

(edit: maybe I should try "working" at work instead of posting.)

Skydog it will be pretty easy to add a thread starter column back on the side. If you feel it is a change that is needed to be made, let me know.

Wouldn't we let Skydog know?

Maybe it would be wise not to hack this site until vB is in final release...

I think it would be extremely wise not to even upgrade until any software is in its final release...

MrIllini

maybe everyone needs to stop jumping to rash decisions to hack and deem that this new software "is shit" after only 12 hours of it being up

Thread Starter Preference?

My preference is that the starter of any thread post a title that actually indicates something about what's inside... but that seems to be just me.

Is that what we're talkinig about here?

With the scroll-over option for new threads, that should help. At least you can read the first couple sentences without clicking a thread.

Does the board seem slower to anyone else, or is it just me? Also, I dislike the thread-stretching that seems to happen as the thread expands into the margins during the first 2-3 seconds I'm scrolling down it.

It is by no means a hack when all you do is change one template.Hah.

Why can't we just leave it as is for now and stop hacking, or changing the template, or whatever the fuck you want to call it until the final release. Then and only then make any modifications that the 'real' moderators deem neccesary.

I for one would like to thank Ryan and Simms for their hard work in getting this new version up and running so seamlessly, and don't give a rat's ass where the thread starter's name is located. It's there - get used to it.

LOL

-edited so I could atleast defend myself a bit.
No need to flip out. Thanks for the insult, but I have never considered myself a mod, so you can stop trying to make me feel inferior with that "real" mod comment, then continue to belittle my contributions by directly thanking Ryan and Simms and them only for their work (which we all appreciate) and again noting that the way the board looks now IS FINE (AND THAT'S THAT!), despite the one question I have proposed, many (76% if you are a numbers guy) agree that they like the old look. I am sorry but I have not made any 'hacks' or changes deemed necessary by anyone (if I would do anything like that I first consult the head haunchos, who I talk to frequently), in fact all I have done is begun to recreate our former styles. That is all! :)

Speaking of forums, you might want to concentrate on the JBL's ;)

Haha, our old JBL forums used to kick ass but after we lost those and now are sporting the XMBs, I can proudly say I do not underappreciate the power of vB. Editing XMB is hell!

can we geta maxipad for this thread? Agreed. Dammit, Fritz, I think that's the second time this month.

Man, this is a lot of whining over nothing. My biggest complaint is the lack of trout-rectum option in the poll to express our apathy.

SI
