We have encountered many crossroads in our membership of late. We thrill over special moments in our lives, and suffer when life tramples us down.

The joy of marriage, and the bitterness of divorce. The wonder of childbirth, and the sorrow of death. New careers and opportunities, and lost jobs and uncertain futures.

We talk, we ramble, we discuss. We rant, we tease, and joke. We debate, we argue, we bicker. Some of our statements are founded in wisdom, knowledge, and experience, others in ignorance, arrogance, and blindness. But we always talk.

We cheer, we agonize, we tease, and we taunt. We are diehards, and casual fans. We are rivals, and cohorts, sometimes proud, sometimes embarrassed.

We sing, we create, we learn, we toil. We listen, we watch, and we analyze. We puzzle, we ask, we answer, and we ignore.

We are students, and teachers, and techs, and lawyers. We eat tacos and cheetos, and drink beer. We diet. We are tall, and short, and fat, and thin. We are slow and fast.

We like movies, and music, and creatures colossal. We write dynasties. We rate women and football draft picks.

We game.

We are like a small town, spread across the states and provinces and nations of the world. We are a band of brothers (and a few sisters), with all the characters of any extended family. Some have said “It’s just a bulletin board, get over it.” Instead, we get into it.

We stand with JAG and whoever else is on the verge of getting married, and say “Congrats!” We look with eagerness for pics from DolphinFan and the other new fathers. And we offer heartfelt words as we grieve with digamma.

We are FOFC.

Great post, i'm almost a newbie here but soon i felt in a familly. I'm member of tons of online comunities as it's part of my work, but i must admit that this is the one where i feel more confortable to hang around and relax form work each hour.

I also echo this sentiment and feel this is a great post. I cried as I read and re-read the thread about digamma and the grief of that community. I've also felt exhilaration as I've heard of some of the real triumphs on the board. Anyways, great post WSUcougar.

I'll archive it later today. I am running back out the door to the school again. I expect to be there the rest of the school day, but of that I'm not certain.

All I can think of is, "We are, we are, FOFC of the nation" "We are, we are FOFC of the nation". Ok, corny but that song is in my mind.

Great Post. I feel much like at home when in FOFC. I believe you echoed the feelings of almost everybody here.

SD, this should be archived in the FAQ. In the very first line. "Who we are"?

I agree. This is one of the few boards where you can say anything that's on your mind. I remember at first I didn't like how OT was mixed in with general discussion, but after a while I learned to like it. People never tell you that you are posting in the wrong forum...

Anyhow, great post WSU.

Great post WSU... FOFC indeed feels like a family.

I first posted about my wife becoming pregnant, you were all there...
Then I posted about the time when her doctor couldn't hear the baby's heartbeat, you were all there...
Then, as the big date was coming close, I posted about an induction date, you were all there...
Then, as I held my baby in my arms, yesterday around 1:30am, I thought: "Gotta post something on FOFC when I come home, they'll be there..."

Great community...

Nicely done!

It's comforting to know folks still have pride in this digital age.

I am curious though...what prompted the whole inspirational post? Just because? I can understand if that's the reason. Figured I'd at least ask! :)

This bulletin board is always a roller-coaster ride of emotions, trends, and phases, but I was really struck by the many disparate "real life" threads that we'd had in recent days/weeks. It's always special (to me) when guys take the time and energy to celebrate their real lives with the rest of us, and I take it to heart when guys are hurting enough to share that, too. Digamma's terrible loss hit me like a kick in the stomach, yet still, in sharp contrast, there was the joy of marriage and birth right here, too.

So that's what prompted the thread.

And thanks for the kind words, all.

It must really suck at that point every morning - just after you wake up - when you suddenly remember that you're you.
