The 4th and 26 conversion. It was a good play. However the main reason that play did pick up 26 yards was piss poor positioning by the Green Bay DB's. I haven't seen anything regarding Football be more overhyped since Mike Vick came into the league. What pushed me over the edge was when I saw a poll that AOL had put up regarding "the greatest play in Playoff history". Among the choices were The Immaculate reception, The Catch, the Music City Miracle, and one or two others. After voting I was shown the results. The immaculate reception had gottten 46% of the votes. However in second place was the 4th and 26 conversion, cashing in 21% of the votes. Is this some kind of cruel hoax? Are there really thousands of people out there that think this was even in the top 15 plays in the last 10 years? I can only imagine what it's like for non-Eagle fans who live in PA.

(repeating myself from another post) I'm an Eagles fan and I'm sick of it already. However, this sort of thing (with the poll) happens very often. The reason this 4 and 26 nonsense recieved that many votes is that it is still very fresh in everyone's mind.

This reminds me of the Budweiser commercial with the ref that is signaling how close the first down was. He places his hands close and says "4th and this much" then reaches his arms way out and says "well, it's really more like this, but with this" moves hands close "we have drama and this" moves arms back out "nothing." That wasn't verbatim, but you understand. The numbnuts are just looking for the "PLAY" that they can do circle-jerks to for the next few years. Annoying I know, but what can we do.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. Its not better than the Music City Miracle, the Immaculate reception. The Catch is VERY overrated in my opinion , but even that ranks above this play. I think that it has to be given consideration for one of the top 15 plays in the past 10 years.

"the Throw" as I prefer to call it (Young-to-Owens with 3 seconds left) is an amazing play that will last in my memories forever...simply fabulous.

Steve Young threw that all-important ball so well, so accurately, just above 3 Packers defenders before it fell down as a rainbow in Owens' arms.
The most amazing thing is that Steve Young was about to fall down, he stumbled...the game would have been lost for SF...and no, he recovered, looked, threw 25 yards away to the end-zone : TD.

Why is it overrated? Clark had to jump so ridiculously high to catch that ball, and it was for the game, and...it was just amazing :)

It was a pretty great play at the time, and it's importance has grown I believe because it signified a changing of the guard. In my mind that play symbolizes the ascent of the forty niner organization to greatness.

I can't consider it over rated in that I never expected the niners to win, I don't believe many did. Also my father has always been a huge 49er fan, and I will never forget him leaping out of his chair when Clark made that catch. I think he could have dunked.

-What noone has mentioned yet is that The Catch and The Immaculate Reception are memorable and important not just because they were improbable, but because they both heralded the start of two pretty impressive dynasties. Little did we know at the time that both teams would go on to such greatness. That is what makes these plays stand out a little more than The Music City Miracle, which was a good play in and of itself, or Cleveland's fumble or TO's catch or Gary Anderson's missed field goal.

What I'll never understand is all this talk about comebacks and awesome QBs. If the QB was truly awesome, the game would have been a blowout. But then, blowouts aren't all that fun to watch.

At the very least, a QB that is great at 4th Qtr comebacks should be said to be doing just enough to keep his job.

A lot of 4th quarter comebacks are game that end in a 35-32 score or something similar. In which case it would be the defense who wasn't doing their job, and the Quarterback would have to play an excellent game just to have a chance at winning.

I remember a poll on ESPN right after the Colts beat the Chiefs on who would win the AFC Championship Game and who would win the Super Bowl. It was something like 60% felt the Colts would win the AFC, but 50% felt that the Patriots would win the Super Bowl.
