starts soon, Barberie looks and acts stupid... shocking.

I think the Panthers will win. I don't think they're the better team, but if its close, they just kow how to win.

I think the 49ers led by the young Joe Montana (an obvious bust) are going to be blown out by the Danny White led Cowboys. 'Nuff said.

What is the over/under on blown calls from the officials for this one? I set the line at 25 blown calls. As an extra choice, choose which team will benefit the most from the blown calls. I say Philly will get the most questionable calls in their favor.

If you wanted to escape from Philly alive, would you make too many calls against the home team :D

I know. That's why I expect the Panthers to have to play against the Eagles AND the officiating crew in this one. They will not get any respect from anyone in this game.

Why can't anybody else see that McNabb tripped over Duece's feet? I've had that happen a time or two to me in games (played QB). Does anybody else see it? Next time they show the replay watch Duece Staleys right leg, he trips up McNabb on accident. Therefore making McNabb not down by contact which makes the follow up hit completely legal.

I wonder why Mcnabb hasnt had the tag "he cant win the big game" slapped on him. 2 straight title game losses and trailing at the half of a 3rd.

I'm pretty happy with the way the Panthers have played this half. Of course that last possession could have been better, but I'm used to Fox "squandering" possessions at times like that, especially with a lead.

I guess Mcnabbs meltdown will be "the great Panther defense" where Peytons was "he cant win the big game while 3 D lineman are chasing him". I would think Pats fans would want to credit the great defense a little more.

You know, I keep watching this POS Eagles offense (and outside of McNabb, this offense pretty much sucks talent wise), and I ask myself, why do the Eagles continually fight with the Cards to have the most free cap space at the beginnning of each season?

Memo to Andy Reid: Sign a #1 receiver. Now. This collection of scrubs suck and are taking years off of McNabb's career before our eyes.

sabotai
01-18-2004, 08:29 PM
Are the Eagles going to do it again...Carolina's defense has to step up and make plays. They can't sit back, especially on this 4th and 2 play. Stop them here and it coudl be the game. Don't...and it could be the game going the other way.

Chalk that one up to homefield advantage. Not to mention a huge bail-out of Todd Pinkston, who now has a terminal case of alligator arms.

How soon after the free agent period starts does Terrell Owens sign with Philly? 10, 11 minutes?

Todd Pinktston is pathetic. And trying to blame the ref (who actually ducked out of the way) for a ball that hit him when he wasn't even looking just capped a great night for him.

And yes, to answer someone's question above, I think Steve Smith was trying to lateral that ball, because the instant before the ball came loose, I actually saw the guy there and thought, "That's an awfully tempting place to try a lateral." And then the ball flew out and up.

I really hope he doesn't...just don't need the problems in the lockerroom...

But Heaven knows we need some receivers who can play. Pinkston and Thrash looked absolutely horrible! Been Philly's story for a while, but they never seem to learn that they really do need a Number 1 receiver...

Not a good comparison, IMNSHO.

He didn't have it today, and he was basically crippled. Doubtful you'd see a hockey player keep going after what he just took.

I don't think Montana or Unitas could have done much with this mess the way the Panthers played on defense today.

You know, if I was an Eagles fan, I'd be damn pi**ed right about now. It's like the front office hasn't learned a thing. It was glaring as heck last year in the loss to the Bucs that the Eagles needed to go out and get some receivers...they had cap room, so it's not like they couldn't have done it (they have had the first and second most cap room each of the last 3 seasons). The fact that they basically tried to go with the same team speaks legions about the ownership and front office (is it Reid that makes the personnel decisions there?)

Tell me about it! It has been apparent for a while, ever since Freddie Mitchell showed that he is not the top guy Philly thought he was, that we were in desperate need for a receiver. I know that they are always concerned about the mood in the lockerroom, so maybe they didn't want to shake anything up, but it was proven last year that we are not a championship team, and it was proven again today. I hope they take notice this time.

Of course, those were knocks that were applied to Steve Young for a long time. He was hide your eyes awful with the Bucs.

We can debate the pros and cons of Donovan McNabb until we're blue in the face, but anyway you want to slice it, the Eagles offense has a lot bigger holes in it than the QB spot.

I might point out that probably nobody reads a defense better than Peyton Manning, and he completed about as many passes to Ty Law today as he did Marvin Harrison. :)

Tell me about it. One of the biggest things that is overlooked right now is the Eagles offensive line. For having two potential Pro Bowl tackles, and an above average guard (Wellborne), they allow the defense to really get to the QB in a hurry.

Just finished showing the McNabb interview on ESPNEWS, i really kept hoping he would say, "Damn, we need some F***ING receivers!"

Not that that was thier ONLY problem, but it would have hepled them.

On a side note, i think this is one reason i have started taking Packer's losses so much better lately, including last week; every team has a shitty ending except one team, and every week half the teams are going to lose....so i always know that i am not the only dissapointed fan after a given week or at the end of the season. Welcome to the club Eagles and Colts fans, next week one more team joins it.

All quarterbacks are overrated. All of them.

Even the prodigal son himself, Michael Vick? Nah, I saw a poll one time that said 55% of the football fans in the United States thought he was the greatest football player in history. And that was before he won 10 games...in his entire career. :p

I'll take Manning easily over McNabb on any given sunday. If I decide to run the wishbone offense then maybe I'll think twice about that, but until then I'll take #18.

Of course, those were knocks that were applied to Steve Young for a long time. He was hide your eyes awful with the Bucs.

If you're trying to compare the talent Young had around him in TB (they went a combined 4-28 those 2 years) to the talent McNabb had around him in his first 2 years then you're fighting a losing battle. No I am not implying that you're fighting a battle either, it's a figure of speech. ;) Young was a throw-first run second QB. What made him great is he could actualy beat you with his brain, his arm, and his legs. McNabb has shown he can beat you with his legs, and his campbells chunky soup. McNabb has put up average at best passing numbers. In fact if you look at his numbers closely and compare them to other QB's in the past 15 years you would start to see how truly :cough: overrated :cough: he is. Compare him to somebody like Scott Mitchell for example. Do you think of Scott Mitchell as a McNabb caliber quarterback? How about Neil O'Donnell? How about Erik Kramer? How about Jeff Blake? How about Dave Krieg? What kind of talent did these guys have around them, and were still able to put up just as good or better numbers. Just a little brain snack to munch on.

Wow, that was very sureal. For the hell of it I fired up the computer this afternoon and let the Panther and Eagles lpay on Madden. The Panthers won 17-0 in a game that looked way too similar to this game, even with McNabb being injured and coming out of the game.

Oh well, with three straight losses in the NFC championship game it looks like they are officially a bargain basement version of the Bills.

Boy...definitely tough being an Eagles' fan........and an A's fan!!!!!

Son of a bitch...that hurts!!!!

No receivers...just like everybody here and the commentators kept saying. But, they have been the same guys all year...but they won anyways...why??? 'Cause they used other guys...Smith and Chad Lewis at TE were big contributors...not today. Also, minus Westbrook hurt them because he was a playmaker running or catching the ball. Staley played very well today...very gutsy...but, he was the only one.

Vincent and Taylor were non factors and Dawkins screwed up large on the TD pass.

Bottom line...Eagles didn't execute on offense and didn't create any turnovers on D...and nobody is going to win games without doing either of those things...let alone both of them.

Thank goodness the Eagles lost. I'm sick of hearing about how McNabb is such an awesome QB. The only great QB's are Bradshaw, Marino, Montana, Elway and Favre. All the rest may be good but definately not great. At least Jim Kelly made it to the Super Bowl. What has McNabb done? Led his team to 3 straight HOME championship game losses. Greatness - definatley not.

The first one was at St. Louis, the last two were at home.

Yeah but even being the Eagles fan, It shoulda ended last week with GB - watching McNabb look at an 8 man front with 3 WRs... High school QB's even know that someone is open off the line, granted Mitchell/Thrash/Pinkston would probably drop it...
but 5 secs. and rolling right AND he still cant find an open reciever??? McNabb promptly got sacked and I left the room cursing mightily...

Reid should carefully consider what got him all these wins, a former Pro-Bowl TE now only good for 20+ catches after setting the team record 2 years ago??? a Kabillion $$$ line, 3 good backs and they STILL wont run the ball 30+ times a game??? All for that VAUNTED west-coast offense... WAKE UP!!! NE & CAR dont use the offense and they are going to the promised land. All those disciples who flocked to the west coast scheme realize it now, "D"s have figured out how to stop the COAST... find a running game, control the clock and JAM the WR's at the line - there go those timing routes!
Rant over...Season Over...How bout them Phillies :)

What do the Phila Eagles and Billy Graham have in common???
BOTH can make 60,000 in a stadium stand up and shout Jesus Christ!!!

The McNabb bandwagon was certainly getting out of hand, and i'm glad it's over with.

I honestly wouldn't of even watched the Superbowl had the Eagles of made it. They were calling him a 'Legend' today before the game... and have to go into his long drawn out story every single game... After a point it just insults your intelligence.

I don't have anything personal against McNabb or the Eagles, but they've hyped up him and his team so much I was hoping he'd stay in a little while longer just so I could watch him get sacked a few more times.

I jumped on the bandwagon last week. After years of bashing him and having declared him overrated, I gave in last week. I said that he had cracked into the top tier of QBs. Now I didn't think they'd beat Carolina this week, but I figured McNabb would keep them in the game. I knew the Panthers wouldn't let him run around like the Packers did, but I really figured he'd be more of a factor. In my mind He carried the Eagles this year, as opposed to years past where I felt it was the other way around.

I'm already having withdrawls, it was really so much more fun to bash McNabb, and that was even before Rush weighed in.

This is coming from someone who just got home from the game (had a long drive back home)...

If McNabb doesn't get hurt on that play, I think it would have been closer. He couldn't run because he could barely breathe (it was obvious in huddles), and his throwing style changed, it seemed, to compensate for the injury.

Anyway, from the crowd...it seemed like every time we got to cheer, we immediately had to sigh, because it got taken away from us. People wanted to kill Pinkston, were pissed that Jon Ritchie wasn't used more in the offense, and couldn't understand why we weren't going to the tight ends. I agree with those sentiments.

The defense played very well, save for the two touchdown plays. The latter one was poor tackling and a good hard run by Foster. The first one I'd chalk up to Delhomme's glitter right now. That ball just died in the air, and Bobby Taylor, as injured as he's been, and as slow(er) as he is now, he just couldn't recover in time to make a play. If it were last year, that ball's picked off (Taylor takes down Muhammad, Dawkins picks it off). But, it wasn't, and that's the way Carolina's been doing it.

Also, Lito Sheppard's inexperience killed the defense on that final scoring drive. When you watch Troy Vincent (he *definitely* won't return next year, as much as I don't like to write that...way too slow now, it seems), and Bobby Taylor...they have the instinct to know when to turn around and play the ball. Lito doesn't have it yet...that ball would have been picked off in the end zone if he just realized to turn around and play the ball. That killed the momentum...well, whatever momentum we could get before Pinkston broke off a route that turned into a pick, or Thrash did the same. I'd say that maybe ONE of McNabb's picks were his fault. The one pass to Pinkston that got picked off to kick off the second half is inexcusable on Pinkston's part. And the pass to Thrash before halftime that got picked off was due to Thrash taking the route back outside, after McNabb already threw it inside. Thrash got the inside in the first six yards of that route, and had it for a long gain if he stayed with it. Why he went back outside is beyond me.

Anyway, that's my take (so far). When I wake up, and get more frustrated about what happened, I'll post more. ;)

[QUOTE=Noble_Platypus]I guess Mcnabbs meltdown will be "the great Panther defense" where Peytons was "he cant win the big game while 3 D lineman are chasing him".

According to Bob Trumpy on the radio, it was all the fault of those Eagles wide receivers who ran stupid play after stupid play. McNabb would have been great had it not been for those cretins who were ruining the game for him.

Of course every completion was purely the result of the athletic skill of McNabb.

i think you're showing your age: graham, unitas. i think even a contemporary of yours, young, was as good as montana. he just didn't have the defense and coach that montana had.

Yep Wheels,
I'm not that old but what about Sonny Jurgensen, Y.A.Tittle, Bart Starr, I think they deserve the GREAT QB title too :)
But in KingFC's defense I get his point... Wait until McNabb retires before annointing him anything - he's gonna leave/get traded before he blossoms - its the philly curse
