So sayeth Chris Mortensen:

Should make the draft a bit more interesting, me thinks. I have a feeling that Al Davis thinks that the impending retirements of Rice and Brown can be fixed with one pick now.
he'd be dangerous alongside Jerry Porter...... he may be worth the #2 pick... who knows....

Well, Oakland has the #2 pick, so that isn't a problem ;).
all better.... forgot San Diego was still in the league..... :) :D
edit: I just need to go to bed.....

Doesn't Oakland really need a quarterback?

I would think so, I'm not so sure that Gannon will be able to recover from this one, and I don't think Tuiosopio (Sp??) is the long term solution.
Rick Mirer isn't even worth mentioning.

If they hire Rick N. then Tui will be the QB

Who is worthy and fits the Raiders style with the No. 2 selection?

Interesting question re: the Raiders and their QB situation. Haven't the last few seasons in the NFL proven that you don't need an elite QB to get to and even win a Super Bowl? Marques Tuiasosopo may not be Joe Montana, but is he potentially any worse than Trent Dilfer or Jake Delhomme? He tries to do too much at times and doesn't have the strongest arm in the world, but he's a tremendous competitor and great leader - I think he could succeed as a starter if given a year or two to learn on the job.
Wouldn't the Raiders be better off getting an impact player at another position like a Larry Fitzgerald?

"The Chosen One" Kellen Winslow Jr.

For my money I would much rather have Ben Troupe than Winslow. I hope, nay, pray, that the Lions do not draft Winslow if he is still there at six.

Stud WR's are overrated.
Whens the last time the Vikes made the playoffs? Moss takes up too much cap space, best or not, he hsn't helped.
What's T.O. helped accomplish?
Marvin Harrison?
On the Bucs last year, who'd they have at WR? An overrated Keshawyn Johnson.
Patroits before that? Troy Brown. Not top tier.
Ravens? Travis Taylor?
You need a QB or you need a defense and a good coach.

Didn't the Bucs win a Super Bowl? TO, I don't know. He's the best receiver in the league I think. He's help take the Niners offense to the next level, who I don't think that offense is really that good without Terrell. They made the playoffs. Harrison, he's Manning's best target, and is a big part of going to AFC title game. Taylor? I never saw him as a stud, in an offense built on an average quarterback and the running game. Plus, an offensive line that is rebuilding. Troy Brown, never was top tier.
But even having a superstar quarterback isn't the answer either. I believe defense is what it takes.

Oops, I didn't phrase my point. I was talking about the teams that won without stud WR's.
My point was, stud WR's don't deserve the money they get. Moss might be a playmaker, but you can get two solid linemen or a DB and a LB or whatever for what he makes. I'd take a QB like Brady who is still solid and makes great decesions, over a WR like T.O. any day. I'd take Baltimores D over Manning any day. Give me the Jets offense with the Ravens defense and you've got a superbowl. All you need is clock management.

Whats Manning accomplished?
Whats McNabb accomplished.
On the Bucs last year, who was their QB? Brad Johnson, not a superstar.
The Patriots had Brady, a very good QB, but in terms of physical skills, not top 5.
The Ravens had Trent Dilfer.
You could do this with any position.

Even will Fitzgerald's guady stats and rep there are whispers he's not very fast. That may influence draft position - rightly or wrongly - based on the combine numbers should he choose to run...

Moss isn't the issue in Minnesota. It is the defense. Without Moss, this team was a 5-11 team at best...

Well, he is likely in the top half of the first round, and thus will skip the combine completely. He will eventually have to run - if they don't teams assume they are slow - but it will be in a private workout arranged by agents.

DOLA. I think the issue is not how good Moss is. Just that at a position in which it is generally considered easy to find players, they have invested a ton of cap money. If that ~10 million cap charge were used to pay for a stud DL, an athletic LB and a decent WR, the Vikes would be a better team.
