First Belmont beats Missouri.

Now Richmond over Kansas.

Shame... Shame...

Not many great conferences this year. This might be the year of the Mid-Majors.

We already knew this was going to be a down here at KU. The whole "losing a pair of NBA 1st rounder seniors" will do that to you. I mean, we're not bad- still a pretty good top 25 team at 11-3.

Let's not go nuts here, tho. The Big 12 is still one of the best conferences out there but this was going to be a down year for them with a lot of key players having left this past year from the powers (KU, OU, UT) and Mizzou not being nearly as good as advertised. Still, there are going to be *at least* 5 teams from the conference in there come tournament time and that's assuming Mizzou doesn't put it together and all the teams like Colorado (10-5) and Iowa State (11-3) get left home.

And some nights, like tonight, you roll the ball out on the court and expect to win without putting a full effort. Sometimes you get burned- better now than tourney time.

Woot! Go A-10! #1 in the RPI, another legit Top 25 team and now a win @KU. Just don't look at my school (hey - we only lost by 25 to St. Joe's.)

I really gotta get out to St. Joes and see them in action. I'm about 30 minutes away from campus, and I don't proclaim to be a fan (That would be bandwagon jumping), but they do play good ball. Nelson is a stud.

Of course the Big 12 is overrated. How else would we know college basketball has started?

big ten baby... it's all about the badgers, don't you know?!?!? I would agree that the Big 12 is coming back to earth, but they are still head and shoulders above the manure pile aren't they????

No way, the BIg 12 was rumored to be that good last year, but weren't. And the year before, but weren't. They are rumored to be only 3rd or 4th this year, and are not that good. They are overrated every year.

Dayton @ St. Joseph's, Feb. 11. A-10 Game of the Year. Hopefully ESPN will pick this game up.

Samdari -

Yes, 2 teams in the final four and one more that lost to the national champs in the regional final means you're overrated. Weak.

Last year the Big XII was absolutely the shit in basketball. Not so this year.

Obviously, I don't agree. But, as a fan of a team which ripped through the Big 12, you can see where I would think they were overrated.

You'll see who's who come tourney time. :)

Looking a little deeper though, it is only at the (supposed) top that the Big 12 is faltering. Texas Tech has actually played the best ball in the conference, with Oklahoma St probably second and Iowa St. is WAY ahead of expectations. If Mizzou can somehow rebound, and/or Iowa St/Colorado win 10 games in the league, they could still get 6 bids.

Texas, OSU, Texas Tech and Kansas still look like locks (for now). The committee will look for reasons to get OU and Mizzou in, given their preseason hype, but if Iowa St. or Colorado finish ahead of them, it would be tough.

OSU has been quite a surprise thus far.

Nelson is a stud.Do they still do the Big 5 series in Philly? I went to grad school at Temple and always enjoyed those intense games. That was back when Temple was #1 in the nation for awhile. Their theme song was "Big Time" by Peter Gabriel. Have I dated myself enough yet? :D

Lets go Duke, Lets go Duke... ACC is the best in the nation.

Missouri is getting close to the point where it would take a win in the Big XII tournament to get into the NCAAs. Ordinarily, beating OU and taking Texas to OT might be signs of life, but OU is, well...I believe that's your cue, SirFozzie.

Actually it does. PAC-10 is very down this year, but just because Arizona and Stanford are good and could very well do that, doesn't automatically make them a good conference

Your logic is a little off. The Big XII could have been overrated last year, the Pac-10 could be overrated this year, but not because they have 2 final four teams and a 3rd regional finalist.

The Big XII was 6-1/2 deep with very good basketball teams last year. Tech and Colorado combined for 1-1/2 good teams.

I have obvious Tiger bias here. But give me a conference (hell, even the ACC) and let's match up head to head.

Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas (put your third best against them), Oklahoma State (put your fourth against them?), Texas Tech, and then send your sixth best team against Mizzou? We can even go deeper with Colorado and Kansas State but I doubt the ACC will match well with Clemson. Let's bump this thread come tournament time.

Since Kansas lost to Nevada, does that mean the Big-12 is worse then the.....WAC?

This year: Big 12 not so great, you have teams rebuilding. OU was obviously overrated at #6. Now with Bookout out for the year, it could be painful (although since Bookout was hurt and unable to practice much, I don't think it will hurt *that* much). KU is a decent team, but is relying on a new system and new players. Mizzou failed to put it together after losing Clemons. The mid-range teams are deeper, though. OSU with Lucas is looking decent, Tech with Emmett back is playing great ball. Iowa State, Nebraska, Colorado not so bad. Baylor has obviously taken giant steps backwards. Anyway, at the top, the conference was overrated.

As for last year, to have two teams in the final four, one play for the national championship game, another in the Final Four, and yet another in the elite eight says a lot. All lost to the National Champion, but you don't have to be the best team in the nation to have the best conference in the nation. All three of the teams had star players with a great supporting cast.

As for the year before, there were also two final four teams and a #12 seed that made the elite eight. I would say that they were underrated that year. OU was better than Indiana, they just lost the game (no excuses though, but seriously, with Price, White, Ere, and McGhee, there were no excuses to lose).

Anyway, I'll give you the overrated this year, but not the two previous seasons.
