Okay, I'll start off with a little thing on it..
Did you guys like the way it worked backwards?! I really enjoyed it, made me think a lot!

Heh. Not sure if it's still around, but we had at least two or three threads about Memento back in the day. You should do a search...there was some pretty good stuff in those threads.

I think the original thread about the movie is gone for good, but here is a discussion on the audience/writer covenant regarding films similar to Memento

It's a shame that we lost the old thread on Memento, which was pretty engaging in itself. But the linked thread from above was a pretty good talk-through, also.

It was especially good when John Galt (John G.) of all people came to the defense of the John G. character from the movie. Suspicious stuff.
somewhat related question:
Does anyone else feel that this movie has helped fuel the number of movies that are edited out of sequence merely to make the movie seem better, rather than actually being integral to the storyline? It seems like a fair amount of movies do it just to cover up lack of excitement and/or the general averageness of the movie.

P.S. In honor of the movie, I think we should do this thread backwards, Memento-style. For example: "Vince, I can't believe you said that, stop being a jerk and apologize to BishopMVP."

You're probably right. Pulp Fuction used the technique in a completely non-essential way, while Memento pretty much couldn't have existed without it.
Overall, I think it's being used way too much these days.
Great movie, in my opinion. I don't care what the rest of my so called family says.
I've seen every second of my dvd collector edition. I bled that puppy dry while on deployment.
dola, I've never seen Pulp Fiction.

I agree for the most part with this, although I saw a movie a couple nights ago with good sequencing. If you've ever seen The Boondock Saints, they have the lead up to the action, then shift to the police inspector and sort of re-create it as he goes along. I thought it was fairly well done.
I also saw Once Upon A Time in Mexico recently, and I don't recall if it could really fall under this category, but I didn't like the sequencing as much. Johnny Depp alone was enough to make it as good as Desperado, but I didn't really like the filming style.

The funny thing is, during the Survivor game last year I kept wanting to say, "John G raped and killed my wife" during one of the threads...but I was afraid you'd never get what I was talking about.

:)I'm not a killer. I'm just someone who wanted to make things right. Can't I just let myself forget what you've told me?

Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts.

Don't listen to his lies. He is the one. Kill him.
I actually wrote that on a polaroid of a shipmate of mine onboard the Nimitz, and we kept it out so everyone could see it.

You're not a killer. That's why you're so good at it.
It must be his. I don't think they'd let someone like me carry a gun.

I wrote my final paper in Epistemology last semester on Memento and the epistemological themes in the film and their relation to some famous philosophical arguments from Hume and Nietzsche. I got an A on the paper and an A in the course so I was very proud of my paper.

Or maybe the trend began in 1950 with Sunset Boulevard:)
