I don't get this trend of firing coaches when they are mostly sucessful. He took the Nets to the Finals and while he isn't have the best season they are still in the thick of the playoff race in the woeful east. Phil Jackson didn't win a championship last year I guess the Lakers should fire him right now.

This was a long time coming. Kidd and Scott never got along and apparantly the new ownership wasn't enamoured with his skills...

Scott won't be unemployed for too long. Think how sad sports have gotten. You used to be able to build a team. Now you can get fired if you won 8 straight titles, then hit a 3 game skid... Was Byron to blame for signing Alonzo???

He doesn't deserve a job. His rotations, game plans and comments were idiotic. The only reason NJ has been successful is mostly because of Kidd.

I am just surprised they did it now.

When he didn't get an extension after going to two straight finals - that made me think.

I just want Kidd to own up now and be honest - and say - I wanted him out, etc.

I think now it just puts ALOT of pressure on Kidd and the players if they don't go back to the finals now. See if they get to the finals despite Byron Scott.

Never happen in the near term. The Nets could hire Barbara Walters as head coach and finish in front of the Knicks...

The only reason NJ has been successful is mostly because of Kidd.

The Nets are the team I have always rooted for behind my Bulls and I just have a hard time believing that. Kidd is no doubt a great talent, but is he so good that only because of him a 25 win team automatically became a back to back NBA Finals team?

If Kidd and Scott did not get along, as most people seem to believe then I don't really have a problem with the firing. I would have atleast waited until the end of the season but I can think of reasons of why doing it now would be a good idea as well.

Mostly yes. In the East he makes all the difference. Combine that with Jefferson and Kittles in place of Marbury, Kendall Gill and Johnny Newman and you are much, much better...

Scott's game management skills were severly lacking, Isiah probably did a better job in Indiana, and his rotations changed from one day to the next. Scott doesn't have the ability as a coach to make a team play any better than they really should, so I don't think he'll be rehired that quickly.

I don't think New Jersey's success is all Kidd, I do believe Eddie Jordan played a role, but not as large as the media leads you to believe. What Kidd did was make Jefferson and K-Mart very good players, revive Kerry Kittles, and raise the overall defensive effort put out by each player. In the East Kidd is as important to his team as Shaq is to the Lakers, he just changes the way the whole team plays.

Let us assume that Scott was as horrible as some contend. I still don't think the best message to send is that we will fire a coach who took us to two straight Finals and when things get a bit rough you will be gone. Coaches I think deserve a bit more repect then that and the same could be said for Solich who was fired at Nebraska.
