I've been playing FOF for a few years now and I've d/l the demo to TPF to give it a shot. The interface is really nice but I didn't have enough time to get down and dirty.

What do you guys think? Does TPF compare to the realism and depth of FOF series?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.....

This is already been discussed a ton.

There was one thread already created I think.

Keep in mind, TPF is a better game now then when a lot of the discussion was going on due to updated game patches. I enjoy TPF more due to the look of the game and better multiplayer features.

Yeah, that's more what I was looking for. An updated view of the game. Form the forum over at .400 it sounds like they're still having a few problems but the majority are enjoying the game.

Yeah, there are still a few issues, most of which will be fixed in the next patch.

Off my 3-day trial last week, my quick impressions were that, while a great first effort, TPF was not as good as FOF yet. I don't know about the multiplayer at all, I haven't played this in either. I felt the opposing GM's AI, especially when dealing with contracts, wasn't as tight. This, combined with the high number of decent undrafted FA's, meant I felt fairly confident I could get a core of 10-20 players, constantly keep them under the cap, and combine with my draft picks and plenty of signed undrafted FA's, make the playoffs each year and compete for the Super Bowl. In FOF, it seems there is a window you have to make it with each core, and then you hit cap hell and have to rebuild. In TPF, I had no trouble signing all my players to long-term contracts and still staying a comfortable 5 million or so under the cap every year. I also felt the stat engine wasn't as tight as FOF's yet. A couple examples were the high number of sacks from D-Tackles, about half the INT's being returned for touchdowns and the fact that some games my backup RB wouldn't even carry the ball once, while the starter carried 25+. The interface took an hour or so to get used to, but didn't seem to be either a plus or minus over FOF.

I realize that it is unfair to compare TPF to the 5th incarnation of FOF, and I want to stress that it was a very good game, and great first effort, but whenever you have two products on the market it lends itself to that type of analysis.

I agree that FOF is the more solid single player game (not necessarily more fun) at this point, but like you said, how could it not be?

Haven't I read that somewhere before? It seems with every patch there is a statement shortly after that says "Yeah, there are still a few issues, but most of them will be fixed in the next patch."

TPF is in pretty good shape right now, but if you sat me down and made me choose between the 2, then I would have to go with FOF at this point. TPF is a solid game at this point, but FOF is so polished at this stage its hard to compare the 2.

The current demo for TPF should give you a pretty good idea of what its about. There are some pretty promising changes coming in version 1.3 that I'm looking forward to, so its hard to say how good the game really is until then.

Immersion appears to be the chief complaint from the people who prefer TPF to FOF, but if Fido's utility really offers some great things and can get you into FOF like never before.

Unless you've heard me say it, I don't see how that's relevant.

And when I say a few problems, I mean smaller problems.

This doesn't mean it isn't true each time. For instance if there are 30 problems to start and 70% of them are fixed then there are still 9 problems... If 66% of those are fixed then there are still 3 problems... The idea being that until ALL of the problems are solved it's possible with each successive patch to solve "most" of the problems and still have some problems out there.

I'm selling FOF 2004, btw...if anyone is interested. I haven't picked it up since I bought TPF.
