I've been thinking about this for awhile. Have you ever maybe just been chillin or layin in bed surfing for something to watch and you see a movie that you've never heard of that never got any real pub that just blew you away and engrossed you. Last year I was layin in bed flipping thru the channels and I came across a movie on Bravo called Twin Falls Idaho about siamese twins, great little independant movie that has become one of my favorites. And last week I was searching for something to watch on Friday and saw a movie on HBO called Sunshine State about developers trying to take over a waterfront community that was divided by Black and White areas of town, another great little film that if not by luck, I never would of seen.

I remember having this feeling years ago with "What's Eating Gilbert Grape"

I was laying in bed one night and flicked to the channel SBS, and Australian channel that late at night plays foreign movies. Anyhow, I happened to turn it over just as a movie was starting, so I watched the movie start to finish. It was great. It was essentially about a young guy who moves in to an apartment with his girlfriend. His neighbour, and old guy across the hall, invites him in for dinner one night. When the young guy comes over, he sees that the old guy has put a manequin at the table, who the old guy keeps referring to as his wife. The young guy thinks the old man has lost it, tries to leave, but is knocked unconscious by the old man and dragged in to a chamber kind of place where the old man keeps the guy imprisoned.

The rest of the story is about the young guy trying to escape, and in the meanwhile himself going a little loopy. It was a really cool movie I just wish I could recall what it was called. I believe it was either German or French. If anyone has seen this I'd greatly appreciate it if they could share a title as I've been trying to track it down for years.

this was a while ago, and doesn't really count as a small movie, but definitely The Bounty

I was at some friends' house, and we got (allegedly) stoned out of our gourd. Someone flipped to HBO, and The Bounty was on. I hadn't really heard about it, but I was instantly mesmerized by all the tension between Blythe and Christian. Ended up just sitting transfixed through the rest of the movie, and it's still one of my favorites today.

The animated film The Iron Giant. This came out a few years ago, and I can't recommend it enough. Definitely my favorite animated movie ever.

I was flipping through channels a few weeks back and caught a glimpse of "changing lanes'. I stayed and watched the rest of the movie. I think I got dupped though.... and I've seen it on about 10 times since then.... oh well.

I think it's Barracuda (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118685/) with Jean Rochefort and Guillaume Canet, didn't see it.

"The Grifters" with John Cusak. Great scene where Cusak tries to con the barkeep in the hole-in-the-wall bar and gets some not-so-subtle payback. Kingpin was one of the best, though. Too funny.

Rent Eraserhead.

It'll "sneak up on you" at nights for months, trying to figure out why you watched it. Even years later, you might be prone to sitting up in bed at 2:00am, thinking that maybe you understood even one scene from the movie, but you're wrong, so you lie back down, but you can't fall asleep.

Or maybe it's not really like that. That could be the point, too.
