There are ten colors listed below in alphabetical order. I have randomly mixed their order and placed them in a vertical list numbered 1-10, top to bottom. The object of the game is to be the first to list them in their correct order. To obtain clues, you may ask each color any question, one at a time (one per post, and you may not post questions back to back).
1. Black
2. Blue
3. Brown
4. Gray
5. Green
6. Orange
7. Purple
8. Red
9. White
10. Yellow
Note the following:
> Each color can only see who is immediately ahead of them and behind them in line - and doesn't know what spot they are in unless it's first or last.
> The colors are divided into three groups as follows:
Cools (truth-tellers)
Blue
Green
Purple
Hots (liars)
Red
Orange
Yellow
Fickles (both)
Brown
Black
White
Gray
Are fickles consistant? Does each always either lie or tell the truth or is their answer random?

Note the following:
> Each color can only see who is ahead of them and behind them in line - and doesn't know what spot they are in unless it's first or last.
I think I bear the responsibility for this ambiguity... I think the proper wording should really be:
> Each color can only see who is immediately ahead of them and behind them in line - and doesn't know what spot they are in unless it's first or last.

I wonder if it might be wise to keep this unrevealed, and instead justtell us how many of each there are in the group?
Though conditional questions can poke through this stuff, I fear.

Are fickles consistant? Does each always either lie or tell the truth or is their answer random?
They each fluctuate predictably back and forth between true and false answers (T/F/T/F), but their initial pattern may start with either.

Heh. As me and fido work out the obvious ones.
Yo Green. Who's on your ass.
In Coffee's terms:
Purple - who's ass are you on?

And we'll just finish the Easy Obvious Ones by asking who Purple is behind.
Now for the fun questions!
Red - who's NOT in front of you?

Yellow. Are you in first?
Yes
NOTE: Keep in mind that these are both liars, and nothing they say can be trusted. They are not merely "opposite of the truth" liars.

Are they 'anything but the truth' liars? IE they cannot say something that is true, correct? Or, as I re-read your above line...is it simply that they will say whatever the hell they want at any given time?

Right, but Red is a liar, and therefore should not make truthful statements. The statement he just made is the truth - Orange is NOT in front of him.
Gray - who is in front of you?
(it alternates t/f/t/f/ lets find out if its starting on t or f)

Gray, are you in last?

A liar's answers cannot be trusted, but that doesn't mean they can't be true. The only reason you know that Red's answer was true is because of prior questioning.
Otherwise, a liar becomes a truth-teller simply by reverse wording the questions as Fido did.

I should have the right answer, I think, depending on the answer to Fido's question.
A liar's answers cannot be trusted, but that doesn't mean they can't be true. The only reason you know that Red's answer was true is because of prior questioning.
Otherwise, a liar becomes a truth-teller simply by reverse wording the questions as Fido did.
OK...so the three categories are:
Cools - answers can alwaysbe trusted
Hots - answers can never be trusted
Fickles - alternate between being a hot and a cool.

Repeat Fido's question, now that he's in truth mode. Gray, who is behind you.
THEN I'll have the answer.
