Anybody see it last night?

Jenna M (swim suit model) voluntarily left the game to be with her mother who was dying of cancer. Everybody cried when she left. At the end of the show the producers showed a little message that her mom died 8 days after her return from Survivor.

I'm glad she got back home in time. My father died of a sudden heart attack when I was 18. I didn't get to say good-by or anything.

For all the hype I heard about this being a really good episode I thought it was awful. I wasn't struck with emotion and that Home Depot build thing just didn't do it for me...

My wife and I got chills when they mentioned her mother died just eight days later.

Probst asked her how she knew her mother was getting worse since she was stranded on an island without outside communication. Her response was something to the effect of, "She's my mother - I'm her only child...I just <i>know</i>..."

Say what you will about reality tv, but that was pretty powerful stuff....

I guess if I hadn't had seen the last series when all Jenna did was complain and almost quit I would have bought in more.

Obviously she did the right thing and it was good she got back but I found myself being annoyed for some reason. I mean why was she there in the first place?

I don't watch Survivor, but I happened to see the end last night after my wife finished watching Friends (God please take me now). I'm sorry, but I've seen those reality show expose`s, and what they show you isn't what is really going on. I have no clue, but my guess is that she was receiving updates from the producers and knew the end was near, and decided to leave at that point. In fact, they probably had that set up as a condition of her coming on the show.

The way she said that her mom was getting worse, and Probst had to cover her ass by asking how she knew, and she said she felt it...I don't buy it. I think she was either getting regular updates, or they had an agreement that if her mom took a turn for the worst, they would let her know. If that's the case, and they passed that staged event off as "compelling reality TV"...that makes me sick. When they ended the show with the "her mom died 8 days later" screen, I had the feeling in my gut that I was watching a psycho/ic John Edwards show or something.

Agreed. That was pretty funny.. I just can't believe he caught that thing with his bare hands. That was quite amazing. Hatch is quite a character too at the same time.

When you start asserting that the show isn't really on an island but in a studio then I'll be concerned...

I completely agree. Even with the editing, this looked very scripted. I don't blame the producers for telling her, but I don't know why they couldn't just come out and say so.

BTW as I was watching I was saying what a wimp/quitter she was and how she was making up all the drama about her mom. Boy I felt like an idiot when they showed the note at the end.

I have no doubt that the emotion she showed was real. And that's partly why I view her statement that her mom was "getting worse" as a slip of the tongue. She was being a human being, not a reality show contestant at that point, and I think she let slip that she had gotten information since she's been on the show.

I suppose that's crass but I really don't tune in for an extended edition of general hospital...

Yah, I agree with you...it is her decision, if she wants to go, then it doesn't matter what anyone else's opinion is. I just felt like they were trying to milk some more drama out of it. As it was, she felt bad about being there, and knew she had made a bad decision, so that last thing she needs is the other contestants talking about how they would make a different decision.

I hate to be so crass about such a horrible thing and I surely wouldn't wish that on anyone.

But

1. to me she was always the most undeserving winner, a total drama queen and this just felt like more of the same - drama, pay attention to me kind of stuff (at least early on in the show with the bug bites and general whining)
2. what the hell was she thinking even going if she knew how sick her mom was, not to mention she already won once, why would she go at all. Wouldn't matter to me if I was penniless and had never been I don't understand why she would have gone at all.
3. more and more survivor feels "scripted" and less "real" - It seems to me they had to have told her something

having said all that I do feel for her and her family.

I think they always have something around for emergencies (like in Season 2 when there was a serious injury with a fire or something).

That portion was obviously scripted. They knew before they rolled she was going home since she probably told the producers. I'll bet they didn't even set up the next challenge.

How could, within the span of two minutes, several other tribe members get so emotional unless they knew what was going on prior to the "shocking" anouncement...

Her mother was in a recovery home...she took a turn for the worse after Jenna left for the island.

RK..The show is heavily edited...remeber that..so i am sure there was more than 2 minutes between when the contestants were told and when they started crying.

Dude, anyone who lasts until the end in that game, day in and day out, and despite their personality flaws (1) doesn't get booted out and (2) convinces the people that *she booted out herself* to award her a million dollars deserves to win.
