Game Keeper closes !

At the mall on saturday I noticed that Game Keeper was liquidating everything and everything had to go. I was surprised that game keeper was closing forever . While I was at the store on saturday I tried to buy Axis & allies but they were out of copies so I bought a game called Attack and the expansion for a grand total of 30 $ . Have yet to play ATTACK yet but it does look promising . All in all it was a bittersweet weekend since game keepers closed .

I was looking forward to having a Game Keeper in the mall that's opening here tomorrow because Myrtle Beach is nearly devoid of gaming stores. Shame it fell apart for them.

You also want to get the expansion for attack. Everything I hear from customers and reviewis is its not the same without it. Plus I would wait, they are doing a revamped editon of Axis and Allies sometime this fall.

I also bought Attack Expansion ....In all both cost a combined 30 $. I recently saw a preview for Axis & Allies D-day invasion. That really has me salavating .

Yeah, the D-Day game should be cool. Im excited about the new revamped Axis and Allies. They broke down some of those larger territories into smaller ones, added in Destroyers and Artillery.

Game Keeper was a store with a lot of Board games and chess/mind type of games. You can usualy find them in malls. I will always remember them as being that place that you always think is a video game store until you walk by it and say to yourself "oh yeah, it's <i>that</i> place."

Yeah, I got a Battle of Midway board game for about $20 just before they closed in Kennesaw.

Wizards of the Coast (WotC) the current holder of the DUngeons and Dragons "brand" opened up the gamekeeper shops in an attempt to make RPG's more "mainstream". They sold a bunch of board games/war games, as well as mostly their own RPG's. THis of course, failed miserably. RPG's are done best by folks who do nothing BUT RPG, and GameKeepers was too mixed.

Actually, GameKeepers existed before Wizards bought them. They were a chain of gamestores often seasonal in malls. Wizards bought them and added them to there Wizards of the Coast Stores.
I disagree that you cant mix Rpgs and boardgames. I work in a small chain that does puzzles, Rpgs, board games, kids games. They have been doing it for 20+ years.

what I'm saying is, there isn't any national chains with that ability. RPG/Board/CCG games are a very fluctuating market. What happens to be hot one week will not even be looked at two weeks later. a Local store has the flexibility to adjust to local demand. a National Chain has no such ability.

yeah, most of the stuff like that around here is sold in places like model shops, and at Shinders (a place mostly specializing in magazines, trading cards, and they have those magic cards or whatever and associated games)

True. The best stores are the small mom and pop variety. Dont get me started on RPGs and the market. Ive been managing this store for 3 years and just now feel like I have a handle on what sells. There is a lot of regional interests too. Whats popular out here is not popular in the midwest. Its a strange strange market.

Wizards of the Coast was closing out for the last two months around here, may already be closed up and gone. Keep seeing something called "World at War" by Gary Grigsby supposed to be a more in-depth Axis and Allies-type game but not out yet or taking preorders yet. Recently got a Dogfight Game off of EBay. Thinking about the Broadsides one. Have Attack but not the expansion yet.

Also, if your around the Tulsa area there is a fantastic Mom/Pop operation called 'Game Shop" in the Farm Mall, lots of good stuff I have not seen elsewhere including Old Dominion Rules for WW2/WW1/Civil War minatures.

I also noticed that RISK has gotten a facelift with a new better looking map and new figures as well .
