As many of you know, the team that the Screamin' Seamen love to hate are the Croats in Miami. We were robbed in the week 7 showdown with the Croats, as they were awarded two penalties, which they converted, giving them the 4-3 win at home.
But this past weekend was a different story. SSFC sought out vengeance for being robbed the week before, and achieved it in dramatic fashion:
43750 spectators arrived at The Docks, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Screamin' started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Jernigan - Lucas, Mcdonald, Willard - Nichols, Dufek, van de Kerkhof, Tejeda, Bösch - Lourenso, Kindner.
Croats tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Alexandersson - Clay, Firicã, Moustakis - Patrick, Guim, Pettersson, Marchese, Schofield - Loorits, Herrmann.
Croats had a good opportunity to score the lead goal but the home team goaltender Cornelius Jernigan saved George Herrmann´s shot headed for the top corner. The referee showed Screamin's Javier Tejeda the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Croats were forced to a substitution as Raimond Loorits couldn´t continue playing due to the rough treatment, forcing Duncan Nieuwdorp to come in from the sidelines. Olov Pettersson had a good try in the 26:th minute, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide. Croatss Dumitru Firicã got himself booked after a foul. In the 29:th minute Screamin's Walter Bösch received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 0. Screamin' held the ball, with a clear 52 percent possession rate.
Tinguaro Guim came close to putting the visiting team one up in the 69:th minute, following a solo raid down the middle, but Cornelius Jernigan managed to tip the ball to a corner. In the 73rd minute Fidel Lourenso almost put the home team one ahead on a cross pass coming in from the right, but the shot went wide. 78 minutes into the game Cameron Mcdonald had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Mattias Leier. Emil Kindner gave his Screamin' the lead with 1 - 0, as he successfully challenged both the guests central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the goaltenders right post. Seemingly due to lack of experience, Jaimy van de Kerkhof needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. George Herrmann of Croats was able to make an impressive rush past the sluggish Mattias Leier, which resulted in the 1 - 1 goal. Some beautiful plays on the left side of the field resulted in a 90:th minute goal by Milán Dufek for Screamin', putting them ahead 2 - 1. Screamin', bringing the final ball possession rate to 51 percent, dominated the battle.
The most dominating Screamin' player was without a doubt Tyler Willard. Walter Bösch on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Croats player was without a doubt David Alexandersson. However, Duncan Nieuwdorp made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 1.
Second-year midfielder Milan Dufek with the game-winner in the 90th minute! Huzzah! :D
We now trail C.I.M. by one point in the standings, and are exactly even in goal differential and goals scored (27-11 for both teams). Should be an interesting race.
