I am a defender trainer who always plays a 5-3-2 or 5-4-1. I have a match coming up against a side who regularly score 5 or 6 goals per match playing Attack on Wings.
How does AOW reduce or increase ratings? I assume that their left and right side attack is increased but the last team he played went with AIM and got creamed.
His midfield usually hits inadequate, but mine only gets poor ratings.
Counter attacks?

sorry. I left that part out. I am in a Cup Manager cup playing against a Scottish side called Bury Saints.
the match isn't scheduled yet because the cup manager site hasn't updated yet to let us know where the match is.

if it were me, i would try to boost your midfield you can make both your wingers "extra center defenders" and move 1 of your center defenders up as an "extra inner midfielder" instead of playing your winger "towards the middle". the only problem with that is your counter attacking may not work then because you could have the advantage midfield wise. you could always play one of your center defenders offensive if any are suited for that. also, i would play your wing backs defensive and that will boost your right and left defense stats.
AIM weakens your wing stats, so i wouldnt do that. i think i would just play with no tactics and hope for the best.
thats just my opinion. im sure someone else has a better idea.

I was thinking of pulling my wingbacks, since they are both passable defenders, putting my best defenders at wingback, defensive, like you said.
My midfield never gets higher ratings than poor, so even if it goes to weak, I will probably still be alright with CA since his hits inadequate every time he plays AOW. With my luck, he'll go normal.
Thanks for the advice.

your right, still counter attack. i had my denomitions wrong. i always get poor and weak backwards. yeah, you will probably still not pull a inad then, so go with a counter attack still.

It has no effect on attack ratings, it only tends to redistribute attacks that would have gone central to the wings.
If your opponent likes AOW, then s/he presumably will have strong wing attacks, and you may want to make sure your wing defense is adequately reinforced, possibly even playing a central defender towards the wing (something that's pretty rare to do, but if you play five defenders I would guess you'll be able to afford it).

I'd play CS 5-3-2 in this situation. Have your two CD's play towards the wing. Have the WB's set as defencive. Have your IM's play Offencive. Have a winger play as an extra CD, and have the other winger play as an extra foward. Have one foward slot set as an extra IM. Normal orders for the remaining foward.
Your not going to win with a 5-4-1 I think. All that would do is help your midfield but I seriously debate your ability to score with only one foward, possibly a winger-- This IS a friendly and I don't expect your going to play a winger with lots of PM. ...So not enough help from the winger IMO.

Oh hells yes.
Playing defensive wingers and a 5-3-2 Counter Attack worked. Feast your hungry eyes on this.

Actually it was just the 5-3-2 that worked. None of your goals were from a CA event. And it doesnt even appear that you had a CA event.
But congratulations none the less! :)
