View Full Version : Newbie's gone Wild: Watertown United

Well... I was going wild waiting for my team, and they've finally arrived.

After reading a ton the last week on the forums I gutted some deadweight, grabed a couple keepers on the cheap and a few decent midfield prospects.

Signed a decent coach for training midfielders, switched to a 4-5-1 and I think I'm ready to go.

Please let me know what you think. Is this a solid enough foundation to start with?

Thanks guys.

PS I have a few decent players on the TL to raide funds, they're pretty cheap (and pickens, payne and yang could be pretty good to the right team)

Francis Arsenault - needs to go
Lester Roberts - could be your leader
Johann Richter - don't need 3 keepers, needs to go
Kenneth Qualls - to old, deadweight
Edwin Yang - could've been your set piece guy

With only 2 weeks left in season, I would train stamina, then playmaking at start of next season. Your players will take a form hit, but with playing time, will improve.

Possible line-up:

Keeper: Dumas, better leadership
CD: Pickens and Payne would've been good here,
Mulligan and Barato are doable.
WB: Price and Chandler
Wingers: Oglesby and Valencia
Midfield: Mayberry, Valstar, and either Gurzynski or Hußlein
Forward: Gallardo

Niemi and either Gurzinski or Hußlein should rotate in at midfield.
You'll need to find maybe a couple better trainees though, after 19 years, they become to old to train in some players opinions.

I would keep three keepers myself. A string of bad luck could see both of them knocked out, of course some would say to just buy one at that point in time, but I guess im just too lazy for that.

Thanks Tucker... I just moved Arsenault this morning... I actualy got a grand for him! I'm just starting to kick the tires on this game...

hurting on the cash right now.. but i figure in a couple of weeks I'll try to find (pull?) a couple of good 17YR prospect.. right now they're too expensive for me though. (built up my stauium and I'm slightly in the red)

1 question on Stamina though.. would it be better to just keep training Playmaking, hoping my 18yrs pop (and then I can move them for $). How important is stamina (and is it worth the 2 weeks If I really don't expect my team to win this year).

Thanks Again guys.. starting to figure this out.. this game rocks

PS Marmel, Watertown is right outside of Boston

Incidentally, my sister just took a job in Watertown (and I was tooling around there today checking out the building).

Stamina helps players from getting tired, plus your middies need it a whole lot than other positions.

Wingers- at least passable, solid if they play toward middle
Wingbacks- at least inadequate to passable, solid if they play toward the middle
Central defenders- at least inadequate, passable is better
Midfield- solid is good enough, excellent or formidable is best
Forwards- passable is sufficient
Keepers- doesn't matter, don't need stamina, but some in my opinion

Train stamina, at least 2 weeks, everybody will get some, then offseason start on playmaking.
If your team doesn't have any qualification matches after the season,
schedule a friendly, preferably at home, (come by FOFC to see if anyone is looking) and play your trainees.

After your team gets sufficient stamina, you can concentrate on PM training next season.

I disagree, after my 2 keepers got injured, I purchased an inad one for $1k (quite easily found on the market).

It also heavily depends on your cash resources. When my main trainee went down earlier this season I was too much in debt to even buy an inadequate for 1k and ended up with only one keeper getting training that week. Now I tend to keep 3, on the outside chance one goes down. Though right now I'm bidding on an inad keeper clown to be my third.

Thanks guys.. made the shift to stamina as perfect form wouldn't help my pathetic team right now :)

another newbie question. Will stamina fall during the year when I switch back to PM training or are my players going to hold on to the Stamina gains throughout the season?

This game is awesome.. I can't wait until my team is good :)

no, unless stamina gets above to formidable it may fall back to excellent, i think.

part 2: It won't take long before your team will be good relative to the others in your series...

again, welcome to HT.

The only time I've ever seen stamina drop is while I'm training stamina, and only if the guy had Formidable stamina before the training update. Then it drops back down to excellent.
