He'll turn into a pile of sawdust if he ever gets hurt, but he only has to stay healthy for one game... paid $204K. I'm throwing away everything I know about long-term team management, but I want to win that qualifier so damn bad...

If you win the qualifier, it's a good buy :)
EDIT - Eh, I'm really not sure of the market for Excellent PM-ers, and now that I think of it, I don't think 204k is high at all. But like I said, I know nothing :)

i think its a really, really good price (if you dont consider his age) which you dont have to since you only need him for 1 game. a 33 year old will more than likely drop a skill or two over the next year though. i think excellents in their 20s are usually around 325k-500k depending on the time of year.

Depends on secondaries. Passing seems to have increased value a lot in recent weeks. I briefly thought about trying to find an excellent with inad+ passing and those in their low to mid 20's were going for well over 500k. I saw one with solid sp's go for over 750k. Then again, saw a 27yo with inad experience go for 480k, wish I had had the money to compete for him, but oh well.

yeah, i just looked at the excellent playmakers i bought earlier this year. i was thinking wrong apparently. i got 2 excellent playmakers/stanima with inad passing and power speciality. i paid 400k for the 21 year old and 475k for the 25 year old. sorry

That seems like a pretty good price. If the new changes still allow you to trade him in the next couple of weeks, you might want to try and resell him for $300K once prize money comes in and even turn a little profit on him. I think it's a steal for an exc stam/exc pm with pass experience but you do have to take his age into account and that just makes him a bargain.

I like it! Good combination of the kind of performance you should get out of him versus what you paid. As for *how good*, I just usually go by whatever sterling says. Heh. The fact that you only really need or want him for the qualifier just makes the additional games you get out of him (i.e., before he breaks) a bonus.
Plus, you can't beat having a dude on your team name "de Beer".
As an aside, there's a team call the Ocelots in IV.52. Everytime I see their name, I do a double-take thinking it's your team.

This is a great buy! He will play better than a younger PM because of his passable experience. That makes a huge difference. It shouldn't hurt your team long term because you can sell him back right after the match. Even if you don't get all your money back, just consider it a rental price.
The only thing I would caution against is buying a guy this old before the training update. There's a god chance that he will drop in some of his skills before the match. He should still be good enough with that passable experience to make a difference in your qualification match.

Players drop skills on monday, not on the training update.
I agree that's a good buy. Especially if he's replacing someone with less stamina or passable PM. I got a similar player (less exp, 26, only 2ndary above poor was set pieces) for around 230k, and I was ecstatic (still am). :)

The name is nice, yes. Mmmmm.... Belgian beer.... :D
And you just inspired me to stop by SimSports for the first time in a long time. The Ocelots are now the Platypus. Milwaukee just gets less and less intimidatingly-named... ;)

Indeed. And Green Bay is now the Sandbags while Yuma is now the Kitty Kats. It's a quite terribly strange. Heh.

I think its a good buy. I was in the market for Exc/Exc MF with Inadequate or better passing recently because Passable Passing was beyond my means. I picked up a 23 year old for $519,000 in a fierce bidding war. Most everybody else I tracked had gone for 600 or so.

Nice buy, OG. Awesome part of buying an inner midfielder with excellent stamina already is you're able to train set piece both weeks in the offseason.

Thanks. I forgot, he's not Excellent stamina. He's Formidable.
Anyone know how long that lasts? I've read where it lasts until you train stamina again, and don't ever plan on doing that while I train keepers.

I haven't seen it dropped by itself so I'm going with the "until next time you train stamina". In the case of an older player (30+), it's probably possible for that to drop but that's not really a concern for your guy.

Now that you mention it, the only times I've seen one of my players drop from formidable to excellent was at a training up where I'd done stamina. BUT, it's not like "until next time you train stamina" really, as I've seen many players retain their formidable stamina, despite my team doing stamina training. There's gotta be some random thing behind it...

good news then. Hopefully he'll hang on to Formidable for the season or two he'll be a first choice/key sub.

That is a really good buy. Maybe he drops, maybe he doesn't, but I've had a guy who'll be 37 next season and none of his skills have ever dropped since I got him two seasons ago. The truth is that no one can say for sure, and there are decent odds you'll be able to keep using him for seasons to come.

What seems to be the age where, if someone's hurt, he'll never recover no matter how many doctors you hire? That's what I'd be more concerned about. I'm still leaning towards putting him back on the wire after Sunday.
