A friend of mine at the station is a big Tool fan. Anyhow he brought A Perfect Circle's "Thirteenth Step" to work. This CD has really grown on me, I think it is really really good and I have been listening to it a lot over the last couple of weeks.
For me it is pretty left field because this isn't my usual cup of tea. I love Rush to death, old school rock and some other progressive rock.
Anyways, I ended up buying this CD and Mer De Noms. Good stuff.

So it's similar to Tool?

The singer is the same guy from Tool, but the songs are more straight forward, pretty different actually.
I don't think Tool is bad, I just never got into them much.

I never liked Tool that much either. Can't explain it, because I should like them considering my tastes. I own one of their albums, but I just couldn't get into it.

Edit: I'm apparently blind because I didn't see you already got Mer Der Noms. Good choice. I'll slink away now. ;)

Are these CDs new releases?

13th Step is pretty recent, within the last year.
Mer Der Noms was their first CD and is a couple years old now.

If you go to "music" you can listen to a few songs from each album.

For whatever reason, I've outgrown Tool and APF. I own all of their albums, and as sachmo said, considering my tastes, these should be two of my favorite bands. But, I've lost interest in Tool and haven't listened to APF much after the first week I bought the CDs.
I really can't explain it, either. I'll occasionally fire up Opiate to listen to Hush, or Aenima for Hooker With a Penis and the title track, or even Undertow to listen to the carrot sermon, but aside from those always entertaining "rant" songs, I've just lost interest in Tool. I think maybe it's because they fall somewhere between power pop and riff-heavy rock/metal, which is what I'm into these days. The songs aren't catchy enough, or there's not enough riffing going on. Best explanation I can find.

I love APC's 13th Step!!
I loved their first one, too, but it was in my big book of 200ish CD's that was ripped off from my house about 2 years ago.
I miss a lot of my cd's.

Thieves broke into my car a few years ago but only stole one CD out of the 20 or so that were in there. I didn't know whether to be relieved or insulted.

That's funny. I'd be insulted. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I think that was when I realized that I was old.

What CD did they steal, and what did they leave? With that info, I can tell you whether you should be insulted or not...

I'm a huge Tool and APF fan. I haven't listened to them recently, mainly because I have all of their songs memorized and can "call them up" as wanted. Their songs aren't really catchy at all. You'll either love them right away or they just won't click with you at all.
