You can usually get into the games for a couple bucks. The league really doesn't want to have their televised games shown with empty seats. Most don't understand the rules and go to cheer the local players on the teams.

Some of the guys I knew ran into Jerome Bettis and Eddie George at one of the games, in the stands "promoting" the league (noone had a clue who they were). My friends said they were pretty cool and willing to talk to anyone, they said they were just standing around and noone was talking to them.

I do know several Germans that know football pretty well, its just that the games felt more like a social gathering than a sporting event.

How long ago was that? I'm just asking out of curiosity. I don't doubt your experiences and it's what I'd expect, but it looks like interest may be picking up a bit lately. :)

Interest may have picked up, that was actually the first thing I thought of, I'm just skeptical. Last game I saw was for the 2001 season. So its been a couple of years.

I've been to 5 Amsterdam Admirals games and the 2001 World Bowl over the past 4 years, including a game just 6 days ago.

In Amsterdam, the reason why it's so not-soldout is because only people understanding football go to the games.
A stadium designed for 52,000.
The NFL didn't want to show empty seats and thus the cheap second ring had to go off (figure of speech of course) and attandance has immediatly dropped from 15K to 10K per game and they still can't get past 60% sold-out.
20 Euro (25 US dollars) for sideline seats, second ring used to be 10 Euro.


On the Jerome Bettis and Eddie George statement:
When a sport is hardloy covered abroad, it's hard for a fan to figure out what players look like, especially when they normally wear a helmet. Even the Vick's, Manning's, Strahan's and Sapp's of this world could go unnoticed.
