Bad memories of junior high. The puny 7th graders, including myself, were teamed with the almost-as-puny 8th graders against the monster 9th graders in dodge ball. All I remember (besides cowering against the bleachers) was this behemoth 9th grade dude hitting the back wall so hard it sounded like a bomb going off.

I remember a game of pinball (dodgeball with 3 bowling pins you gotta defend) where if you catch a ball you eliminate the thrower. I won a match where i was outnumbered 12-1 By holding off them from knocking down 1 pin for 15 minutes and got lucky by faking out a guy guarding their last pin by faking a throw at his head to get him to dive outta the way :)

its like one of my greatest memories in pe history heh :)

From what I hear about dodgeball leagues, it's a standard rule. I do agree with you, though. Kickballs don't hurt much. Now taking an indoor soccer ball to the fact, that hurts! :)

I don't even think these are kickballs. They look like soft, "foamy" (but semi-dense) balls. I'm hoping that rule will just kind of get ignored.

I have to admit that I am facinated by this sport. I was interested in going to see the movie, as I am a big Stiller fan. Next thing I know, my wife is telling me about how there is now a league that started up at a local hangout that has grown into a number of teams.

It's dodgeball! It's not a sport!

I'm not sure whether I liked it or not. I don't really like the "theme team" idea either, but I guess it was decent. I can't see myself tuning in to this program every week, though. I mean, what are the chances that I'll be sitting around on Tuesday night thinking "I've gotta watch that dodgeball show"?

I remember one gym teacher that we had from 6th to 8th grade had us play a wierd version of dodgeball. There would be a circle of players around the outside with a pack of players inside. If you got hit while inside, you were out. If you caught a ball, the one who threw it was out and you got to move to the outside ring. If a throw missed everything, the thrower had to move to the inside. Add the fact that he used three kickballs and it always looked like the St. Valentines day masacre at the beginning while the inside pack was still large enough for easy pickings.

The question must be asked. When is the Red Rover league going to start up? I guess it might be difficult for the mimes to call out, "Red Rover, Red Rover, we call 'that fat hairy guy' over."

My law school roommate and I used to play "guard the window," which was a game we made up where one of us stood in front of the sliding glass window leading out to the porch, and the other person threw a football as hard as he could trying to break the window. Basically, we got bored simply playing catch in the house. :)

Great game, though. We never suffered a broken window, although we did make the mistake of letting a friend who was not sports-coordinated play, and his lack of catching ability almost cost us a ton of money.

Poor production value, though. When the "reset target" (or whatever it's called is lit), I think the strobe lights flashing were a singularly bad idea.

And Jerry is a waste of time.
