Bingo. Two down. I was aiming for something a little more obscure than saying "Henry, the Professor" but you picked it up pretty quick.

Buzzbee goes three for three on Oregon, Idaho, and Iowa.
Raven Hawk is right on Arkansas.
henry and bad-example miss. (Alaska is still not the right answer.)
I admit I was scraping around a bit on Idaho. I thought of more tasteless ways to do it, but passed.

"Bill's Television" would be a good clue for Pennsylvania...

Huckleberry finally relieves everyone of the burden of 19. The Neva River flows through St. Petersburg, so it's "Neva-Da". The St. Petersburg piece of the clue was crucial there, as it was more specific than Russia as a whole.
Raven Hawk misses and Alf misses by default.

I've decided to release some hints:
12) Something a bulldog says (capitalize a word)
16) Illinois town's landward boundary (a city in Egypt) North Carolina
18) Paging Stewart (a hunter had done this but has stopped now)
24) Lost a pirate somewhere (pirate sounds)
25) Bishop's comment about mushrooms (clouds)

I guess that would make it North Carolina.

ohhhh. I knew the mississippi was to the west. That's why I went with kentucky. I didn't realize there was a river locking it up in 3 directions. We got there slowly on that one, but I think(hope!) that we're there now.
sterlingice
06-18-2004, 03:46 PM
He hasn't said it, but if it's not South Carolina, well, that only leaves one of them ;)
So, time to start on another:
24) Lost a pirate somewhere (pirate sounds)
ARRRR?
EDIT: I'd be tempted to say this was Oregon (ARR + Gone) but that's already been used.
SI
Wolfpack
06-18-2004, 04:12 PM
Yes, it is North Carolina. I threw in the landward thing to make it specific to NC. Since it is surrounded on three sides by water, riverine boundary wouldn't work, thogh I don't know that many people knew it was bounded on three sides and not just the southern side.
As for the last guess, sterling's picked up the hint and no, it's not Oregon. Now it becomes interesting to see if anyone can deduce the correct state from there.

Wolfpack
06-20-2004, 08:48 PM
I guess not. So, I'll reveal the remaining ones:
12) Something a bulldog says (capitalize a word)
*Here, capitalize "bulldog", so it becomes Georgia Bulldogs. What do Bulldog fans think of Georgia Tech? "Tech sucks."-->Texas
18) Paging Stewart (a hunter had done this but has stopped now)
The hunter in question is Rachel Hunter. She is paging former husband rod. Paging can be "calling" so, here Rachel is "calling Rod."-->Colorado
24) Lost a pirate somewhere (pirate sounds)
*SI got the hint about the pirate sound ("Arr"). A state starts with the pirate sound, "Arr"-kansas. Lose the pirate and you are left with-->Kansas.
25) Bishop's comment about mushrooms (clouds)
*This was a reference to the movie "Aliens" (which coincidentally was on TNT this weekend). Obviously, if you are familiar at all with the Alien movies, you'd know of a character named Bishop, an android. Towards the end of the movie as the human station on the planet surface is about to explode, he describes the mushroom cloud's eventual size from the coming explosion. It was going to be the size of-->Nebraska.
Thanks to everyone who participated and indulged my creative efforts.
