LOL. Thanks for the Laugh. There have been numerous posts by Giants fans acknowledging the Dodger's long term success. :)

Well, the Giants franchise actually has more championships. And more hall of famers than anyone, even the Yanks. Two of the top five position players of all time are Giants.
At the very least the "most storied" distinction is debatable.

I would probably put the Dodgers slightly ahead of the Giants before Barry started hitting 70 dingers per season. Now I am just not sure, although Gagne is also pretty cool.
Giants may have 2 of the top five position players in MLB history, but the Dodgers have Jackie Robinson, the single most important pro athlete (any sport) in U.S. history.
I vote Dodgers b/c I really hated that 'Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Baby" promotion by the Giants when Roger Craig was managing.

Why does everyone have problems hating the Yankee's? I'm not a fan of them, but I don't hate them. I can think of at least a dozen teams in other sports I dislike more.

I can't stand the Dodgers (1988) but to be honest, but this weekend is the exception because there is only one team I hate more than the Dodgers, the Yankees.

Giants fan: The Giants have finished ahead of the Dodgers 7 years in a row.
Dodgers fan: That is just the last 7 years. We have won more championships.
Giants fan: That is just since the teams moved. The Giants have more titles overall.
Dodger fan: Anything that happened before the teams moved is irrelevant.

Are you a conscientious, baseball-loving A's fan who can hold up your end of a rivalry without becoming a total jerk? The opposite of that was mrskippy, who was badmouthing the Angels minutes after they won the 2002 championship, among other notable indiscretions.
As an Angels fan, it would be fun for me to have someone to talk AL West smack with that wasn't as infuriating as mrskippy, or as maddening as dawgfan (the resident M's fan, you have met him, no?). :)

My point is that you are quick to dismiss the last 7 years as unimportant in the larger picture, yet are unwilling to include the entire franchise histories when comparing the teams.

I have 5th row tickets to the Dodger-Giants game on the 30th of June. It happens to be my 22nd Birthday no less. Wish I could have gotten the front row seats, but not this year. I'm 6-0 on my birthday in years past. This should be 7 *knocks on wood*

Well, funny story actually. As you know, the Angels and A's had never really been good at the same time so I never had anything against the Angels. Well, obviously, about 3 years ago, our rivalry has really grown since both of our teams are very good and each is consistently competing for the West crown. So lets just say I have a growing dislike for the Angels now! hehe. I'd totally be down to discuss the west with you without the animosity you've received in the past.

MrBug- I think his point is that you get all pissy when you want to limit the discussion to a certain amount of years, so he just goes ahead and includes every season in baseball history to appease you, then you get all pissy that there isn't a limit set on when the team moved.

I'd say its the West Coast's best HISTORICAL rivalry, but as far as two teams being good at the same time, I'd have to think the A's Angels is gaining alot of steam since the Dodgers have been so bad for the last decade (until this year).

I have to agree, but I am biased. I know as an Angel fan, I worry a lot more about the A's than any other team.
On a historical basis, strangely enough, I have more antipathy with the Mariners, because of the '95 season, and, really, because I just don't like too many of their fans. :)
But it's fun to be a rival against the A's, because I have a lot of respect for a team that can maintain competitiveness under the financial problems they have had. Now if only Oakland would build them a proper stadium instead of that piece of crap they play in now. :)

You are my hero! If we could just gain more momentum from fans outside of A's fans, maybe we could get something in the works. I know every single A's fan agrees we need a new stadium, but the word just hasn't spread enough around the league how crappy Networks Associates Coliseum (it will always be "the Coliseum" to me) really is. Plus, it doesn't help that Oakland is very poor and to build a new stadium we'd probably have to move to San Jose. To be honest, I wouldn't mind the move to SJ, but the Giants seem to block any offer we make with that city citing that we would be taking away Giant fans

seriously, after your post on DKBL, it spurred me to look up different revenue numbers for teams and man, there is some huge disparities. I'm totally with you with evening it out alittle bit. plus, it seems as though the national TV revenue (at the very least) should be equalized amongst all teams.

Actually the Giants have been in 2 cities New York and SF. When you say "Giants," you include those years on the eastcoast. But I don't really care what you think, you're a Dodgers fan AND a Lakers fan. Oh by the way, great prediction with the Lakers winning it all buddy. Hey at least you get to look forward to the Dodgers season. And when they choke in August, you get to look forward to the LA Rams season, oh wait, the Raiders...err nevermind. I guess you'll just have to wait until the Lakers start playing again and not win a championship again.

Aw.. a baseball thread with everything:
The East Costers being egotistical jackasses
The West Coasters and their cute baseball rivalry that always just sounds like a sissy slap fight
And one comment from flyover territory (Radii's "Go Cubs") where more baseball is actually played in this country

Smarty Jones has a better chance at winning the Triple Crown than the Pistons have of winning the series.
This was after Smarty Jones lost, people.
Hopefully the Pistons don't turn out to play like philly did. The Lakers are a great team and I wouldn't be surprised if they win 3 in a row.
