View Full Version : Considering a fairly drastic change...

Well, US participation in the u20 WC has come to an end, and with it, TP has elevated some players to the u20 team and unfortunately Dix wasn't one of them.

So. I have this stud GK. The quandry...do I keep training him and hope Clair Romano gets injured? Or do I keep him and switch training to PM or something else infinitely more useful to my squad. Either way, he's staying with my team. He's young, talented, and one day he'll be a coach. Financially, it makes no sense to keep him and keep training GK since I don't expect him to be on the u20...and I don't want to part with him.

Any thoughts?

Burn TP at the stake.

Nah, Romano is being coaced with an excellent coach, while I've only got a solid. I think Romano is a full level ahead of Dix if not more, by now, even if his form has been in the shitter of late. I'd never burn TP at the stake.

Dixon never had a chance to get on the team at this point. I was only going to add one 18 year old keeper. For the most part I picked enough 19 year olds to fill a starting lineup, and an 18 year old backup at each position. Dix likely wouldn't even be considered until after qualifications are over and the team is filled with players his age.

Burn TP at the stake anyway. Even if his point about Dixon and the U20 team is most likely correct.

Do it for fun. :D

I third the burning of TP at the stake ("for no raisin"). I think we should start a poll about it :D

I really don't like him for not picking any of my players. Never mind that I don't have an American under 20 worth a damn. :)

Depending on what your situation is, I'd keep training Dixon until your satisfied with his level. If you plan on keeping him around for a coach, train him up to a point that would be worthwhile to keep for 7 or more seasons. I'd say somewhere in the titanic-mythical area. Then sell your backup and switch your training. Now that keepers are so cheap . . . :)

Keeper wages are cheap. Keepers are still expensive ;)

He's WC+2 right now, so he's good enough that I wouldn't have to worry about him for awhile.

Brx had given me a different impression about his u20 potential, mostly based on form and Romano injuries. I knew it wouldn't happen until next season (24) at the earliest, but any which way. I think I'm switching training. Now to find me some trainees. :D

Well, I leave here to go sign onto HT and what do I have in my HT-mailbox, but this from brxnivy:

-------------------------------
I know you have been debating selling Dixon in the past, but I hope you keep training him. I just wanted to let you know that if I am elected U20 coach I plan to add 1 more 18yo keeper to the squad, and at this point it would be Dixon. He would probably not play much during qualifications, but he would be the backup to Romano during the actual WC run, and would more than likely see some time due to injuries or bad form to Romano. Please let me know what you plan to do.
------------------------------------

FYI, now the plan is to stick with training Dix until the next u20 WC is over, at which point he should be divine anyway. Then he'll hang around with my squad as I become a PM or scoring trainer. ;)

Even if he doesn't ever get a real u20 shot, I know he's up there in potential, so I'll keep him in training, in case of injury...
