I am attending a workshop designed to get more females into math/science/engineering (I teach math in high school). We have to 'interview an engineer' as we will be doing the first day at Texas Instruments.

If someone could please fill out the following, either here or in a PM, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Engineer's Name
Job Title
Company/Organization
Academic Background
BS degree
University
Field of Engineering

Graduate Studies
Degree
University
Field of Engineering

How became interested in engineering
Career Path
Career Goals
Other Information
What would a day be like without engineers
Thanks again, and no need to be any more specific than you are comfortable with.

Engineer's Name : Smokey Jones
Job Title: Engineer (of course!)
Company/Organization: Chemical Coast Secondary Track
Academic Background
BS degree

Field of Engineering: check

Field of Engineering: check
How became interested in engineering:
I guess it all started when one day I saw a model train set in the window of Macy's. Ever since then my love of trains grew stronger each day. The rails, the smoke, the freight...it's all makes up the best thing in the world, trains!
Career Path:
Started out building model trains. From there I rode many, many trains. One day the engineer on our train became ill and I stood in. It all came so natural.
Career Goals:
One day I'd like to acually become a train.
Other Information:
I play Railroad Tycoon
What would a day be like without engineers:
It would be dangerous...all those trains just travelling aimlessly.

"Thank god for model trains. If they didn't have them, they would have never gotten the idea for big trains."

Now that we have the smart-ass-useless post out of the way (not that I'm not in favor of those, occasionally)...

...bump for the late crowd.

almighty, I'm a graduate student in aerospace engineering, though I'm not planning on sticking in it (planning on going to medical school and then doing orthopaedics and biomechanical engineering). Also, my undergraduate degree is a BS in physics. Oh yeah, I'm also female.

I don't really see how that "survey" would encourage girls to go into math/science/engineering. Here at University of Maryland there are a couple of programs for getting girls interested by giving them opportunities to work with some of the students and profs here and do real science and engineering. It's a summer-camp type thing.

Anyway, if you have specific questions please feel free to drop me a PM or email kristin AT ssl.umd.edu (replace the obvious).
