View Full Version : Interest in an IHOF-based Fantasy Football League?
Kodos

Hey guys. There's been some talk over at IHOF about possibly starting a fantasy football league based on IHOF. I'm not interested in running it (and frankly, others would probably be better at figuring out how to run one with a minimum of effort). I just thought I would try to get a gauge on the level of interest in such a beast here at FOFC. Fire away.
Just call me the great facilitator...
Here's a link to the IHOF forums. (http://www.fof-ihof.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=2)
Here's a thread discussing a fantasy league. (http://www.fof-ihof.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1631)

specifically, we were thinking something simple. Pick one roster and run with it all year, for simplicitys sake.

I'll have enough trouble keeping up with my real life FF team, but it's a cool idea.

Obviously Brent Peterman would be the #1 overall pick, he is the highest rated QB in current AND future potential! (don't mind his stats so far, he started picking it up last week)

So much for being a f*cking elitist...
I guess people are not interested in ever joining the IHOF and don't see that this would be the #2 opportunity to get in touch early on...

bump.
I guess not much interest?
I'm in as long as someone else drafts and runs the team for me. :D

OK. I gotta say it. It needs to be said.
When I first found The Sideline I thought to myself, "Cool, a bunch of guys interested in sports who can be just as geeky as me."
In my years of being here, there have now been three incidents of what even I would consider complete, off-the-charts geekiness. ;)
1. "SkyDog, wig is screwing up our cartoon character draft!!!" (Yes, someone PM'ed me this. Thankfully for my opinion of that person, I don't remember who it was. :p)
2. "How much should I pay for the statue of a Balrog?" (I showed my wife the link to this thread, and the interest it generated. She passed the link on to several of her girlfriends. It is still a running joke among her and her friends.)
and now:
3. The suggestion of starting a fantasy football league based on a fictional geeky game.
Sometimes my wife is a bit concerned that I hang out here. As she put it once: "Sometimes I think that message board validates you too much. It makes you think you're normal!" :D
All that being said, we can all rest well tonight, secure in the knowledge that NONE OF US ARE AS GEEKY AS THAT "LIGHTNING BOLT" GUY!!!! :D :D :D

SkyDog, this isn't even the first FOF Fantasty football league. Didn't the FFFL run for a while?
At least it's not "ground-breaking" geekiness. :p
2. "How much should I pay for the statue of a Balrog?" (I showed my wife the link to this thread, and the interest it generated. She passed the link on to several of her girlfriends. It is still a running joke among her and her friends.)Uh oh. If I remember correctly, I posted in that thread...

So yeah, dawgfan, how's the Balrog statue market these days anyway? ;)
Of course this implies some kind of latent (or not-so-latent) bias against LOTR-based collectibles. Were we to substitute, say, "statue of UGa" I'm sure the tune would be different. Not to mention patriotic undies.

If I said that I thought this was a neat idea, am I branded with geekiness?
If so, I wear that brand with HONOR!!!!!!!!

I'm as big a LOTR fan as the next guy. (I showed all three movies back-to-back-to-back on the Colorado bus ride.) Your comparison, though, just doesn't hold up. When it comes to geekiness, a statue of a character from a fantasy/adventure movie *always* trumps a statue of a college football mascot. :D

Statue of fantasy character = geeky (extreme geeky even).
Statue of college football mascot = just plain loser

WSUCougar

I think bobbleheads increase geekiness exponentially. If you have a Balrog statue, that might rate a fiver on the Geek Scale. But a BOBBLEHEAD Balrog...well now, that's 5 squared, for a grand total of 25. YIKES.

I must be playing the wrong fantasy leagues. Somehow every league I've been in doesn't use completion %.
Be sure to email yahoo, exit 42, espn, fox sports, hillbilly jim, and everyone else that runs a fantasy football league and tell them that they now have to use completion %

good point. He's 12th in the league in touchdown passes, so I guess that is what makes him a real value.

Ever notice how it's kinda hard to argue with yourself? Me too
As you should know, cthomer has a hardon about trying to argue over any little thing I say. But w/e, I must have missed him attacking my comment which had nothing to do with him which started this.

I somehow replaced "MIJB" with "me", how dumb of me...
Additional Text for the edit:
Reading the replies so far, I guess there is very little interest in an IHOF based fantasy football league.
