View Full Version : more hold 'em: I can't believe players are this bad.

nope, this isn't a bad beat story.

I just made the jump from regularly playing 2/4 to 3/6 limit last week....

why the hell did I wait so long?

People will call with nothing, re-raise with nothing, call a 3-bet cold with 4-7 suited (yes, I had this happen).

I've made more money since saturday afternoon than I'd made in the prior month.

Just serioulsy unbelieveable, head-scratching moves by players on almost every hand.

Everytime I drag down a pot only to find someone called me down with some absurd long-shot hand, my favorite Mike Caro quote comes to mind:

"If they're helpless and they can't defend themselves, you're in the right game."

That sounds like how I'm going to be playing once GE manages to get me on-line...

Woohoo! I decided to finally make the jump from $1/2 to $2/4 at PokerStars tonight. And you're right. I don't know what I was worrying about. The money here is unbelievable. I can't wait til I increase my bankroll to move to $3/6.

I'm beginning to sound like a late-night infomercial...

On the rare occasions that I play ring games, I'm still playing on $.25/$.50 at UltimateBet. :(

If you deposit there my name is TedJ. I can always use a referral bonus, lol. Pacific poker isnt too bad anyways, lotta loose play. The software is probably the worst though. I have gotten used to it, but it can be kinda strange.

oh yeah, plus they have a pretty nice first time deposit bonus at pacific, I think 20 or 30, and it goes straight into your account too.

Going back to the original "what the hell was this guy thinking?" theme, I just had my own experience.

I sat down with $20 at the $1/2 table at pokerstars for a quick little poker fix. After about 20 minutes Im holding steady with my original $20. One player leaves and a new player(lets call him player A) sits down at out 6 seat table. He starts with $20 and quickly wins a pot to get his total around $30. He then proceeds to raise and reraise on every single turn. This goes on for about seven hands as I just sat back in awe. Finally I get a decent hand, K 10, and pay to see the flop. Its a rainbow K 10 5. Nice. A 3rd person(player B) joins us and continues the raise fest that player A started. Anyway I ended up all-in after 4th street and the other 2 continued their comparing of penis sizes by reraising each other after the river.

I ended with the top hand with 2 pair and took my portion of the pot, $42, then gladly left. More than doubling my money on one hand. Player B took the side pot of $10 or $12. Player A was left with $2, losing about $30 in all of 5 minutes. Impressive.

I should have posted a hand history from earlier today. A guy called a 3-bet cold pre-flop with 32suited.

I was the first raiser with JJ, and I don't recall what the re-raiser showed down. Like 7 people see the flop, which comes:

3 J 2

He ended up rivering a full house and won a pretty big pot over me and another guy. I was just blown away that he put in 9 dollars pre-flop with 32. I'll keep an eye out for him in the future.

Man it is great when you can reach in and make a score like that when someone is playing that way. I seem to pick those times to get the worst run of trash cards I can imagine. I did want to point one thing out to you, though. It is an often overlooked part of playing the best poker you can. You did not bring enough to the table. This is ok if you only had $20 in your account or something, but if you simply must bring enough money for this type of situation. Imagine if you had lost even $10 during your session up to that point (a not unimaginable occurence, of course). When this hand and situation came up, you would have only $10 at the table and your KT pot just got destroyed. Even what you had at the table you did not maximize what you could have won since you ran out of money before the end of the hand. This is a great illustration of why I always bring way too much money to a table. You never want to be all-in in a limit game.

By the way, there is a freeroll on InterPoker that has $3000 cash prize.

Let me know if anyone else is in it, we can either start a thread here or a AIM chat room.

He rivered a full house? What card could have come that would have given him a better full house than you? (hint: not a 3 or 2)

EDIT - point is, he is drawing dead to runner runner QUADS

He would have had oto have got a 3 or a 2 on the turn and then a Jack on the river.

I know, but I am still learning. Besides playing a little at PartyPoker a few months ago, this last week is the first time I have been playing heavily online.

I tend to get a little frustrated at times when Im having a bad run. In order to work on that I have been starting out with less money than I would normally. Usually around $20 at the $.50/1, $30 at the $1/2, and $50 at the $2/4 tables. My biggest problem has been not knowing when to get up and leave and this is the best solution I have come up with.

This particular time I just brought $20 because I only had 30 minutes - 1 hour to sit down and play. However I have now seen the light. I dont plan on sitting down with that little money ever again.

The other day I was playing at absolute. I brought in 50$. Got it up to 300 playing conservativley at 1/2 and even 2/4 tables. It is amazing the kinda cheese people will stick with. I think too many online players are in love with bluffing.

That reminds me of the two worst beats I have had. They both happened in the span of 5 minutes in my first freeroll at pokerstars. The first was when someone went all-in when I had AA. I called and he showed J9 before the flop. He ends up getting the straight on the river and Im left with $200. After I worked my way back up to $500 I get A5. Flop comes A 4 9, or something similiar. Its a rainbow, so no flush is likely. I go all-in and Im called with a J6. He ends up getting a J on 4th and another on the river. I just stare at the screen for about 5 minutes as his three Jacks knock me out of the tournament.

At least it happened in a freeroll, but I dont think I will forget it anytime soon.

Hehe, sweet deal. Twas good talkin with ya FOFC guys on the IM chat last night. I don't think I can do freeroll anymore, cuz it makes me so mad playing against total dumbasses for the first hour or so. Back to my $.02/$.04 tables at pokerstars (follow my progress in the dynasty forum!).

A poker forum would be fine with me, but it wouldn't get the necessary traffic I don't think.

Have any one of you guys asked for your winnings? Do they send you a check in the mail? How long do you have to wait to receive any winnings?

Has anyone had any bad experiences, or ripped off by a false poker site? I am tempted to join PokerStars, but it's located(registered) in another country San Jose, Costa Rica, and I am very weary about sending money to them.

Does anyone on a site thats an actual casino, both online and actual building? If so which one?
