View Full Version : Devil Rays reach .500.

They were 18 games under the break-even mark at one point this year. For those of you playing the home game, no team has recovered from that kind of a start to reach .500 during the same season in 105 years.

Perhaps more importantly, they're only 5 games behind Boston for the wild card.

I don't think they can keep it up, but damn, is it fun to watch in the meantime.

I know someone who lives in Tallahasee but has season tickets for TB.

But to answer your question, you'd be hard-pressed to find a D-Rays fan in Tampa. At least until recently.

Oh joy, another Florida team gets lucky. They show up in droves once it becomes the trendy thing to do.

That is pretty impressive. Say they were .500 at that point, they have played 18 games over .500 since then.

Yeah. They've won something insane like 14 of their last 15, and they're 12-1 in interleague a year after going 3-15. Insane.

Tampa Bay beat the Marlins again today, 6-4, so not only were they the first team in 105 years to rally from 18 games under to the .500 mark, but they're the first team EVER to go from 18 games under at some point during the season to over the .500 mark by even a single game.

I'm now officially rooting for Boston and Tampa Bay to be the AL East's playoff entrants.

I agree with virtually all of the comments that have been made -- including, like SackAttack, rooting for the Rays and Boston to be the AL East's playoff reps (although I know that's not going to happen as neither will catch the hated Yankees).
The Rays streak has been phenomenal. After falling 18 games under .500, the Devil Rays are 26-7, so, even if we set aside the 12 game win streak that contributed to that record, they would be playing .667 baseball. They've now won a record-tying 13 straight interleague games.
Most importantly, they are starting to believe in themselves, which is a major part of the battle. If the Red Sox (my second favoirte team) look in their rear-view mirror, they are going to get one helluva scare.
