Season 2034 of the Real49ersFootball career:

The San Francisco 49ers are coming off back-to-back SuperBowl titles and are riding high with a 5-0 record to begin the next season, aiming at a three-peat.

Then...ouch....our rookie 1st round pick, WR Nathan Grove breaks his leg and is out for the season.

The thing is,

Nathan Grove is not your average rookie 1st round WR...he's a man among boys. Maybe the best rookie WR I have ever had.

All he did in his first 5 career starts was hauled in 42 catches for 651 yards and 3 TDs. With him, my QB Eric Misner was having a season for the ages...downfield passes, 70+ yard Touchdowns..WOW...the amazing weapon.

For the record, in recent seasons and altough the 49ers were winning, my WR were not really off the charts so to speak

In fact, during last year's championship season, none of my receivers toped the 1000 yard mark and the best of them (now retired Bert Sutter), only had 68 catches...

So you can understand my excitement this year, with a rookie WR making big plays after big plays....posting huge numbers right away and definitely making a difference in our passing game.

Now he's badly injured and lost for the year...as a result, our offense sputtered and then lost back-to-back games (both on the road) before winning our very next game at home. San Francisco now sits 6-2 halfway through this 2034 season but I can feel we've lost more than just one wide-receiver: we've lost one heck of a football player. A rookie who, in only 5 games, showed me what talent is all about.

That's nice.

In my FOFC league, my #1 (8th overall) draft choice - my expected star RB - went out in the 2nd game for the whole year with an injury. I didn't even get to enjoy him like you did. :)

I doubt he'll ever be the same.

Is this in FOF 2004 (where there's an "injury prone" rating for each player?) or is this from your FOF 2 career? If the former, this could be worse than the immediate roster concerns.

Quik, it's my FOF2 "Real49ersFootball" career.
However, he's already lost 5-10 points of ratings in every categories...I fear the worst when he comes back next year.

This is a career that I have been running since 1999...5 years, gosh. quite some time already.

34 seasons in 5 years?

You must really like playing slow and taking lots of notes.

well, I do play a couple of seasons (sometimes even 4 in a row), then i turn to my notes, read them carefully, analyse all I can -thus making it a "real" off-season lol. And then I comeback to that career like every 3-4 months and so on...

It's cool, I have a true feeling of "career" with this thing.

If you're interested or want to know more about it, there's a linky to the "real49ersfootball" career down my signature.

I had a LB that I signed as a FA who had only played 2 games the previous season due to injury. His ratings were awful, but I had only signed him because he was a mentor. He rarely even dressed for a game and then the following season his ratings went thru the roof! He's ther only guy I saw that looked finished, then rebounded at a later date.

I had a QB i traded up to draft #4 overall. Over 6 years he had a 100.1 QB rating, and his last 3 seasons were 115, 106 and 110. He had also led me to the Bowl 3 years in a row. He was set to break pretty much every QB career record in this 25 year dynasty and was fun as hell to follow. In his 7th season he went down with a degenerative hip condition(while still rated 96) and retired the next year. Sucked so much :).

I don't call that I good player, I call it a disturbing stat abnormality which no one seems to care about (. : http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/showthread.php?t=27202.

Well whatever, 2 of those 3 seasons were still good enough to qualify as #1 and #2 on the QB rating record list. In the world of FOF he stood apart.

My post wasn't to demean your accomplisments, especially if you were gameplanning for the team, but was to point out the fact that individual QB stats still aren't close to NFL norms. It's not uncommon to find multiple players post stats like you mention every season, when in the NFL it is a very rare occurance.

At least you didn't lose Drew Bledsoe, who somehow I stole as Mr Irrelevant and become one of the top 3 starters in the league, blew out his ACL in the 4th quarter of the divisional playoff game. Bledsoe had led the Giants to a 15-1 regular season record and was named the Player of the Year. After proceeding to the 97 season, Bledsoe dropped from a 77/79 to a 34/34, all after I gave him a huge contract extension. At least I still have Chris Chandler (60/61)

You should see the first rookie class of the CFL. Three players are out for the season, including the first two overall picks...

ouch. sounds like that be a career-ender for the #1 overall pick. before even playing a down.... painful.

ok, for the record and to finish of on my 2034 season (which was completed last night), Eric Misner led the 49ers to a 12-4 record and another NFC West title.

We looked good to make the three-peat a reality.

Misner set league and career highs with 4409 yards and was 2nd in the NFL with 31 TD passes. (he would later be named NFL Offensive Player of the Year and All-League 1st teal Quarterback).

but..(yes, ANOTHER big time injury)...on the final play of the final game of the regular season....QB Eric Misner broke his arm.

of course, out for the Playoffs.

I was forced to start 5th year vet and former 7th round pick Riddick McCormack (who had never started a game before) in our Divisional Playoff game at home against the hated Dallas Cowboys. McCormack was huge early on, throwing 3 TD passes in the first half (!) and building a 24-3 lead. Then, the roof fell down, and McCormack did everything wrong in the 2nd half (this is were experience comes into the equation I guess), this time throwing 3 picks and enabling the Cowboys to comeback in this game...ultimately beating the 49ers 27-24.

Season's over, the two-time defending champs were sent back home.

The most frustrating aspect of that is that the SuperBowl opposed the Carolina Panthers (which we swept in the regular season series) to the Denver Broncos (which we crushed 34-13 during the season). All this because of a broken arm to our most important player, on the final play of the regular season.

Sorry about the injuries, though...
