By the Grace of King Pedro I, Holy Protector of Spain,

The Year of Our Lord, 1157

The Iberian has been conquered, thanks to the efforts of El Cid, and my uncle Lord Velasquez. The Almohad Empire has been crushed, thanks to the combined efforts of the Holy Spanish Empire and the Islamic heathens from Egypt. The traitorous Aragonese have been destroyed, and the purity of True Spain has once again taken control. To the north, our mighty soldiers were dispatched to bring our purity to the barbarians of Ireland, and we have placed a Spanish noble on the throne of the Irish, welcoming them into the Holy Empire.

Our allies are numerous, our enemies are but one. Almost all of Catholic Europe has pledged alliance with Spain, as have the misguided but noble Orthodox Rus, and the barbaric Turks, who for now have their uses. Daring to declare war with us is the Germans, who underservingly refer to themselves as the 'Holy Roman Empire'. Their previous Emperor was banished by the Pope, prompting His Grace, King Pedro I, to lay claim to terrority previously rotting in the hands of the German Emperor.

And this is the status of Holy Spain to date. We now look to the east, as our naval captains give reports of the treacherous filth who hold our Holy Lands, the Egyptians. Soon, we shall liberate the Holy Land from the evil grasp of Islam, and bring the Lord's Faith back to our sacred homes.

The rest of the world...

England: Divided and weak. Their own island is partially in rebellion, and a small province in mainland Europe is all they have to their name.

Denmark: Quietly sitting in Scandanavia, with Denmark and Sweden in their grasp. Norway eludes them. A few ancient longboats out in the sea, but they are a non factor to date.

France: Divided and fractured as well, and mired in a losing war with the Germans. They have some military power left however, and can likely hold out vs the HRE.

HRE: Still with a lot of land, and a pretty decent military. Problem is, they are at war with just about all of Central Europe, and cannot possibly hang on. We've taken the one province we wanted from them, but if they press us, we will take to eradicating them.

Italy: Jury is out on them. Holding their own vs the Germans, but you never know what the deal is with those Italians.

Sicily: Holds southern Italy, and locked in a war with Byzantium. Rough opponent to face, and they are trying to make a landing in Eastern Empire held Greece.

Hungary: I don't have my spies out deep into Eastern/Central Europe yet, so I'm not sure. They don't look like much yet though.

Poland: See Hungary, though I think Poland is in better shape.

Rus/Novogorod: Again, can't be sure yet, but they seem to be sitting tight in their desolate wastes.

Egypt: They own central/eastern africa, all the way up to Modern Day Turkey. Which means they own the Holy Land. Which means they are going to be at odds with Spain very, very soon.

Byzantium: Turkey kicked them out of the Great City of Constantinople, and despite bitter fighting, have been unable to reclaim it. They hold much of the territory around the Black Sea, and have a potent military to boot. Between Turkey and Sicily though, I'm not sure they can hold what they've got.

Turkey: Threw Byzantium out of their lands, pushed east, and claimed the Second City. We remain allied to these infidels, as they are less filthy than the decadent Eastern Empire, and we find it helpful to use them against Egypt if need be.

And that, is that.

If you've gotten this far, this is a Medieval: Total War dynasty. I'm playing a little different from the usual Conquer Everything, however. Instead, I'm playing on Glorious Achievements, which gives you a list of things to accomplish over the decades. Points for conquering provinces is minimal, and I don't like managing that many provinces, instead preferring the subtle manipulations by my special units like Inquisitors and Spies. Basically, I'll be securing what Holy Edict commands me, and proceed to watch events unfold. My goal in this is to finish the game with Catholicism in control of 100% of all provinces on the map, but without ME controlling it. I have my terrority, I will sit and hold no more. I must manipulate the AI to conquer the Heathens, yet make certain that no Catholic nation becomes too powerful (ie - gains too many points on their own Glorious Achievements, or just becomes way too much of a nuisance) to possibly challenge the Holy Spanish Empire.

Updates will likely be long, and over a lot of game time. Not much often happens in a single year (with a few exceptions). It's the slow subtle shift over time I'm working here.

The Year of Our Lord, 1169

Both good news, and disturbing news. First, the good. Our Holy Crusade to Palestine was a stunning success. Holy crusaders from all over Spain rallied to our banners in this fight to cleanse the Holy Land of the foul taint of Islam. Led by Lord Perez, Duke of Portugal, our soldiers landed upon the shores of Tripoli and turned south, causing terrified Egyptians to flee for their lives. The holy land of Palestine fell quickly, thousands of Spanish Crusaders now sit at its walls to preserve the sanctity of our new conquest. Our Holy Bishops are in route now, so that they may re-introduce the wonders of our Lord Jesus Christ to the unwashed masses.

The disturbing news. France, in all their arrogance, laid siege to the Spanish held province of Acquitaine. A completely unprovoked and unexpected attack. Luckily, a quick response by Lord Ferrer, the Lord of Castile and Spain's Lord Chamberlain, caused the province to be freed from French Aggressors with little resistance. We now turn a wary eye to the north, as French soldiers in Brittany remain garrisoned. That puts us into conflict with 2 Catholic leaders. Obviously the Holy Pope made a poor choice in allowing these men their crowns. The Holy Spanish Empire may have to fully interevene to remove the crowns from their severed heads. We shall see.

Elsewhere, the battle for Central Europe is raging. Germany, weakened by internal civil war, and fighting with France, Italy, Hungary, and Poland, are on borrowed time. Likely, the situation will sort itself out, and our forces will not have to march upon German soil. Our Catholic friends shall bring justice to the 'Holy' Roman Empire. Turkey continues to fight the Eastern Empire, and is slowly whittling away at that decadent culture. Not suprisingly, the heretics have broken their alliance with the Spanish Crown, as they are unhappy with our Holy Crusades against their neighbors in heresy, the Egyptians.

let me see what's going on everywhere. Once I do, I'll try and keep anyone bothering to read updated with screenshots as well.

For the record, I've tried to do this type of victory several times (religious dominance), and *almost* succeeded once. It's very, very, *very* hard to do, especially since diplomacy is so limited. You really gotta coax the AI to get their ass in gear and clear out those filthy Islamics.

By the Grace of King Felipe I, Holy Protector of Spain,

The Year of Our Lord, 1180

Our Holy King's father, King Pedro the Conquerer, did not live to see the end of his mighty Crusade. But what Pedro began, his eldest son, King Felipe, finished. The Holy Lands have been returned to the Catholic Church, and in the name of the Pope, the flag of Holy Spain now flies in Antioch, Tripoli, and Palestine. The taint of Islam has been removed from our most Holy of realms, and our King has vowed that no foreign filth shall ever set foot upon our sacred lands ever again. It shall be defended to the last man for all time, in the name of our Lord and Savior, and for the glory of Spain.

Alas, all is not well in the realm. While we have enlightened the East, the West fights itself. The battle for Central Europe rages, while Spain, wisely knowing that fighting amongst ourselves only weakens the cause, has remained steadfast. This is not to say we are without bloodshed. Treacherous France sent 1500 soldiers into Spanish soil. They left with 200. Word has been sent to our generals that there will be no quarter granted to godless men who would dare disturb our sanctity. Had they accepted the terms of peace we offered, perhaps we would have allowed their soldiers to be ransomed. Alas, our olive branch was spat upon, and we returned the heads of 1000 French soldiers to their King as the consequence of his arrogance. We continue to extend our hand of friendship to the German Emperor as well, even though his predecessors have earned only our mailed gauntlet. Alas, every attempt has been rebuked there as well. Wisely, they have not had the audacity to launch an assault into Spain itself for quite some time. If this continues, we shall watch, wait, and deal with them when the time is right.

Outside of the Holy Land, the Eastern lands are also interesting. The heathens fight one another with almost as much furor as our own Catholics fight one another. Turkey has become a legitimate power, and their influence grows, as Byzantium's wanes. Will we see the total destruction of the ancient Eastern Empire? It is perhaps a fitting end that the barbaric Islamics deliver the final blow to the decadent Empire. Egypt remains militarily strong, but they seem content holding on to what we have allowed them. Their remaining lands hold little strategic value to us, but a day will come where we shall cleanse the taint of their unholy filth once and for all. There is only one True Faith, and all men shall bear witness to the Glory of His Lord.

- Lord General Sachmo, Duke of Aragon
A highly skilled general, one of our finest in the field. Our Duke of Aragon is highly noted for keeping in top physical form, and has a commanding presence about him that others are drawn to. He is also a true believer of the faith, his sword drawn by the Grace of God. There are more than a few rumors, however, regarding the Duke's sanity. To put it bluntly, he's a raving lunatic. An incredible general, a true believer, but a madman nonetheless.

While not as talented on an overall level as Duke Sachmo, there is no better general on the offensive as General JeeberD. He is not only brilliant on the field, he is a financial master, and governs our home province of Castile better than almost anyone. This is also a concern for us, as his obvious greed has made us question his morals. There are some in the courts who believe he would sell his own mother if the price was right.

- Lord General Real Deal, Lord of Portugal
A true master in all aspects of life. A religious paragon, a financial master, and an artist when it comes to directing troops on the field. There is no finer noble general than our Lord of Portugal. Just do not piss him off. Bodies of servants who have questioned his orders have been found with frightening regularity, and he is known to lose his legendary temper at the drop of a hat.

If it were not for the fact that he is an expert on the field of battle, Holy Mother Spain would have had this man shipped to the Holy Lands of the East and forgotten him. Another of the Sachmo mold, this man is a complete lunatic. Unlike Duke Sachmo however, the man never, *ever* lies, something that we find most disturbing as this madman represents our interests. A valuable soldier, a quality governor, but for the love of our Lord, keep this honest madman away from the courts.

The Year of Our Lord, 1192

The lull before the storm approaches, our court bards say. While this remains
to be seen, the fact is, all has been eerily quiet in the West. Holy Spain continues our military buildup, after years of wars and crusades. Our enemies are silent for the time being, and our generals are receiving badly needed supplies and fresh troops. Our Expeditionary Legions grow daily. Three of our major generals have received their full legions, and more troops are being trained in the depths of the Iberian every day. Our spy network grows, and agents have been dispatched to the hot spots of the world.

However, our enemies among our so called Catholic 'brothers' do not go unpunished. While full military attacks have not occurred, our infiltrators have sent subtle messages to the Holy Roman Empire and the French. Upon hearing the news that the latest peace treaties we offered were rebuked, our men moved. In the night, in the year 1185, our assassins struck, executing 2 daughters of the French King, and the only daughter of the German Emperor. Let this be a message to all who oppose Holy Spain.

The East is an entirely different story. A chaotic mess, and who comes out on top is a question not even the most educated minds of Holy Spain can answer. Turkey looks strong, and have continued to push Byzantium into Russia. More of the Steppe has fallen to the Turkish advance, although our Rus allies assure us that they will push no further west. Byzantium and Hungary continue their mighty struggle, with the peasantry feeling the pain. Greece and much of the ancient Hungarian provinces are in constant war, control changing hands almost yearly. Not a day goes by where soldiers there fail to expect a siege. We will not set foot in this madness, for there will be
only death to our Holy Troops. As far as our Eastern holdings go, the Holy Land is secure. Over 20,000 brave soldiers have taken garrison in our lands there, all by the Grace of God, and the most holy of Papal blessing. In His Name, we shall guard the Holy Land for all eternity.

The Year of Our Lord, 1216

A new King has arrived, our previous Holy Emperor ruling for nearly a quarter-century of peaceful Spanish rule. Alas, while the world remains relatively quiet, the opening shots of war have come upon some of our Catholic neighbors. Italy and Germany, long opposed to each other, have entered into open warfare. Sadly, it appears our Italian bretheren are not well suited for longevity, as seen by a plague of civil wars. Their holdings are slowly being whittled away. Our thoughts of aiding Italy in their strife was quickly ended, however, when His Holiness, the Pope himself, entered the fray, claiming parts of Italy for His own. As always, we paid homage, and watched the Holy Papal States grow in their own power. France and England remain much the same, however...

...we have begun to Purify them, in the Holy Name of our Lord and Savior. Led by the Holy Reverend Domingo, the Holy Spanish Inquisition has gone forth into the lands of Europe, ensuring that our Catholic bretheren have not been tainted by seeds of evil. What we found was most disturbing. While we know our own Godly generals are above such suspicion, being chosen by God Himself, our fellow Kings obviously have much less restriction on who is to lead their armies. As such, in accordance with God's Law, we took more than a dozen English and French generals to the torch after they confessed their allegiance to the Devil.

The good (and also disturbing) news is, we now know why France has continued to refute our calls for peace. It seems the Devil's seed has infested their King, as evidenced by the two Royal French Princes we were forced to put to the flame. Soon, his line will be pure once again, and perhaps, with his
vision cleared by the Lord, our brother to the north will become a reasonable man. One can only pray.

To the east, more of the same. The same battles between infidel Turkey, decadent Byzantium, and the respected Hungarians continues on, with no winner. Surprisingly, a fourth land has entered the fray, that of the Sicilians. They have established a foothold into Greece, opening yet another front in the lands our people have come to call the Field of Blood. As Holy Spain faces problems closer to home, most notably the taint of the Devil in Central Europe itself, we remain out of this war. Our priests will continue to purify the land of all sworn to Evil, no matter how high. Indeed, those of most repute and prowess in battle are tops on our list of suspects. Have they gained their reputations through talent, or by a vile pact with Lucifer? We shall learn the truth.

The Year of Our Lord, 1241

The world as we knew it has come to a bloody end. From the lands far to the East, a new Pagan threat has emerged. They fancy themselves the Golden Horde, and have shown no mercy in their slaughters. The good news is, they have taken it upon themselves to unleash hell upon the Turkish infidels, who have collapsed into a nearly non factor. As no army without the protection of God can ever be truly victorious, we shall come and destroy them in our own good time. With that in mind, we have already undergone certain preparations. But first, the other major news.

Byzantium, once the shining beacon of Civilization, now a decadent decaying fossil, has fallen. The Eastern Emperor dead, all heirs scattered, the great Roman Empires are now but a memory. Sicily, Poland, and Hungary have snapped up their former provinces with zeal, bringing them them the one true God. Spain is pleased, as is his eminence, the Pope.

To the desert lands of Africa, our allies in England, purified by our Holy Inquisitors, have finally once again gazed upon the Grace of God, and brought war to the heathen Egyptians. Much of Africa has bowed down to English rule, and a great Crusade to Lesser Armenia has quelled the godless wretches there as well. The Mongol Hordes loom near the Holy Lands, however, and our own Lord General JeeberD has been dispatched as a precautionary measure, should they dare attempt to set foot on the Lands of God. Our emmissaries have sent word to the great English King, that should the heathens attack Armenia, our soldiers will send aid as well. General Jeeber has been charged with defending the faith in the East. He shall not fail.

As to our preparations. The Horde moves west, despite attempts to stop them from our lesser neighbors. With the fall of Byzantium, Spain, in her most Holy Wisdom, and with the blessings of the Pope, has called a Holy Crusade to lay claim to the Second City, Constantinople. Led by Lord General Sachmo, our troops, filled with the grace of God, have begun to march. Soon, we will rid Constantinople of the stink of Islam, and bring the purity of Jesus to her walls. However, while this is indeed a Holy Endeavor, it serves a military purpose as well. Should the Mongols push further into Europe, Constantinople will no longer be threatened. We will plant the flag of Holy Spain on her walls, and make our stand there. No pagan filth will pass. Ever.

Our Holy task of purifying the French has gone well. The French King and his Satanic Seed have been purified, and we now wait for the King to die of natural causes, and watch his Empire of Evil fall to its knees. As the Pope has ordered us to not question the King directly, we have merely cut off any attempts for his vile children to continue the tainted line. All heirs are brought to us to be tested, and to date, none have been found pure of the taint of Lucifer. In our wisdom, we will let this unholy empire die, and let other, more worthy Christian souls bring their provinces back into the light of God.

We have lived with each other in relative peace for decades. Despite our differences, we still worship the same God. Under His watchful eye, we are all equal.

But now there is a new threat, one who would tear all we have accomplished apart. The banner of the dread Khanate can fly in Europe no longer. Holy Mother Spain has watched her friends further East fall back under the heathen advance time and time again. We shall watch no longer. As of today, with the blessings of the Holy Church, I am declaring war upon the so-called Golden Horde. The shining beacon of hope in the west, the most Holy Spanish Empire, shall put a stop to these pagan wretches.

Our Lord Generals Real Deal, JeeberD, and MrBug will set sail for the east, with 5,000 of Spain's finest soldiers at their command. The line will be drawn, the Forces of God shall no longer permit filth at the doorsteps of Europe. May God go with us all.

Our forces have fought a major battle in Kiev. The Horde's attempt to reclaim the province failed. Lord MrBug reports 1800 Mongols dead, 300 captured and summarily executed. Our losses number under 200.

We also have reports that Lord RealDeal's assault east of Kiev has begun, and the province of ICan'tRememberTheNameExactly is now under siege.

Lord Sachmo has been dispatched in place of the depleted Lord RealDeal. Lord MrBug and Jeeber report their combined assault on Poland was a resounding success, and have commenced assaults on smaller Mongol outposts further east.

Our spies in Poland report that Catholic rebels have taken up arms against the remainder of Mongol forces, and now control the province. Advance command in Kiev has no news at the time, other than our continued success in this Holy Campaign.

The Year of Our Lord, 1312

The 50 year long war between the East and West has ended. The so-called Golden Horde is a shadow of its former self, beaten back by the Holy Armies of Spain. It's holdings are under constant rebellion, thanks to our well trained spies, and our Priests report their missionaries have almsot fully converted the heathen peasants living in those desolate Steppes.

Holy Mother Spain has held strong, as was always known. Our Lord knows His own, and protects us. Our masterful generals have returned home as heroes, with all the titles and honors Holy Spain could bestow upon their heads. They will forever be heralded as the conquerers of a Pagan land, and the protectors of the Catholic Faith. Without them, many feared the Mongol Hordes would have swept across the whole of Europe.

But it would not happen on our watch.

Now we rest, our Generals tending to their estates, while the world acts. We are pleased to report the Catholic nations of Europe have almost entirely put aside their petty differences, and face East, to gaze upon the unholy Islamic and Pagan religions. In particular, our most loyal ally England, has taken much of the formerly Islamic land, and brought the wisdom of The Holy Church to its lands. Ever vigilant for corruption, however, is Holy Spain, and with the thousands upon thousands of soldiers dwelling so near our lands, we shall remain cautious. Lucifer has worked his evil on English Royalty before, we will not let the Dark One do it again.

It is with some displeasure we note that decadent Byzantium was not totally eradicated. Like a filthy rat, they were in hiding, and have returned, though they are but a speck in a Catholic dominated world. Let them gaze upon the world we have created, without the corruption that was the Eastern Empire. Let it be the last thing they ever gaze upon, as soon we will crush these upstarts just as their predecessors fell.

The once mighty Turks, battered by the Mongols, have been ruthlessly smashed by our English friends. A Holy Crusade brought them to their knees, and their only refuge has been in a small province east of Constantinople. When the time is right, we shall send one of our Holy Generals to oversee his execution (whoever reads this and volunteers first gets to go behead the Turkish King! - If you ain't a general, you will be when you
call it in, so all are welcome).

We continue to wonder just what the Sicilians are planning. Their sheer number of soldiers worries the Church, and the King. While we have always been on good terms with our Catholic neighbors, they seem bent on conquering, and their unsupported war against Poland is highly disconcerting. Their naval power is nothing to scoff at either. We watch, we wait. If need be, they too will be tested by our Inquisition, to insure the wiles of Lucifer have not infected this proud nation.

Viva Espana.
