Just wanted to take a moment to pimp one of the best indy music internet stores on the planet. This place has an amazing selection, low prices, great service...and a terrific sense of humor. I mean, how can you NOT love a company who's order shipment email reads like this:

Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with
sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.

A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure
it was in the best possible condition before mailing.

Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over
the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money
can buy.

We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party
marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of
Portland waved 'Bon Voyage!' to your package, on its way to you, in
our private CD Baby jet on this day, Wednesday, July 21st.

I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did.
Your picture is on our wall as 'Customer of the Year'. We're all
exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!

Thank you once again,

Derek Sivers, president, CD Baby
the little CD store with the best new independent music
phone: 1-800-448-6369 email: [email protected]

Check them out. This a great place to pick a genre and "taste test" the samples of bands you've probably never heard of, and 90% of whom who won't find on the shelves at Best Buy.

CdBaby is great. And they do a great job with my new favorite label, Megalith Records.

I like this company a lot. I have a few buddies who are in a band and use Cdbaby to sell their CDs. They have nothing but good things to say about the company.

Wow, I am impressed. To test it out I did a search for my buddies band(OnceOver, cheap plug) and they have it in stock.

Anyway, thats for the link. It is now bookmarked.

Thier punk sectoin is seriously lacking. I checked it out and I dont even recognize names of any of the bands. The only thing they had was the Bad Brains roir session on cd. They might be better with other genres though. I can find better stuff for punk on Amazon(which is pretty sad). I really like gemm.com has anyone on here used them. Its just a website that has listings for a whole bunch of record store that you can order online from. I use it mainly to find out of print cds and vinyl records. Some stuff I have scored from using Gemm:

The Faith "Subject to Change" 12" ep on pink vinyl - $2 from some chrstian music store can sell for 20-25 dollars . Obviously they just thought it was christian music by its name but its not.

Confront and Release on lost & found records cds around 8 bucks including shipping both are out of print and i sold them for around $50 each.

A record distributer about 40 minutes from my house had a bunch of Bl'ast! lps from when wishingwell records was distributied by greenworld(they went bankrupt shortly after working with wishingwell only 1000 copies exist of this version). I bought 20-some copies off of the guy who ran it for $20 and sold them slowly on ebay for 20 - 25 dollars each and kept a copy for myself. I would have never found the guy if he didnt have a listing in Gemm.

I havent used it in a couple years though, I stilll get emails though about finding records on my search list. Altough they are mostly of cd versions of music that I am looking for the vinyl of.

Well, that's kinda the point, they cater to indy/up-and-coming artists. You probably won't find many of the Warped Tour bands selling through an indy distributor.

No you missed my point. I never said I was looking for warped tour bands. But obviously you can find warped tour bands in their catalog, or bands that probably belong on the warped tour. Sublime, never heard of that up-and-coming band. Lets see, every other page has a band listed as it sounding like a band that has played the warped tour. Get a clue.

Either a CD Store has what you want or they don't. Get the fuck over it.

No all I did was say that thier punk selection was lacking. As a heads up to people who might of been looking for something. Would you tell your friend that cd store wasnt going to have something he was looking for, if he planned on going there? I even suggested another site and was wondering if anyone checked it out before.

My response was based on your comment that you "don't even recognize names of any of the bands." That was the "clue" I got - from you. These are, for the most part, bands very few people have heard of. That's what I thought you were referring to by "seriously lacking." If you are looking for the top 40 punk bands, chances are you aren't going to find them.

Now, whether they have a decent punk catalog at all, I don't know. But that's not what you said. Name recognition is a different issue.

I think they should update the message though. That's the same message they have sent out for like 4 years... ;)

Just one more positive thing to say about CD Baby. My buddy tells me that of the internet stores that sell their CD(amazon, cd baby, a few others), they get the biggest cut from CD Baby.

It seems to be one of the better sites to buy a CD if you want to support your favorite band.
