Speech-writers wish Mr Bush would stick to the script
In his latest gaffe, President George W Bush has appeared to suggest that his administration is forever thinking up ways of harming the US and its people.
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful - and so are we," the US president told a high-level meeting of Pentagon officials.

"They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people - and neither do we."

There's a certain Senator (now, not then) I used to work for - who shall remain nameless - who had the same "short leash/ stay on script" mandate from his handlers that Bush either has or should have.

I remember attending a press conference and standing at the back of the room next to one of his advisors. At one point, he went off script, and the guy was doing the "cut it off" hand motion at his throat, and, as the speech started to get incoherent, was whispering to the guy next to him, "He's off script! He's off script! Let's wind it up!"

Funny stuff.

Yeah, but this is the sort of thing that really deserves its own thread. That other thread was started by Bush himself and it's burried 3/4 of the page down! Typical!!

A *Gaffe* ?

Wow, in President Elect 1988 on my Apple, that would cost him a few points in the polls ;)

I guess he subscribes to the old theory of "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!"

Yeah, I just figured andym should get his due credit since a lot of people probably have him on ignore. :D

Ah great stuff, Bush isn't dumb, but he's a horrible speaker. But hey, more people are scared of public speaking than death. As seinfeld used to say "so if one of these guys was at a funeral, he would rather be in the cofin than doing the eulogy"
