View Full Version : So Who's NOT Watching Football Tonight?

I know, I know, it's just the first preseason game and no one worth watching will play more than a few snaps, if any at all. And, contrary to the front page on ESPN.com, I don't think either team is out to prove in this game that they won the Portis/Bailey trade.
Still, it's football, right?
We did this last year too. I can't get up for a preseason game anywhere near where I do for Game 1 of the regular season.
But like you said, it's football. I'll be watching.

Some casual watching. I get pumped for the first real game tough.

It's preseason, which I often find boring. But, it is NFL football, and it will give me a taste. Plus, it is the first time I will be seeing an NFL game in HD. I am more than curious.

Finally, it's here.
I've been waiting all summer for this colossal Gibran Hamden/Bradlee Van Pelt quarterback duel.

The awesome thing is, the game ends at the exact same time that Wrestling comes on.
It's all about the game, and how you play it...

I intend to make sure my HDTV setup is really getting the game in HDTV. I figure I've got 5 weeks to work out the kinks on my end and send bug reports to the local stations before the real thing begins ;-)

I love to watch football, but can't stand to watch pre-season. I'll wait til they count before tuning in.

I'm not. It's just the NFL.

I hate pre-season football - boring!
That's interesting. If I recall correctly, many more people last year were looking forward to the first taste of football, preseason and all, than they are this year. Or maybe it's just different people posting this year. :)

If I like the game/league, I'll put pretty much anything on, even if it's just in the background. I won't really "watch" this entire game, but it'll definitely be on.

I like preseason football. Not as much as the real thing obviously, but as someone who also enjoys college football its interesting to watch the young guys who may be tomorrow's stars and players that I remember from college that have never been able to crack starting lineups.
Tonight I will be watching Matt Mauck, who teams passed on until Denver picked him up in the 7th(probably because he was somewhat of an older prospect). Denver observers are already saying he looks like a solid #2 for the Broncos, and he should win that backup job, so I will be anxious to see how he does tonight.

I've been trying to find confirmation this morning that the game will be in HD. How do you guys know it will be? I've looked over the ABC website and they don't mention. I'm just wondering. :)

I'll be watching. Its football. Sure, it doesnt count. But I like to see who impresses, the rookie picks (guys who might not get alot of action in the regular season) and that. Also, any truth to rumors of the NFL expanding to 18 games and cutting back pre-season to 2 games?

I got my info from this thread:

The HD programming forum on avsforum, as well as titantv, is where I get most of my information on whether something will be in HD or not. The avsforum folks are obsessive, so they usually get it right.

ABC - 8 Eastern.... Broncos vs Redskins.
edit - And i'll be watching, just to see how Gibbs does in literally his first game back, even though only pre season.

Hell yes I'll be watching. I've been thirsting for months as I crawled through the deserts that are basketball and baseball seasons. I need a taste. Just one litte taste. God Bless us one and all, football's back.

I'll watch the first quarter, or whenever the starters go out. I don't care about the third or 2nd stringers.

Broncos will play their starters approx. 10-12 plays tonight.
And yes. . . I'm really looking forward to some football.
It will be on in the background. Casually watch it while I play CoH.

I'll hopefully be at OU practice today, the first one of the year so I can see Adrian Peterson, the new freshman that everybody can't wait to see in an OU uniform.

I'll watch part of it as it will be the first football game I'll get to see in HD. However, I'm in Hawaii and it'll be tape delayed and is there anything less exciting than tape delayed preseason football?

I'll be watching. I've been going through some serious NFL withdraw this off season. I don't care if 3 quarters is the 3rd teams vs. each other. I DON'T CARE! I NEED FOOTBALL!!

Nice opening scene for the game. I'm holding off playing Madden cause I don't want to miss the first few series. I want to see what Portis does against the Broncos.

Made some better throws the second drive. Watts has been the talk of training camp. Looks like a rookie, great catch, horrible drop.
Sykes and Pryce already down with injuries. That's not good at all.

Well, it took a whopping 14 minutes, but Madden finally showed his idiocy.
Quote after a Broncos 5 yard hitch route is complete:
"See, that's the thing about these new rules. You can't touch the guy within five yards, you have to stand back and you just can't do anything to prevent it."
Ummm, John, you can cold cock a guy within five yards. It's after five yards where you can't touch him. The Redskins had the right play call on, the WR just held onto the ball after a nasty hit. It's that simple.
