Puerto Rico is crushing the states....
After the 1st half, its 49-27 Puerto Rico

The Puerto Ricans arent even playing their best game...Their playing well, but not out of this world. The Americans are just horrible....I dont know why the just dont post Duncan Up...

Because the guards are too selfish to constantly feed it into Duncan?

When I saw it I thought "pffft it'd be funny to put USA Basketball" in that thread, til I saw that's what it was about from the start :)

Really? This isn't a dream USA team for the rest of the world (because they suck)?

No, you guys are missing it. It's "Dream Dunkers", not Dream Team.

The rumor is that the USOC thought all games were decided by a final dunking contest, not actually playing basketball. Simple mistake, could be made by anyone.

Bah, it's just international play, we don't need good players, we'll just send 30 dunk-meisters who can't play defense, that's a sure way to win!

it's the "NBA Advertisement of the next generation of Dunking, Dazzling, Fundamentally Unsound Players Team"... BOOYAH!

Yeah, this is working out as a great advertisement for the NBA, isn't it? All the solid NBA players playing for other countries are starring against our second-string All-Stars (since most of the first-string All-Stars decided to stay home).

There's a reason why NBA teams averaged 100+ points a game back in the 80's and 90's. No matter if we sent our "best" this year, we still would have lost because we don't know how to play team basketball anymore. Back in the Bird/Magic days, the "best" would shoot 50% by finding open players and running plays to get open. Teams shooting 40% like the US team this year will definitely lose all the time. Sometimes I wonder if the US team even knows how to run offensive plays....

Defensively, the US plays individual defense just like they play individual offense. They think they can defend anyone one on one and get beat consistently. Time after time, they get beat on the dribble. Time after time, they try to block everything instead of stepping up and taking a charge.

I wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. doesn't even get a medal.

"They play the game the way it's supposed to be played," Iverson said. "It's not about athletics. That's the game the way Karl Malone and John Stockton play it. It's good for kids to see how the game is supposed to be played."

Good thing Iverson already knows how to play the game the way it's supposed to be...

Is it wrong that I'm rooting against my country?

Dutch

I'm rooting against them because if they win they get to say, "See, I told you this was real basketball."

I don't want them to say that.

They finished 6th in last year's World Championship. After seeing them lose vs Puerto Rico (are you kidding me here ?!), they might even not get out of Round 1. Not much surprise here to real basket-ball fans.

Really? This isn't a dream USA team for the rest of the world (because they suck)?Well, you would expect Shaq, Kobe, Garnett, T-Mac to be on a USA dream team. A team full of Odoms isn't very "exciting". Apart from Iverson and Duncan, there are not many superstars here.
