I have both games but haven't played OOTP 6 since Puresim was released.I really prefer the game play and presentation of puresim.OOTP 6 is a greta game but often felt more like work than a game.I am sure those who really, really like to dig into stats will love OOTP 6.It may, as mentioned on this board previously, be better at accurately recreating Major League Baseball .However, puresim 2004 is agreta game for a start-up totally fictional league. My question is for those who have played both games.Which do you think has the stronger AI for solo play?I am especially interested in the in-game management as well as free agency signings and player management such as releasing players and tradingof players.

I have been playing OOTP since V2 and I bought PureSim about 6 weeks ago.
I still haven't figured out that the term "AI" stands for when it comes to OOTP. I only play in online leagues because the game is useless (for me) in solo mode. If you enjoy winning every season then OOTP is for you.
I agree with you that PureSim is a much more beautiful game. I find that the interface and the flow of it make me overlook some of the AI flaws. My gut feeling is the PureSim AI is better (because I can't believe that anything could be worse than ootp).
Let me put it this way. I have played more PureSim solo in 6 weeks than I have played OOTP solo in 3 years.

I have tweaked some of puresim's XML file and it has improved the game play and AI some what.Though it is pretty good I think to start with. Plus Shaun Sullivan ,Puresims cretaor is still adding tweaks and improvements.Great support.

I'm surprised more folks have not replied so I will, I've played both games for years and I enjoy OOTP over PS though both are good games. Neither is perfect in it's AI, I've seen both games have issues w/ PH'ing for the pitcher. I enjoy the customization of OOTP and feel more comfortable with it, I feel that it is also a deeper game. I play PS more for a change of pace from time to time.
Support for both is excellent.
I'm challenged by both so for me it just comes down to preference. Plus OOTP can be played in online leagues as well.

Even with v6? Wow, I absolutely love ootp v6.. by far the most challenging game of the series.. and it should be, I guess.
I can't get into Puresim, tried, but I think ootp is beautiful with stadiums, logos, etc..

Puresim 1.5 is due soon, which is really just an updated AI. I haven't been testing the builds, but it's been about 4 weeks of testing and it's still a few weeks away.

I am pretty much an online player only most of the time and OOTP 6 covers that very well. from the demo of puresim, I much prefer the interface of OOTP, but this is something that is very subjective.

What I really like about OOTP is that you can hide all the ratings. Has Shaun talked about doing this? With the ratings hidden, OOTP seems to give me a decent challenge. I'm thinking of buying Puresim, but I couldn't get into the beta because of the spare PBP...perhaps I just have to give it more time.

Grrrrrrr. I *really* like a lot of things about Puresim, but there's one thing that is just about a deal-breaker for me: pitching rotations. #5 starters are getting 32 starts per season. I know there are some files that can be tweaked, but I've never looked at them. Is there a way to get it to use a realistic rotation, accounting for off days?

SkyDog, have you posted that concern to Shaun? He's always looking to make tweaks to the game and if he can't get it into this code, maybe he will put it on the list for the next...
I like each game equally. OOTP is great for historical replays and online leagues. I like to play PureSim, though. For me, it's more enjoyable to play. As others have said, each game has flaws in the AI, but I've seen more action towards resolving those issues from Shaun than Markus over the last few of months. For now, that means Puresim gets played.

I haven't. I wanted to know if it was easily user-tweakable before I went to him.
I *REALLY* like the stats tracking, PSPN, and almanac in Puresim.

I haven't dug into the xml, so I'm not sure. I'm sure that one of the guys over at the Puresim boards who have dug into it would know, though.
PSPN has really improved a lot since its first appearance. I also like the way the games are played out and the way you can have the path of the ball tracked, then the track turns red for an out or blue for a hit.
The user-created add-in support is a nice feature as well. Wonder if we can get Cato to make Catobase for it...

Skydog sent me an email and I figured my replay might be useful to post here:
Make sure you download the latest 1.5 release. It adds a TON of stuff, over 100 new features and tweaks. A list of all the new stuff can be viewed here. (http://www.puresim.com/readme.html)
The 1.5 final release can be downloaded here (http://www.puresim.com/ps2k4_v15_final.zip)
Regarding the 5th starter, open up his player card and then click "Player Usage" from that screen use the "Starting Pitcher Options" in order to tweak his usage patterns.
1.5 also adds the ability to import schedules from http://www.retrosheet.org, as well as the ability to import all those OOTP schedule mods out there. Those schedules really improve the game significantly and the retrosheet ones can be fun for replaying MLB seasons exactly if that is your cup of tea.

Will the AI do this automatically each season?

I know that v6 is such a perceived mess that the 36-team <a href="http://www.thefobl.com">FOBL</a> is leaning strongly towards not upgrading as a league. That just applies to MP, however...your needs may vary...

I'd agree that the upgrade from 5-6 was much better for solo players and wasn't as big a deal for MP.

You could always just download the demo and try yourself....
They really are different games, and I personally enjoy both of them very much.

Very nice SD. Once I'm back in baseball mode, I think it's time to purchase this one. I still enjoy ootp though and Markus is getting out one more patch from what I've read.

it sure seems like the patches for puresim comes out way faster than ootp patches.. and puresim fixes, tweaks and add new features more than ootp

Puresim has a much smaller community and because of that there is a much better chance that your suggestion gets into the game quickly.

I was going to say the same thing. OOTP has been around for quite some time and the fan base is much, much, bigger. Ask EA to release more than one patch and you're pushing it.

I've been playing Puresim for about two months now, and I can say that version 1.5 is a serious AI upgrade. Good players NEVER go unsigned, and there is competition for middling players. I need to start a new league to test some other issues, like teams sticking with washed-up veterans for too long. I haven't played OOTP outside of the demo, so I can't compare fairly in that regard. As far as Puresim goes, though, I'm impressed with how much the AI has improved even since 1.3. It's not just an AI 'tweak,' it's a whole new game, imho.

I agree . If you played an earlier version of it you owe yourself to recheck it out.

One thing I give a lot of credit to Shaun is - he'll put something in and if it stinks he'll take it back out. Over the versions things like team chemistry have come and gone.
