To prove that 100 Million Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong, the boys from Jersey are releasing a five-disc box set called exactly that on November 16. Few details have been released, but fans can start getting psyched about three discs of previously unreleased songs, one disc of rarities and a DVD with behind-the-scenes footage. Fans can make their mark on this retrospective by e-mailing
[email protected] with anecdotes and personal essays for a chance to have their words included in the set's booklet. ...

Well, long ago, I was one of those 100 million...and I was wrong. I admit it. :D

Are you embarrassed about it for some reason? They were one of the few good bands from the 1980s. Although limited, they were very good.

he did have great hair, I'll give him that.
I like to make fun of Bon Jovi for their image-heavy approach to music, but the truth is they have some good songs. Slippery When Wet is a terrific hair metal album...one of the better ones of all time. "In and Out of Love" and "Runaway" are two of my favorite Bon Jovi songs.
also worth noting that "(I Don't Wanna Fall) To the Fire" from 7800 Farenheit may be one of the silliest hair metal songs of all time.

Yes, I am embarrassed about most of the music I listened to before college. There are, at most, 2 or 3 of those hair band-type artists that I still like from that period. Otherwise, I sold/gave away my hair band collection by 1991 or so. IMO, most of it fails to stand the test of time - it sounds badly outdated now, and really, 10 years ago, even. Combined with the subject matter of the music, I just can't enjoy it anymore.
As for Bon Jovi, I really like them up until Spippery When Wet, but I absolutely hated Livin On a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive, and that was the last album of theirs I owned.

80's hair bands are still my favorite, and I still have no issues listening to most of it. Bon Jovi was nearing the "almost too cheesy even for me" line. Most other 2nd gen hair bands like Warrant, Slaughter and Poison definitely crossed that line for me. But the earlier stuff...Ratt, Crue, Dokken, Scorpions, Def Leppard - I can listen to that stuff all day.

LOL. OK, well let me put it this way - I haven't willingly played their music for my enjoyment in a number of years.
My wife doesn't like the hair bands stuff, but she's majorly into the early 80's rock - Journey, REO, Styx, Kansas, Night Ranger, Foreigner, etc. I took her to see Journey Saturday night - a band I wouldn't listen to anymore if not for her. Good show, great singer who replaced Steve Perry, worth the money for a quick trip down memory lane...but my wife is already back to listening to their greatest hits album, and it's only Tuesday. Me - that was enough to tide me over until after Neal Schon has his first hip replacement surgery.

I saw a picture of Jani Lane...I can't find it now, but I don't even know how to describe it. Basically - take Jani Lane from 1989, and cross him with a pufferfish, fully puffed out. And then, add a little more air. He looked like the living definition of balloon.

No, I thinnk it's just me. :) I lived in Georgia at the time, and there were enough hicks who identified with that image that it didn't hurt. Obviously, it was a huge song, and that was a huge album. I just think it is hokey. I see no difference between that and the "warriors and elves" crap that Dio puts out.

"warriors and elves" hmmm.... don't know that one.
But you have to remember that I come out of the symphonic rock era (among other things) of the 70s and high fantasy concept albums were really, really cool. I'm talking about Rick Wakeman and others I can't think of right now.
About Jovi, I spent a lot of time in New Mexico and it ain't nothing like Southern hickness. It's too bad that you associated what hokey Southerners did, as oppose to the real landscape and feeling of the Southwest deserts and spaces.

I know exactly what you are talking about, and that's pretty much where I got off the ride as well. I liked "Wanted Dead or Alive" (and "Livin' on a Prayer" for that matter), but he really put on the full-court press on the Cowboy thing for Blaze of Glory and just seemed so insincere it was painful.

It maybe insincere, but to me, Jon Bon Jovi as a cowboy is more believable then Britney Spears being a Virgin, or Avril Lavigne being a punk, or any of the pop crap thats out there today.....
I admit, i like Bon Jovi....I like there stuff alot more then the stuff out there now.....I think their songs are catchy, and their best of the whole 80's hair metal genre....Hell, there still around and doing well.....
Speaking of 80's hair metal...I saw a 1 hour show about Poison on MMM....I like 3 or 4 of their songs, but damn, their video's make me laugh....Their so stupid
