Anyone with news on this? Just saw a breaking news report on CBS saying he was taking tests now and having or had the surgery.

hasn't had it yet, but is reportedly going to (not necessarily today, according to CNN)

Drudge's headline says he had a heart attack. I hope he's going to be alright.

NYTimes has a headline banner saying that as well.

Although I don't care for his politics, I hope he pulls through okay.

That said...is anybody really surprised? Dude never met a cheeseburger he didn't like.

If he survived the heart attack, he should be ok. Hopefully they can do the non-invasive version of the bypass. My mother had it done (the invasive version), and it was downright horrible. That was years ago, and I know the procedure is quite successful.

Again, I don't agree with his politics, but I'll be praying for him.

My father had bypass surgery four years ago. He's done well since, but it does take a long time to heal from it.

I'll say a prayer for the man as well.

As an aside, I find it really interesting that a couple of people (not jumping on them in particular as I've heard this two other times in my conversations in the last hour) felt it necessary to point out that they don't agree with Clinton's politics in a thread about his health.

"don't agree with his politics" was a mild way of putting it for me, but given the circumstances, I felt it was the most circumspect way to get the point across, that no, I don't like the dude, but that doesn't mean I want him to croak. Wouldn't wish that on anybody.

Let's face it - America is very partisan today. I guess I just wanted to differentiate myself from the jackasses on both sides that would want Politician So-and-so to have something bad happen to him/her solely because of their party affiliation. It's disgusting, but there are obviously people out there who feel this way.

I'm not bashing you in particular. I just find it interesting because I think it shows how incredibly emotional people have become in politics, so much so that one has to mention that even though they don't like a guy's politics, they don't wish him physical harm. This is necessary obviously because of how many times people do wish physical harm to politicians. :D

We posted at about the same time. That's exactly what I was thinking.

I know that. I just wanted to point out my reasoning, since I may not be alone in feeling that way.

Nay, nay, just combatting the Democratic assertion that Republicans are heartless bastards who want old fogies to die. :D Kidding, obviously.

I don't think I've ever wished physical harm on a politician, other than maybe a severe thump upside the head followed by a "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!" That's all, honest. No, really. I mean it.

here's hoping everything goes all right. Quadruple bypass is nothing to be taken lightly.

:D Well, if you really, really do mean it, then... you're probably a little better than me. I've wished it many times, probably not seriously but at the time, it sure felt like it. :)

No, actually, I was thinking of the movie Bob Roberts.

Four years from now, Clinton will be tapping his toe to Fleetwood Mac while his wife gets nominated.

Nominated for what? The Advocate magazine's lesbian of the year?

my father died 4 days after a successful quadruple bypass, so yeah, it's not always a walk in the park.
the surgery part was fine (or so we thought) - the next 2 days, he was recovering terrificly, and was making plans to go home. then, sometime on the third day a blood clot got loose and went into his brain, causing a stroke. he never recovered.

I too wish the man well and a speedy recovery....we former Arkansans (or as my friends preferred, Arkansawyers) need to stick together, after all. :D *wonders if Lou Holtz will show up for our monthly meeting*

Ain't that the truth. Bad news in threes of a different sort, I suppose.

According to the Special Report I saw at lunch, he was given a physical every year, and was always said to be in excellent health. He went on the South Beach Diet (?) and now he gets a heart attack. Coincidence...probably, but you never know.

I'd just like to say I'm pleasantly surprised to see that nobody said this made them happy. Maybe there is hope for FOFC and politics yet. :)

I remember reading something that his family had a history of heart disease. Didn't his father die young from a heart problem? Unfortunately I can't remember where I saw that...

No, his father died in a car accident before he was born. (EDIT: nm, his step father is still alive.)

To say I don't like Clinton's policies and personal conduct is an understatement. But I do hope he does alright. One Presidential Funeral this year was enough.

actually, he DID make this joke on the Larry King show (he said the Rebublicans weren't the only ones looking for 4 more years).

did I hear something about him being a smoker?

Draft Dodger, you're confusing him and Jed Bartlet. (From the West Wing.) Seriously though, other than the occasional cigar (*rimshot), I'm 99% sure he's not a smoker.
